Cultural Influences: God's creat ion is the most influ ential element in my artwork .. line, shape, color, contrast and moti on are all aro und us in everything we see, ca lling out for individual interpretation . I also try to study art and design as much as possible . I love to learn about the art and philosophies of different eras and places. I am charmed by the past and present work of great creators like Joan Mir6, Henry Moore, Antonio Gaudi, Paul Rand, AI Steig, Emil io Pucci, Rita Blitt, Charles S. Anderson, Sabrina Ward Harrison, Paul Howalt and Cathie Bleck, to name on ly a few. Th e quality and quantity of work these artists have developed has made an amazi ng impression on my own creative expression. Environment: I work in a 3,200-sq uare-foot warehouse space in the Guildhaus building in downtown Cincinnati. I sha re the space w ith photographer Brian Steege . I've always enjoyed working in nontraditional spaces with non -traditional people, and this place is no exception . The studio is old and spacious and beautiful. Natural lig ht pours in from nearly twenty wi nd ows arou nd the w hole space and I am surrounded by strange props, tri nkets, and ama zing photographs I love spendi ng my days here and I love working with someo ne in a simila r industry .. .more resources, more ideas, more opportunities, more to learn and a lot more fun . Philosophy: "The role of the art ist in society is to lift the sp irit, to somehow let us see the good ness in thi ngs." When I read this quote by rural architect Samuel Mockbee, I felt it incorporated my philosophy as an artist as well. I believe we all have a responsibility as visual communicators to create work that adds value to our existence, if only to evoke a simple smi le. I decided a w hile ago that I wanted to be someone who represents the good ness in life by creating, learning, th inking, exploring, sharing , serving, motivating and of course, by laughing!
