Denso SiC semiconductors
DENSO Corporation announced the development of the first of its kind Silicon Carbide (SiC) inverter. This inverter will be utilised in the upcoming Lexus RZ, the automaker’s first dedicated Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) model, as part of the eAxle, an electric drive module created by BluE Nexus Corporation. A cruise test conducted by BEV using SiC semiconductor inverters under particular conditions indicated that inverters with SiC power semiconductor reduce power loss by less than half of those with Si semiconductor. As a result, BEVs’ energy efficiency improves and their cruising range increases. DENSO refers to its SiC technology as “REVOSIC®,” and it is used to build technologies for a wide range of products, from wafers to semiconductor devices and modules such as power cards. DENSO will contribute to the realisation of a carbon-neutral society by developing more efficient energy management for cars and utilising the funding from the Green Innovation Fund (GI Fund), which was approved in 2022.
