WELCOME
I am delighted that you’re interested in joining Comberton Sixth Form (CSF).
CSF is a high performing, firmly established sixth form with a strong track record of both academic excellence and student progress.
With around 500 students from in excess of 25 schools, both national and international, the sixth form has a vibrant atmosphere with a wealth of opportunities, while at the same time being small enough to ensure our students are all known and treated as individuals. We can help you achieve the highest possible academic outcomes through a combination of outstanding teaching and the close support needed to thrive in a more independent environment.
At CSF we want to give you:
• Support so that you can succeed (in both your post-16 education and your future)
• Inspiration to grow (as an individual and academically)
• Freedom to thrive (as you take your next steps in education)
If you would like to join us, or find out more, please read on, see our website, and come to our open evening.
DAVID CLARKE, DIRECTOR OF SIXTH FORM
Welcome to CSF! As Head of Sixth Form, my role is focussed on the student experience and providing the support needed for our students to thrive.
Our students follow individualised study programmes that aim to ensure academic stretch and challenge alongside the development of the key skills vital for your success and next steps in education, employment or further training. On average, 85% of our students will leave Comberton to start a course at university, with over a third of university applicants going to Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge. In addition, many students have also been offered places on highly sought-after school leaver programmes and apprenticeship schemes.
At Comberton we want to give you the freedom and flexibility to build a programme of study that reflects your priorities and ensures that you maximise your sixth form experience, which includes allowing students to take a fourth A-Level with us, either as a trial at the start of term (to help confirm your options), or through to examination.
For those that would like to concentrate on 3 A-levels or a BTEC Extended diploma, there are extra courses for academic extension. Take a look at the ‘Additional Studies’ subject pages for information on the International Project Qualification (IPQ), Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Level 3 Core Maths in either statistics or graphical techniques.
Our students also enjoy an extensive range of additional opportunities beyond the classroom, to help develop other skills that will benefit them in the future. These include numerous enrichment and social opportunities alongside subject trips, both international and UK based. The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Ski trip to the USA, Costa Rica and organised university visits (to name a few) are hugely popular.
Thank you for your interest in Comberton Sixth Form.
JEREMY FROST, HEAD OF SIXTH FORM
THE COMBERTON SIXTH FORM EXPERIENCE
The transition from school to sixth form and beyond is an exciting time and one which brings many opportunities and challenges, some of which may initially seem a little daunting. At Comberton Sixth Form we invite you to embrace the change, offering you the opportunity to grow and flourish in a college environment where you have greater independence and are treated like the young adult that you have become.
You will be expected to take greater responsibility for your learning, but you will also have the freedom to manage your time outside the classroom, enabling you to strike a balance that is right for you. Our superb on-site facilities give you a range of options, including time to unwind at the café or gym, or space to extend your academic and personal interests, either in the specialist music and arts studios or dedicated library and resource centre. Extensive independent study facilities mean that there is always space for you to work as and when you wish, whilst an array of opportunities outside the classroom (from work experience, to D of E, to leadership roles) will ensure that you are never short of options to extend yourself and enrich your experience.
Comberton students really thrive in this environment, which prepares them well for university and the world of work.
In my experience, the support they give you at Comberton Sixth Form is amazing! As someone who has needed to access support, in a variety of forms due to personal reasons, I can say that it has been incredibly helpful and has made everything just that little bit easier. The support team are very approachable and have always made me feel heard and understood. Knowing that there is always someone I can go to, whenever I need help, has meant I felt positive in planning for my next steps and look forward to the future.
Lily Wood – Drama & Theatre Studies, Film Studies, Sociology
The encouragement I received from the beginning of sixth form made me determined to apply to Cambridge to study Veterinary Medicine. A visit to Peterhouse in Year 12 gave me an early insight into how to make a competitive Oxbridge application. Following on from this, talks from Admissions staff gave specific guidance on writing a personal statement, and further support from Comberton staff later in Year 13 gave me valuable feedback on my draft statement. I found the mock interview at the beginning of Year 13 particularly useful in developing my confidence and getting a feel for what to expect. The staff have always been really helpful in highlighting supercurricular opportunities, without which I would have missed a really enjoyable three-day residential course at St Catherine’s College for prospective Vet applicants. I’ve loved my time at Comberton, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me to reach my potential.”
Emily Talbot – Biology, Chemistry, Maths
I have loved every bit of the BTEC Health and Social Care course as it has allowed me to work with incredible teachers and meet amazing fellow students. The course has provided me with incredible opportunities and opened doors that has allowed me to pursue my passion for nursing. I’ve gained valuable knowledge and practical skills that will be very useful in my nursing apprenticeship. It’s been a journey of growth and discovery, and I’m grateful for the chance to make a difference in people’s lives through my future career.
Erika Jimenez – Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care
I’ve really enjoyed my first year at CSF. Despite hardly knowing anyone on my first day in September, I never felt like an outsider and have met so many nice, like-minded people since I joined. A personal highlight of mine has been completing the Cambridge IPQ. The whole research and essay writing process is very independent and the freedom of choosing the topic and focus points of your essay has led me to explore fields and ideas that I would never have come into contact with otherwise. Plus, the end result of a physical essay from all your hard work is incredibly rewarding!
I have been given a huge amount of support and guidance from a range of staff at Comberton to help me think about my next steps after sixth form. We had various sessions from guest speakers and staff about the different routes available, including a really useful careers fair with lots of different prospective employers. I was unsure whether university or an apprenticeship was going to be the best option for me so I had meetings with Ms Lawson, the Careers Advisor, who helped me weigh up the pros and cons of each route. I decided to apply for university and I am holding an offer for the University of Edinburgh to study Japanese.
Anastasia Iljina – Art & Design, Psychology, Politics
During my time at CSF, I have been given the opportunity to be involved in many extra-curricular activities. Many of these were offered to us through the enrichment program. This exposed us to a variety of sports, art clubs, mentoring groups and music clubs, which enabled us to expand our skills to take beyond sixth form. I was involved in the production of ‘Six’ as the choreographer which allowed me to work with the cast to create and direct their solos and ensemble dances. I had the creative freedom to produce my own work whilst meeting new people and enjoying my time doing what I love with people who were just as passionate.
Izzy James – Drama & Theatre Studies, Geography, Psychology, Core Maths
We offer a wide range of courses and opportunities, giving you the freedom and flexibility to build an individualised study programme that reflects your priorities and ensures that you maximise your Sixth Form experience and realise your ambitions.
Naturally, your A-level or BTEC courses will sit at the heart of your study programme, which can then be enhanced by a range of additional courses and activities designed to meet your individual needs and provide opportunities for academic challenge, breadth of study and personal development.

“The support I had at CSF was amazing. I was always supported with my coursework, exams and work experience. My course was thoroughly enjoyable and gave me so much confidence going into university. The staff were fantastic at providing me with personal guidance when choosing a university and throughout the whole application process. Receiving an offer to undertake a sporting degree at Loughborough University is with huge thanks to the support I received from the staff at CSF.”
Frankie Stafford

“I am really grateful for the fantastic support I had while at CSF. Teachers continually made lessons challenging, with interesting ways of teaching the A-Level syllabus, allowing for not only success in exams but also an environment which fostered independent research. In particular, I attended after school tutoring sessions where the class could choose particular topics to revise in the run-up to exams. I can certainly say that this high level of support helped me to achieving the final grades I needed. The highlight of my experience was how I was always encouraged to become genuinely interested in the subjects I studied. From this I found my passion for finance and lead to me now working as a trader at Goldman Sachs, a path that wouldn’t have been possible without all the help I received.”
