Months spent indoors avoiding the harsh weather outside makes winter a difficult season for people who love the great outdoors. While skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports make it possible to get some fresh air even when that air is frigid, many people find it difficult to consistently get outside when temperatures drop. That difficulty no doubt contributes to the popularity of spring, a season widely seen as a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. I love seeing all the plants and flowers come back after the winter and planting in my garden in the beautiful springtime weather. I plan to spend as much time outside before the heat of summer is upon us.

The best time to buy a new car and other cost-saving tips of car fits their needs and their budgets.
Shop the end of the month No matter the month, waiting until the last week of the month may be a good time to buy. Sales managers and dealerships in general have a monthly quota to meet and are compensated accordingly. Negotiating at this time means shoppers can get a good deal, while salespeople can move vehicles.
Choose the right day of the week
S
hopping for a new car can be an exciting and sometimes stressful process. A vehicle is one of the largest purchases a person will make in his or her lifetime, so choosing an automobile requires careful research and some comparison shopping. According to IHS Automotive, there are more than 250 million registered passenger vehicles in the United States. In Canada, 33,168,805 vehicle registrations were reported by Statistics Canada in 2015. With so many cars and trucks on the road, it’s important for drivers to get a vehicle that meets their needs and fits their budgets. The following are some pointers for prospective buyers looking to save some money on their next vehicles.
Wait for model changeover Pay attention to news regarding which vehicle models will be retired

or redesigned, as this may indicate which vehicles might be offered at the best deals. The model year should also be considered when looking for a new car. Many buyers are naturally attracted to the newest model year, feeling that if they’re going to pay a lot for a car or truck, they want to do so for the newest available model. Buyers who don’t need the newest model available may find a better deal than those who do.
Choose a different body type The National Automobile Dealers Association advises that pickup trucks and SUVs continue to command high prices. Shoppers who look at sedans, compact cars and even luxury vehicles may be able to get a better price than those looking for trucks or SUVs. Buyers should assess their needs and see if a different body style or category
According to a study by TrueCar. com, an automotive pricing and information website, Sunday is the best day of the week to purchase a vehicle. Buyers can expect to pay as much as $2,000 more for the same vehicle on Friday than those who shop on a Sunday. Monday is also a good day, as there is less foot traffic and it may be possible to wrangle a better deal. Waiting until the end of the day can be advantageous, too. Salespeople may be anxious to close out sales so they can get home at quitting time.
Get financing ahead of time Knowing your budget ahead of time and prearranging financing can put shoppers in a better position when it comes time to negotiate. Strong credit scores and decent down payments make certain buyers better prospects for dealerships. It also may mean their purchasing power can translate into better deals. Shopping for a new car can be challenging and exciting all at once. Purchasing at the right time can save drivers money and get them in the car of their dreams.h

Recognize and avoid buying a lemon
N
ew or preowned vehicles are significant investments. New cars might be more expensive than preowned models, but according to Edmunds, the average cost of a preowned vehicle is around $16,000. Preowned vehicles seem and often are consumer-friendly options. However, preowned vehicles always carry some measure of risk. Unless a vehicle is covered by a warranty, consumers take that risk on themselves. One way for buyers to reduce any anxiety they may have about preowned vehicles is to learn as much as they can about automobiles and spotting potential lemons. Despite the availability of vehicle history reports, some lemons still make it onto used car lots. The following are a handful of ways buyers can protect themselves from buying lemons.
Research vehicles through reputable sources. Investigate the reliability ratings of certain vehicles on reputable sites such as Edmunds.com, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website (NHTSA.gov) and Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com).
Ask the right questions. Once you find a vehicle that interests you, ask pointed questions about its condition and features. Relatively new cars with high mileage may raise red flags, so ask how many owners such vehicles had and if maintenance records are available. Consumer Reports says a high-mileage car used on a long highway commute is better than if the car does many short trips or stop-and-go driving. Also ask if a vehicle you’re considering has been in an accident or if there are any recalls on the make and model.
of owners, airbag deployment, and many other clues that can shed light on the condition of the vehicle. The report also may included warranty information and whether the car or truck was branded a lemon.
Conduct a visual inspection. Look at the vehicle for certain telltale signs of wear and tear that may indicate you should not buy the vehicle. Such indicators may include prematurely worn pedals or a sagging driver’s seat. Check for dents, chipped paint, mismatched body panels, body filler, or sloppy repair work. Inconsistent welds around the hood also may indicate the car has undergone significant repairs. When looking under the hood, Consumer Reports suggests paying attention to the level of grease and corrosion on the engine, radiator and battery. Check for wet spots that continued
Request a vehicle history report. Ask to see a copy of the vehicle’s history report. Such reports may include information about major accidents, mileage counts, number

may be indicative of leaks. Melted wires or blackened areas can be a sign of an engine overheating or even a fire.
Rely on a trusted mechanic. Ask a mechanic you trust to give the vehicle a thorough, professional inspection. He or she may be able to spot signs of a lemon more readily than amateurs. Purchasing a car can induce some anxiety. Research and patience can calm buyers’ nerves and ensure they find the right vehicle at the right price. h
Dedicated to Quality
Did you know? Though more buyers may prefer to lease new vehicles over preowned vehicles, some prospective lessees consider leasing preowned automobiles. According to the automotive resource Edmunds.com, many dealerships restrict their preowned lease inventory to vehicles that are less than four years old and have fewer than 48,000 miles. In addition, dealerships may only allow potential preowned lessees to lease vehicles that have been certified. Some drivers may prefer leasing preowned vehicles because the cost to do so can be considerably less than the cost to lease brand new vehicles. Those costs are less for various reasons, including the preowned vehicle having a lower value and lower rate of depreciation than a brand new car or truck. Though many dealerships are willing to lease preowned vehicles, prospective lessees may find that more dealerships prefer leasing brand new vehicles than used models. Still, for potential lessees who intend to buy their vehicles at the end of their leases, preowned leases may make the best fit, as preowned leased vehicles will likely cost considerably less than to purchase when the lease expires than vehicles that were leased brand new.

Convertibles can be enjoyed regardless of where drivers live. According to Forbes magazine, although 23 percent of convertibles are owned by those in California or Florida, the top five markets in the United States also include colder cities like New York and Chicago. Choose the right tire for your vehicle and season
M
otorists spend hours behind the wheel and spend lots of money on maintenance to ensure their vehicles are in top working order. But tires are one area of maintenance that often goes unchecked, even by the most diligent automobile owners. Tires undergo a lot of wear and tear, which only highlights the importance of proper tire maintenance. But many drivers do not give tires a passing thought until there is a problem, such as a flat or excessive wear. Also, some drivers think that all tires are the same, failing to realize that the kind of tires vehicles need depends on various factors. In addition to the size and type of vehicle, drivers should consider the type of driving they do and the driving conditions they routinely encounter before choosing tires for their vehicles. Many vehicles come off the lot with all-season passenger tires because these tires are among the most versatile. However, if you live in a particular climate or do a lot of driving that requires specific traction or maneu-

complex treads maximize traction in hot, humid weather. If you live in an area where the temperature is consistently steamy, summer tires may be a good investment.
ALL-SEASON
WINTER TIRES
All-season tires provide all-season versatility, good wear and ride comfort. They can be dependable tires and offer light snow traction as well. All-season tires provide adequate protection in many conditions, but do not offer specific benefits in any one area. They’re likely to be satisfactory for a vast array of drivers. All-season tires are typically offered in touring and passenger types. Touring will provide lower road noise and better handing, while passenger varieties offer a smooth ride and longevity.
A safety precaution for many people who live where conditions often include snow, ice and cold weather, winter tires can be lifesavers. These tires are designed using several different types of rubber, and feature tread designs that maximize traction during inclement conditions. Winter tires also come in various subcategories. Studdable winter tires provide the extra security of added studs to enhance traction on ice. Performance winter tires offer better dry road handling, but traction on snow and ice may be compromised.
SUMMER TIRES

have a variety of tire types. There are off-road varieties, which will offer an aggressive tread design for off-road traction and other obstacles. Light truck tires help provide durability and traction. Specially designed SUV tires may be large, but can still offer comfort-focused

hen warm weather arrives, many people enjoy a collective sigh of relief. Just as people welcome the end of the cold, snow and ice, cars and trucks also can benefit from more moderate temperatures. Salt, grime and pot holes can take a toll on tires over the course of a typical winter. Drivers will not get far this spring and summer without tires in good repair, which is why tire maintenance should be part of any seasonal repair checklist.
tion. Mechanics may recommend rotating tires every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, or about every six months for the average driver. Wheel realignment may be necessary after a season of driving over potholes and other irregularities in the road. Misaligned wheels can cause handling problems, like the car “pulling” to one side.
INFLATION LEVELS
TIRE REPLACEMENT
Now is the time to use a tire pressure gauge to see if tires are at the ideal inflation levels. Many tires indicate the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) on their sidewalls. Cold temperatures may cause tires to deflate a little. Esurance states that winter weather can cause tire pressure reduction at about one PSI for every 10 degrees the temperature drops. Driving on improperly inflated tires can be dangerous, potentially affecting handling and braking distances. Check tires when they are cold for the most accurate reading. Properly inflated tires also will improve fuel economy, so drivers may even save a little money by inflating their tires.
Drivers may discover extreme tread wear, bulges or even cracks in the sidewall during a tire inspection. These signs indicate that it’s time to replace the tires. Failing to replace old, worn down tires can increase the risk of automobile accidents.
TIRE ROTATION/REALIGNMENT Examine the tires for tread wear. Any uneven or abnormal tread wear could indicate that the tires need to be rotated and the wheels realigned at the very least. Take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic to get their opinion on how to remedy the situa-
THOROUGH CLEANING Once tires are inspected and possibly serviced or replaced, treat the car or truck to a washing and thorough detailing. This will help tires shine and get the vehicle road-ready for spring trips. h

Rico’s Mexican Grill Rico’s Mexican Grill – The name is the same, but virtually everything else has changed! Rico’s Mexican Grill located at 8765 Spring Cypress Road in the Kroger Shopping Center across from Gleannloch Farms has new owners. Froylan Perez and Paola Navarrete officially took over the restaurant in October of last year. “The name was established, so we didn’t really want to change that,” said Froylan , the restaurant’s owner and manager. “What we’re doing basically is focusing on the food and the service and really trying to just set us apart from previous ownership.” The quaint Mexican eatery that was under previous ownership was a bit neglected and the food and service had become stale over the last few years. That’s the message the restaurant’s new management is aiming to convey in a variety of ways, including revamping the menu, adding daily and weekly promotions, and improving customer service. Rico’s Mexican Grill under its new ownership, has hired all new staff to create homemade dishes and use only the freshest of ingredients. “We’re just trying to show that whatever the impressions that were left from the last ownership of Rico’s that now this is a whole different restaurant,” Froylan Perez said. The restaurant also boosted customer service expectations and increased menu offerings to include a vast array of appetizers, soups, salads and a fresh taste of Mexican flair. Rico’s will also be holding a host of fun-filled promotions in the future and follow them on social media for the latest events. Please stop by and give a warm community welcome to the new owners Perez and Paola and also congratulate the new ownership and also the newest addition coming this late summer. They are expecting a boy and Paola is just glowing with pride.h

5 Things To Look For When Selecting A Lawn Service Most people want beautiful, lush lawns and well-maintained lanscapes. Not every homeowner has the time or the inclination to do the work, however. Many homeowners rely on a lawn service to help maintain their properties and keep their homes looking great. Lawn companies come in all shapes and sizes – from fly-by-night workers with ill-maintained equipment to franchised companies with thousands of workers across the country to everything in between. Finding the right service for your needs may require some homework and understanding of what sets a quality lawn service company apart from one that’s best avoided. 1. Look to the internet. The internet connects consumers via shared information and reviews. Reading company and product reviews on Yelp and Angie’s List can help homeowners make informed decisions. Homeowners also can seek recommendations via local Facebook group pages. 2. Insist on licensure and insurance. It’s not the standard to be licensed
in the weekly, monthly or annual plan. Discuss the types of fertilizers and herbicides used and whether they fit with your lifestyle and environmental consciousness. 4. Ask for a contract in writing. When you find a business that offers the type of work you need done at the right price, be sure that a contract is worked up and both parties sign it. This protects you as a homeowner and could help you in the long run if guarantees are not met or work is unsatisfactory. and insured, but it is an essential step for finding a business that stands behind its work and the safety of its employees and customers. If a worker gets injured on your property or if the mower kicks a big rock through your storm door, you’ll be liable if the company isn’t insured. 3. Get a written proposal. Be wary of companies that will quote you an offer over the phone without seeing your property in person. Understand which types of services and treatments will be included

5. One size fits all. Landscaping is more than just mowing the lawn. However, some lawn companies may only mow lawns and will plant flowers or perform spring and fall cleanup. If a company cannot fill all of your needs, find one that can; otherwise, you may need to hire specialists in each area of yard maintenance. Lawn care companies are something to consider as the weather warms and spring projects begin anew. h

Pain vs. Pleasure Tips from Master Josh Arcemont When it comes to motivation and why people do the things that they do, it comes down to the simple science of pain versus pleasure. In its simplest form, all decisions that human beings make are to either gain pleasure or to avoid pain. Any act can be broken down this way. Why do we brush our teeth? Why do we spend time making ourselves look nice before going out? Why would someone go to the gym every day? All of these actions can be sliced down to an individual trying to attain pleasure and/or avoid the pain that an action is going to bring. As it turns out, while human beings want to both avoid pain and gain pleasure, they will do more for one than the other. Avoiding immediate pain is much more motivating than gaining immediate pleasure. If there is a lion running after you versus a suitcase full of money in front of you, which would motivate the average human to act quickly? Avoiding a certain amount of immediate pain wins over gaining immediate pleasure every time. Studies have demonstrated time and time again that people will do much more to avoid short term pain than they will to gain short term pleasure.

The pain of tomorrow is not as powerful of a force as pain today. Pain in a decade is absolutely far less motivating (or demotivating) than pain a week from now. This is precisely why most human beings have such a hard time saving money even though you can receive interest and free money by delaying spending. As time goes on, our perception of pain and pleasure changes. The life hack we want to master is changing our perception of what is pain and what is pleasure. Since we know pain is a greater motivator then we must attach the sensation of pain to activities that don’t serve us. Instead of attaching pain to the feeling of working out, attach pain to the feeling of being lazy and unfit. This won’t happen overnight but as time goes on you will slowly begin to re-train your brain.

treatments to increase its strength compared to normal glass. While relatively strong for a pieces of glass, windshields are not impervious to damage. All it takes is a single rock or piece of road debris to be kicked up from the roadway and hit the windshield to cause a problem.
Every day motorists encounter pebbles or other small missiles that bounce up from the road and come in contact with their windshields. Many deflect with no problem, but under high speeds, debris can cause chips, dings, and even cracks in the windshield. Cracks easily spread from road vibration and heat and can compromise the integrity of the windshield. If your car’s windshield is cracked and it shatters during a collision, you and your passengers are at great risk of injury. In addition, police officers can write tickets if windshields appear to be unsafe. So it’s in drivers’ best interests to repair damaged windshields promptly. Drivers may be able to repair small dings themselves with a do-it-yourself windshield kit available at automotive retailers. If a crack is less than six to 12 inches long, it can probably be repaired as well. However, more significant damage will require that the entire windshield be replaced. h

Outdoor living spaces have grown in popularity as more and more homeowners embrace opportunities to entertain and lounge around in their yards. Outdoor entertaining areas can be great, but such spaces may go unused when summer sun makes it uncomfortable to spend time outdoors. But an outdoor roller shade can change all that. They reduce the heat and glare of the summer sun to make outdoor living spaces enjoyable year round. Outdoor roller shades can create privacy and establish boundaries for outdoor living areas. They can be placed to provide shade for an entire patio area for those who want to enjoy being outside while escaping the sun’s rays. They also provide excellent protection against sun damage, as they can shield outdoor furniture from direct sunlight, helping to reduce the chances for discoloration or fading. Outdoor roller shades can be operated manually or with motorization. A manual shade will use a cord loop or hand crank to raise and lower the shade. Motorized outdoor roller shades have a motor that raises or lowers the shade. The motorized shades are operated by a remote or can be automated. Automated outdoor roller shades can be controlled using a smart phone app or smart home platform like Amazon Alexa. The automated shades can be programmed to raise and lower at certain times of day or based on weather conditions. Motorized outdoor roller shades have evolved as technology has advanced. In the past, motorizing outdoor roller shades was a costly project because they would have to
be hardwired by an electrician to ensure the electrical components of the shade were not exposed to the elements. Now the technology has advanced to rechargeable motors that are protected from weather conditions. For those who may be selling their homes soon, outdoor roller shades may help them receive top dollar. To-

day’s buyers want houses that have attractive and functional exteriors, and an outdoor roller shade can provide that competitive advantage over similar homes in the neighborhood. When renovating outdoor areas, homeowners should not overlook that adding an outdoor roller shade can make outdoor living spaces more comfortable and inviting. h

Outdoor Improvements That
Boost Home Value
Whether home improvement projects are design to improve the interior or exterior of a house, focusing on renovations that make the most financial sense can benefit homeowners in the long run. The right renovations can be assets if and when homeowners decide to sell their homes. So how does one get started? First and foremost, speak to a local real estate agent who is knowledgeable about trends in the community. While a swimming pool may be something coveted in one area, it may impede sales in another. It also helps to study generalized trends and data from various home improvement industry analysts to guide upcoming projects. The following outdoor projects are just a few renovations that tend to add value.
FIRE PIT
A fire pit is a great place to gather most months of the year. Bob Vila and CBS news report that a fire pit realizes a 78 percent return on investment, or ROI.
OUTDOOR KITCHEN
Many buyers are looking to utilize their yards as an extension of interior living areas. Cooking, dining and even watching TV outdoors is increasingly popular. Outdoor living areas can be custom designed and built. In addition, prefabricated modular units that require a much
smaller commitment of time and money are available.
PATIO
Homeowners who do not already have a patio will find that adding one can increase a home’s value. Patios help a home look neat, add useable space and may help a home to sell quickly. The experts at Space Wise, a division of Extra Space Storage, say that refinishing, repairing and building a new patio offers strong ROI.
DECK
Deck can be as valuable as patios. A deck is another outdoor space that can be used for entertaining, dining and more. Remodeling magazine’s 2018 “Cost vs. Value” report indicates that an $11,000 deck can add about $9,000 in resale value to the home, recouping around 82 percent of the project’s costs.
DOOR UPDATE
Improve curb appeal with a new, high-end front door and garage doors. If that’s too expensive, a good cleaning and new coat of paint can make an old door look brand new. These easy fixes can improve a home’s look instantly.
NEW LANDSCAPING
The National Association of Realtors says an outdoor makeover that includes well-thought out landscaping can net 105 percent ROI. Installing a walkway, adding stone planters, mulching, and planting shrubs are ideas to consider. Many different outdoor projects can add value to a home.h

Why It’s Smart To Have A
SMART HOME
Devices are everywhere. According to a recent visual networking index forecast from Cisco, by 2021, there will be four networked devices and connections per person across the globe. Those figures are even greater in North America, where Cisco estimates each person will have 13 networked devices and connections by 2021. With all those devices, it’s no surprise that a greater number of people are embracing the smart home movement. Those who have yet to jump on the bandwagon can benefit from learning more about smart homes and why it’s intelligent to have a smart home.
What is a smart home? According to SmartHomeUSA.com, the term “smart home” is commonly used to define residences in which appliances, lighting, heating and cooling units, televisions, computers, entertainment systems and security systems are capable of communicating with one another. Each of these components can be controlled remotely, typically via a smartphone.
TIME A recent joint survey from CNET and Coldwell Banker found that 57 percent of Americans say that smart home technology saves them an average of 30 minutes per day. That’s an especially beneficial advantage for busy parents and/or professionals who find it difficult to juggle all of their daily responsibilities.
MONEY
Why is it smart to have a smart home? The benefits of a smart home are numerous, and will likely only multiply as people utilize more devices.
24 Neighborhood Publications
Another benefit to smart homes is their cost savings. Because devices can be controlled remotely, smart home owners can adjust the temperatures on their heating and cooling units while away from home. That means they can arrive home each night to a comfortable home without having to run their HVAC systems all day while no one was home. In fact, the CNET/Coldwell Banker survey found 45 percent
of Americans say that smart home products save them an average of $98.30 each month.
INVESTMENT Whether you’re a developer or a single-family homeowner, real estate is an investment. Making a home as appealing to prospective buyers as possible is a great way to get a better return on your real estate investment. The CNET/ Coldwell Banker survey found that 81 percent of buyers would be more likely to buy a home if smart home products were already installed. That can make the market for your home more competitive, ultimately earning you more money at resale. Smart homes are both the present and the future. Homeowners who want to make their homes more livable today and more marketable tomorrow should consider investing in smart home products. h

Safely share
the road
M
otorists, motorcycle riders, cyclists, and pedestrians converge on roadways across the globe every day. While many travelers respect their fellow road warriors, the potential for highway accidents is great. Taking measures to share the road safely can greatly reduce all travelers’ risk of being involved in a traffic accident. The National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration says that, despite historical declines in automobile fatalities, motorcycle deaths have increased nearly every year for the past 14 years. The lone exception was 2009. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says more than 900 cyclists were killed and there were an estimated 494,000 emergency room visits due to bicyclerelated injuries in the United States in 2013. While not all of these accidents are directly related to unsafe conditions or collisions with motorists, individuals can take various precautionary measures to make roadways safer for all travelers. Never ride impaired or distracted. This rule applies to everyone on the road, no matter the mode of travel. Alcohol, drugs and distractions like mobile phones can impair judgement and reduce reaction times. Do not wear headphones. Drivers

and cyclists should never wear headphones, which can make it hard to hear approaching travelers and any horns, sirens or indicators of unsafe conditions. Check the curb lane. Drivers should always check their mirrors and pay special attention to the right of their vehicles so they can determine if any cyclists are approaching. And always be on the lookout for pedestrians, particularly at crosswalks. Bikers and cyclists must anticipate hazards. Motorcycles and bicycles can be more difficult to see, especially when positioned in blind spots of vehicles. Motorcycle riders and cyclists should position themselves in traffic accordingly and try to anticipate what drivers might do if motorcycles and bicycles are in their blind spots. Improve visibility. Everyone on the road should make themselves as visible as possible to others. Pedestrians and cyclists can wear bright colors and use reflective tape. Cars should keep their daytime running lights on and use headlights in inclement weather. Rain, fog and snow can impair visual conditions for all travelers, so exercise extreme caution when traveling in adverse conditions.
Use safety equipment. Bicycle helmets, motorcycle helmets and other protective gear can save lives. Everyone should wear a properly fitted helmet. Motorists and their passengers should always wear their safety belts. Obey the rules of the road. Whether on foot, on a bicycle, on a motorcycle, or in a car, the rules of the road remain the same. Heed traffic signals, yield to others when applicable and maintain proper speeds. Also, remember to use turn signals when turning and/or changing lanes. Be aware of road conditions. The NHTSA says that road conditions that are minor annoyances to motorists can pose major hazards to motorcycle riders and cyclists. Riders may change speed or adjust position within a lane suddenly in reaction to road and traffic conditions, such as potholes, gravel, wet or slippery surfaces, pavement seams, railroad crossings, and grooved pavement. Drivers should anticipate such adjustments. Working in concert, everyone can improve safety for those sharing the road. h

How to prevent car theft when the car is parked. Keep the vehicle registration in your wallet. Geico notes that car thieves can escape arrest if they can produce the vehicle’s registration upon being pulled over. Keep your registration out of the car and on your person. Keep track of your keys. Do not hide a car key outside of the vehicle in the event you get locked out of your car. Thieves are aware of this trick and can steal your car. Keep valuables out of sight. Do not leave money, jewelry, electronics, or any other valuable items in plain sight in the car. Remove them promptly, or keep them in a trunk or under a cargo bed so they’re not visible to potential thieves.
F
ew motorists think much about preventing vehicle theft . . . until their cars are stolen. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a vehicle is stolen every 44 seconds in the United States. Many of those are recovered, but being victimized by car thieves can be a nervewracking and unsettling experience for car owners. While car thefts are unpredictable, they can be prevented. While even the most proactive anti-theft car owner can be victimized by car thieves, there are ways to reduce that risk. Avoid the most stolen vehicle makes. The 2016 “Hot Wheels” report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau lists the most frequently stolen vehicles from 2015, the most recent year for reporting. These include: the 1997, 1996 & 1997 Honda Accord; 1998 & 2000 Honda Civic; 2005 & 2006 Ford F-Series pickup truck; 2004 & 2005 Chevrolet full-size pickup; and the 2014 Toyota Camry. Lock your car. Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even when driving. Many cars are stolen while left unlocked, even though power locks now require just the push of a button to lock the entire vehicle. Similarly, close all windows and the sunroof

Park in well-lit, heavily trafficked areas. Parking in a well-lit area can deter criminals, but parking close to building entrances and near parking lot security cameras adds
extra layers of protection. If you must park in a parking garage, try to park close to the attendant. Employ an anti-theft device. Anti-theft devices include vehicle immobilizer systems and car alarms. Insurance companies may discount premiums for vehicles that are equipped with anti-theft devices. Use technological recovery tools. GPS technology can pinpoint your car if it is stolen and send that information to law enforcement officials. Some of these devices also can slow down vehicles or remotely block the car’s ignition switch. Use VIN window etching. Have each window etched with the vehicle identification number. This will make the car less attractive to thieves looking to sell car parts or the entire vehicle. Motorists can take an active role in preventing car theft and safeguarding their automotive investments.h
