You are seeing on these pages a mixed bag of some favorites from my own collection, totally subjective, probably reflecting my musical tastes as much as graphic, and in no way purporting to be a comprehensive survey of the state of the art. In some cases I don't even know who was responsible, nor indeed, exactly why I chose them. Follow;ng that are profiles, with selected work, of five

people in the graphic end of the record business. They were chosen partly because of a particular kind of work they produce, or because of the niche their company occupies, or simply because they're very good at what they do. I leave it to you to decide who was picked for what reason, but there were no hard lines and lots of overlap.-D.S.

moguls haven't even gotten to the point of considering the album itself to be point-of-purchase ; they define that as being posters, mobiles, buttons, banners, displays and giveaways-all of which Craig also produces-coupled with "deals:' What kinds of deals can only be guessed at, but Craig obviously feels that the moguls consider them to be far more essential to the record business than custom packaging. Like Vince Biondi at London Records, Braun also has an anecdote about the ubiquitous Rolling Stones. This concerns the Sticky Fingers album, for which

Poster for Cabr illo Music Festival. Theme was also used for programs, tickets, other printed information. Label designs for the Santa Cruz line and fruit wines of Bargetto's Winery. A redesign of labels for their premium wines is now projected. Mark, letterhead, vehicle and plane markings from an identity program for Big Creek, lumber company. Light green in the symbol picks up the coloring of new growth trees. Portable display for Silva-Fiber, a product of the Wood Biproducts division of Weyerhaeuser Company. Cover for a book of plans for early Victorian homes, Glenwood Publishers. Symbol for the Spring Fair, an ecology oriented fair held in Pacific Garden Mall. The entire symbol and parts of it were screened on huge canvas banners as well as used on posters.
