CONNECTING GENEROSITY WITH NEED 2018 CATALOG FOR GIVING
Give online at CFMT.org
Sometimes, in jest, we boast that “all roads lead to Nashville,” confident in our belief that Middle Tennessee may, in fact, be the best community there is … perhaps even in the center of the universe. And while we recognize that claim may be a bit exaggerated, we believe in our hearts that the most discerning people will eventually recognize the quality and convenience we know to be the hallmark of life in Middle Tennessee. But with all of the growth fueled by our civic enthusiasm and the good created inevitably comes some bad. Diseases don’t stay on the other side of the ocean. Our children need to learn to read. We need to appreciate diversity of thought and background, and we need to have the capacity to protect what we’ve had and to build the future we want for ourselves and our children. That’s why The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee is so very compelling. We connect your generosity with community need. Not just today, but for generations to come. Why? Because we share this community. Because the actions of each of us affect all of us. We invite you to join in the work of The Community Foundation. You can create your own fund or add to any of the funds in this Catalog for Giving. They cover many of both our community’s opportunities and needs. Identify what matters to you, and then let The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee help you help others as we work to make your vision a reality. — Ellen Lehman and The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee team
UNRESTRICTED IMPACT FUNDS The Unrestricted Impact Fund provides resources to support great local nonprofits and their solutions to community needs. Your gift to this Fund powers the source of our annual grants, and each year a diverse and dedicated group of Middle Tennessee charities receive help to fuel their work.
Small gifts with big impact. That’s the goal of The Angel Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Have you wondered how your gift of $10, $50 or $100 could possibly make an impact on the needs of the Middle Tennessee community? Through The Angel Fund, a little goes a long way toward making a difference. Consider the veteran who is able to maintain employment with the help of a week-long bus pass for $22. Or the senior living on a Social Security check who can’t afford the $200 repair for a broken heater on a fixed income. There’s the woman who secures a job as a waitress as she reenters the workforce but lacks the $75 to buy the uniform she needs. Gifts of every size make a difference. The Angel Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee enables incredible public servants, or “angels,” working in the nonprofit sector to help people in need. These “angels” invest in critical points in the lives of people they serve, helping them over a rough patch and on to better times.

SAFE HAVEN FAMILY SHELTER used a grant from The Angel Fund to
Unrestricted Impact Funds
OPERATION STAND DOWN NASHVILLE, a nonprofit providing social services to veterans, was able to support 26 veterans seeking or needing help maintaining employment. With a grant from The Angel Fund, this organization provided veterans transportation to and from work with monthly bus passes. They also helped veterans secure driver’s licenses, birth certificates, and work shoes. This support gives veterans a “step up on the ladder of self-dependency.”
transform the lives of a woman and her young daughter fleeing an abusive relationship. A gift to the Fund translated to a work uniform for her new job, help with the initial payment for her daughter’s daycare and help repairing her car engine so she could make it to work. She is now gainfully employed and building a savings.
A grant from The Angel Fund to THE NEXT DOOR, an organization providing recovery support services to women in crisis, helped provide a life-changing experience for 10 Next Door graduates. These women were selected to attend a retreat, allowing them to share stories and inspire other women struggling with newfound recovery. The retreat marked lives transformed for the graduates and prepared them to be leaders in the recovery community. One of the women noted, “I came back knowing that I could lead a group and that giving back in a leadership role was one of the most important things I could do for my recovery.”
Be an angel. Gifts to this Fund are transformative. Consider the difference your gift can make, no matter the size.

Community Initiatives
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES The Community Foundation finds gaps between what the community needs and what existing programs provide.
ACORN SOCIETY The Acorn Society’s mission is to engage, educate, and empower the next generation of philanthropists. It is dedicated to the idea that it does not take great wealth to meaningfully and beneficially impact our community. The member-based Fund holds quarterly meetings that feature a social and educational component focused on an issue area of philanthropy. The goal is to allow members to guide their own philanthropy – based upon their interests – and give exposure to smaller, local nonprofits where members’ efforts might make the most impact.
A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION A Cause for Celebration wants to ensure that every child, even those living in difficult circumstances, knows that they are celebrated. Currently, the Fund provides birthday parties for mothers and children living at the YW’s Domestic Violence Shelter. Contributions of any size are welcome to perpetuate the joy that this Fund supplies.
CHILDCARE MATTERS This Fund supports the work of an alliance of Nashville area independent, early care and education providers, bringing together their individual strengths to develop new solutions that improve the quality, accessibility and sustainability of the services offered to the children and families they serve. For instance, ChildcareNashville.com provides parents a comprehensive tool to find quality affordable care and provides access to job openings for those willing to do this ... work.

A community-wide effort is required so that thousands of Nashvillians can realize the full potential of the digital broadband age. Together hardware and connectivity is the “great equalizer of our time,” as our society’s increasing dependence on the rapid exchange of information makes it essential for the average American to access education, employment opportunities, improved health care, civic engagement, communication and a host of other services. Making access more affordable and available for our community’s citizens is a fundamental tool in the fight to break the cycle of poverty.
NASHVILLE UNITES Nashville Unites, an idea conceived by Bishop Joseph Walker and Francis S. Guess, is an effort to assure Nashville is prepared to respond to some of the racial, socio-economic and neighborhood issues that have affected other cities, by emphasizing civic responsibility, dialogue, and participation.

THE NASHVILLE DIGITAL INCLUSION FUND
NowPlayingNashville.com is Middle Tennessee’s comprehensive arts and entertainment calendar with information about music, theater, sports, dance, museums, kids and family activities, and more. Since its launch 11 years ago, the website has collaborated with hundreds of community partners, providing one-stop information to support arts and entertainment organizations and enrich the experiences of Middle Tennessee’s residents and visitors alike.
OPPORTUNITY NOW Opportunity NOW creates paid job opportunities for thousands of Nashville’s youth and young adults. It supports the next generation as they develop valuable life skills and confidence, while ultimately aspiring for a path to a brighter future. Opportunity NOW’s goal is to empower the youth of Nashville, while providing real chances to learn usable skills that will stimulate the next generation of growth in our economy — benefiting our youth, our businesses, and our city.
THE SOLAR ANGEL FUND Nashville Electric Service (NES) has committed to sustainability by partnering with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Metro Nashville and The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to launch Music City Solar, the city’s first community solar program. Through The Solar Angel Fund, individuals, business, and Foundations can make tax-deductible donations to provide energy assistance through energy efficiency, weatherization or a solar credit for low-income customers. Your gift to The Solar Angel Fund helps to provide a long-term source of funding to support nonprofits addressing the needs of low-income families embarking on home ownership.
THE SPORTS FUND There are lessons only sports can teach. Sports often provide positive and constructive after-school activities, and they can promote and inspire active, healthy lifestyles and lifelong habits among people of all ages, all races, and all backgrounds. Sports and team membership provide: a sense of belonging, self-esteem, hope, and the inspiration of coaches; a source of activity, particularly in those critical after-school hours; and a “hook” to attract kids to nonprofit programs also offering tutoring. Through The Sports Fund of The Community Foundation, Middle Tennessee nonprofits’ providing these opportunities now have a permanent endowed source of funding to ensure their sustainability.
TAPPING INDIVIDUAL POTENTIAL (TIP) The Tapping Individual Potential (TIP) program works with Metro Public School children who have extraordinary talent or potential. Identified by a teacher or guidance counselor, the student’s skill is highlighted and an enrichment experience — tailored to the child — is developed. It may be art classes, science camps, a visit with someone with a similar interest, or a visit to an archeological dig. This Fund helps promote talents or interests for students who may not otherwise have access to these extracurricular opportunities.
