Sharmanka Digital Magazine Client Background Sharmanka (Russian for hurdy-gurdy) is a theatre of kinetic sculptures by Edward Bersudsky, founded in St.Petersberg (Russia) in 1989. Audiences in many countries have been fascinated by its magic, and based in Glasgow since 1996 it has gained a reputation as one of the city’s hidden treasures. The hundreds of carved figures and pieces of scrap metal perform an incredible choreography to haunting music and synchronized light, telling the funny and tragic stories of the human spirit as it struggles against the relentless circles of life and death.

Brief To promote the theatre a Print Magazine will be produced titled “Monologues from the mouth of the Creatures”. The production will involve a collaboration project with HNC Creative Printmaking, HNC Professional Writing Skills, HN Photography, HN Digital Media for Design and Print and NC Creative Crafts course. You have been invited to take part in this project. This will allow you the opportunity to unleash your own creative potential with the experience of working to the confines of a live brief. The client would like the magazine illustrated with drawings (supplied), photographs and descriptive text. The client needs you to produce a double-page spread based on ONE sculpture or artwork, containing at least 4 images/illustrations. You should maintain a three-column grid for each page of your double page spread.

Technical Specification: A4, 3 column, 5mm gutter, 3mm bleed, CMYK, Margins: Inside 10mm, Outside 15mm, Top 32mm, Bottom 18mm. Magazine master pages, colour pallete, library items and style sheets will be supplied.
