location: I was born in Manhattan and moved to the town of Chappaqua, in Westchester, New York. I have lived in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and England, and have now found my niche in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I live and work in my apartment, one block from Prospect Park which offers an escape in times of stress. Duration: Two-and-a-half years. Size: My staff consists of myself and Violet, my black-and-white cat.

Education: After graduating from high schoo l in Chappaqua, I spent a year traveling and came back to New York where I attended Parsons School of Design . In 1998, I graduated with honors from the Illustration Department with a B.F.A. and began my career as a freelance illustrator. In 2000, I was asked to rejoin the Illustration Department as a faculty member teaching primarily 3-D illustration, among other core courses. Cultural Influences: I feel that Mexican art has been a strong influence, especially Day of the Dead sculptures. Their brightly colored, dimensional scenes are a constant source of inspiration . I am also drawn to Russian icons, Hindu scu lpture and the traditiona l arts of Japan. The witty sarcasm of British humor has weaseled its way into my work, thanks to an English mum and much time spent in the United Kingdom .

Environment: In my apartment, I have a separate room to work which becomes filled with the most incredible morning light. My studio has a high ceiling and is plastered with postcards, tear sheets, Christmas lights and business cards . Large sheets of pink insu lation foam, w hich I use to carve from, are attached on one wa ll up close to the ceiling. Under the window is my toaster oven which I use for baking my sculptures . My computer, scanner and printer are nestled into a corner. By the door, is my bookshelf which contains sourcebooks, as well as books on artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle, Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kah lo and Ben Shahn . Philosophy: Despite how cliche this sounds, I have always be lieved t hat people can accomplish whatever they set their sig hts on as long as their heart is in it. Especial ly in this field where nine-tofive doesn't apply and an inconsistent pattern of assignments can be frustrating, dedication is imperative . The ability to orchestrate ideas and execute finished pieces within a constricted time frame is crucial to the success of an illustrator. 1. Fortune Teller, 1999. Self-promotion.
