(Dallas, TX), design firm Northwood Farms, client “Northwood Farms Maple Syrup is a gourmet brand of pure handcrafted flavored syrups. The unique bottle design and identity were developed to reflect the quality of the product.” 2 (series) Colleen Meyer, designer Jay Miller, creative director IMAGEHAUS (Minneapolis, MN), design firm All Seasons Wild Bird Store, client

“This packaging system for the store’s private label seed is unique and follows the brand’s new look and feel. The challenge was to draw bird lovers in with the design but have them purchase for the quality. The resulting designs convey the Wild Bird Store brand, while a distinct color palette conveys the seasonal aspect of the product.” 3 (series) René Clément, art director/designer/ illustrator Louis Gagnon, creative director Paprika (Montréal, Canada), design firm Galerie au chocolat, client “For this series of small boxes created for fairtrade chocolate products, we opted for a simple approach. We used a kraft-like cardboard, printed in two colors and created illustrations with minimal details to represent the different flavors.” 4 (series) Dru McCabe, art director Caroline Duncan/Betsy Jones/Jean Paul Khabbaz/Dustin Wallace, designers Fossil (Richardson, TX), design/client “Inspired by mid-century modern design, the graphics visually display Fossil’s Modern Vintage brand direction.” 5 (series) Mary Ervin, designer Michael Stanard, creative director One Zero Charlie (Greenwood, IL), design firm Atlas Brush Company, client “The Atlas Brush Company offers quality brushes, made from natural and synthetic bristles, for use by amateur and professional artists. The classic typography and silhouette illustration are reminiscent of the early days of commercial art, and the primary typography, Copperplate Gothic, is a timeless typeface designed by Frederic W. Goudy.”

Books 1 Brian Singer, creative director Kevin Kelly, writer Altitude (San Francisco, CA), design firm Chronicle Books, client “One thousand blank journals were sent out into the world. Those who found them added something (writing, drawing, anything they wanted) before passing the journal along in an ongoing, collaborative art form. The book is a compilation of the best entries from 40 countries and every U.S. state. This is an experiment, and you are part of it.” 2 Stefan Sagmeister, art director Matthias Ernstberger/Stefan Sagmeister, designers Henry Leutwyler, photographer Sagmeister Inc. (New York, NY), design firm Harry N. Abrams, client “Astonishingly, Stefan Sagmeister has learned only twenty things in his life so far,” says editor Deborah Aaronson at Harry N. Abrams. “But he managed to publish these personal maxims worldwide, in spaces normally occupied by advertisements and promotions— as billboards, projections, magazine spreads, annual report covers and, recently, as giant inflatable monkeys. Sagmeister throws his diary, design and a little art together with a pinch of psychology and a dash of happiness into a blender and pushes the button.” 7 × 93⁄4 slipcase contains 15 unbound signatures which, when shuffled, produce different covers through the die-cut rendering of Sagmeister’s face.
