Erosion is the disintegration of
subsequent transport of products away by water, wind, or gravity. The weathering and erosion of rock exposures are universal, ever-present characteristics of the Earth’s surface. Eveiywhere we look we see rock disintegrating. We see boulders breaking from
simultaneous process known as weathering. Weathering refers to the spontaneous changes in the physical and chemical charac teristics of bedrock upon exposure to conditions at the Earth's
rock or the reaction of rock of chemical weathering, while the
mountainsides. All these events,
blocks represents a physical form of weathering. Erosion, on the other hand, describes the broader processes of surface degradation in which weathering is an initial
surface. Erosion is relentless, never stops or pauses, and is eternally reshaping the surface of the world around us.
PROLOGUE Dryce Canyon National Park is one of the most photographed landscapes in the world. Eveiyare found in books, calendars, posters, and art galleries. Consequently, first-time visitors to the park usually have some perception of what they will see when they arrive at the top of the escarpment.
