LITHO PINION
Above : page from an early " teaching mach ine" with an 1894 copyright by The Diamond Litho-Publishing Co . of Minneapolis. The editors of Lithopinion found this set of 28" x 42" lithographed wall charts in an old book shop . The series of 24 charts covered the principals of numbers, measures and arithmatic with pictorial and verbal explanations that had remarkable similarity to the new communication approaches in the " new math " courses. Right : portfolio of photographs by Ralph Breswitz based on the opening paragraph of Dickin 's " A Tale of Two Cities." " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times , it was the age of reason , it was the age of foolishness , it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven , we were all going direct the other way- in short, it was like the world we live in."
