could afford all this. Turns out, that AV equipment is all included in that space; it’s unheard-of for a room that size. “You know, you should talk to your boss about having your Christmas party at COSI. I checked online, and it looks like they can accommodate parties as large as 6,500—your office won’t be a problem at all. I also peeked at their evening event menu, and it looks delicious. You could do boozy root beer floats in the Progress exhibit’s 1962 diner! And can you imagine Bill riding the high-wire unicycle above the whole company? Now there’s a work party you won’t have to drag me to!” PHOTOS: COURTESY COSI
oney, remember how I was dreading that conference today? I could not have been more wrong about it! When my boss told me it was at COSI, I didn’t really think much of it—I knew they had meeting rooms and all that, so I figured I was in for another boring ballroom presentation. Maybe a breakout or two with some sandwiches on a tray. I figured it would be tolerable at best … but I’ve never been so pleased to be wrong. “The conference started, like they always do, with a presentation. Except this one was in COSI’s Planetarium, and it was beautiful! I’m talking custom light shows, the works. COSI must have a really fantastic, creative planning staff, because I know no one on our team could have come up with ideas like I saw today. I mean, I watched rats playing basketball during the morning break! How cool is that? “We did team-building activities after the furry sports break, which I usually don’t enjoy, but here it was so different! It was all about unleashing our creativity, and I even programmed a robot to pick up a little box. There I was, the woman who needed help setting up her own voicemail, writing code. And that was all before lunch! “The food was delicious, too! We had a full, barbecue buffet prepared by their on-site executive chef. The brisket was to die for, and I couldn’t get enough of the cornbread, either. We ate in a room back by the American Museum of Natural History Dinosaur Gallery; it had the most gorgeous, uninterrupted view of the Downtown skyline and the Scioto River. “After lunch, we headed to one of the flex spaces for another presentation. The audio-visual capabilities of that room were so incredible—flawless, crystal-clear sound, great video quality, uplighting, you name it. Most of the time we only shell out for a teensy projector and the worst excuse for a sound system you’ve ever heard. I asked Mike, in accounting, about how our office
