Prized Possessions

Photographs are us… Possessions are us…

This is my record player and vinyl collection. I bought the turntable as a gift to myself for my birthday, and have been using it constantly for the past two years, as I continue to build up my record collection. I love vinyls because they're truly ageless vintage or new - they will never become outdated. Special memories associated with this collection have been when the people closest to me have contributed by gifting me vinyls. It's important to me because I will always hope to hold on to this physical soundtrack throughout my lifetime.

This is a portion of my collection of crystals and mineral stones. I started collecting them around two years ago when I was going through a hard time in my life and needed to focus my attention somewhere. I love them because they light up my bedroom and create a positive environment for me to be in. A special memory of them was my first full moon cleansing ceremony where I cleaned them all in the ocean and the beach under moonlight. It is important to me and my spirituality because each energy has a different unique energy which helps promote individual growth, peace and prosperity.

This is my Tenor Saxophone. I got it when I started doing lessons at high school. I love it because it makes a unique and different sound, and it's just fun to play! A special memory was my first school performance. It’s very important to me and I take great and responsibility of it!

This is my iPhone. I got it when my last phone died and have had it since February 2016. My previous phone was also an iPhone. I love it because I can use my social media and most importantly use my Snapchat. It is important to me because it keeps all my memories and keeps me social.

This is my candle-mania. I love candles because they offer a sense of tranquillity and peace at the end of a busy day. I usually buy or seriously consider a candle's scent/colour/effect anytime I go out. It’s an addiction. But a pleasant one that everyone in the family enjoys when they are lit - transmitting their fragrance and soothing light. It's important to me because despite the busyness of life, there should also be time to slow down a little and repair for the next day's crazy schedule!!

This is a glimpse of my book collection. On the whole I enjoy thrillers/crime novels. The Stieg Larsson series is one of my favourites. I have enjoyed this particular series because the lead character (Lisabeth Salander) is believable and the books are exciting thrillers. A special event was the release of the first film, based on the book - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's important to me because I have enjoyed the continuity and the fact the books have been made into movies.

This is my cafetiere. I inherited it from my grandpa 4 years ago. Coffee has naturally become my favourite beverage as my whole family love it and we can’t go a day without it. To me there’s nothing like a long black coffee. A special memory with my grandpas’s cafetiere was making coffee for him when I got home from school. It’s so important to me because it reminds me of my grandpa and family as coffee always brings us together.

This is my 2001 Holden Rodeo, named Johnson. I bought it secondhand last year. I love it because its reliable and takes me places other cars can’t get to. Some special features are the 33-inch mud tyres and the rooftop tent. One of the best experiences I’ve had with it was camping with friends deep into the Snowy River National Park. It's important to me because I like camping and outdoor adventures.

This is my Professional Cosmetic Case (aka. my baby). I got it when my father realised this obsession with makeup and beauty was taking up the larger portion of his household. My parents are separated so lugging half my bathroom house-to-house each week was a challenge. The initial reveal of this gift was pretty important to me. It symbolised my father understanding makeup as more than just ‘a girly thing’ I do, and appreciating my passions. Very few can comprehend the idea of spending $4,000 a year on cosmetics, so thanks Dad for having trust in these questionable spending habits of mine. For me it is more than just a suitcase for storage: It’s a form of organising my creative expression. Makeup at its core is painting beauty; becoming skilled at transforming features, understanding a spectrum of characters, and putting life into our own. This toolbox of glitter, lines and colour which can be used to define a particular moment or feeling. I’ve always been a creative person and being able to transcend the lines of a pencil to linear reality is a blessing. Creativity is a gift and makeup allows us confidently express this every day.
