2019 CAPITAL

CAMPAIGN REPORT

2019 GivingMatters.com Capital Campaign Report Since 2007, GivingMatters.com has produced an annual Capital Campaign Report to further the program’s mission of informing and enriching philanthropy in Middle Tennessee. The data in this report is compiled from hundreds of responses to a survey distributed to nearly 1,800 nonprofits throughout Middle Tennessee, as well as from nonprofit data provided in GivingMatters.com. This report intends to: • announce new campaigns to local funders; • give donors an update on funds raised-to-date in ongoing capital campaigns; • provide information on recently completed campaigns; • share preliminary plans for capital campaigns in the next three years; and • note trends over time in Middle Tennessee. A capital campaign is defined as a fundraising effort beyond annual operating or program budgets, which is focused on the purchase of a permanent asset (land, building, major equipment) or a major renovation project. Endowment campaigns may also be part of a capital campaign. Last year, Middle Tennessee nonprofits self-reported 63 campaigns in process. This year’s report includes details from 77 organizations reporting involvement in current capital campaigns. The number of anticipated capital campaigns reported has decreased from last year’s report, to 50 campaigns expected to launch in the next three years, compared to 60 campaigns reported to be in the planning stages last year. GivingMatters.com is an online resource that informs, empowers, and enriches charitable giving in Middle Tennessee. GivingMatters.com furthers the cause of philanthropy in our region by promoting nonprofit transparency and putting nonprofit information at the fingertips of donors, volunteers, and community members. GivingMatters.com is an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, and is supported by the following partners: Aladdin Industries Foundation, Inc. AWC Family Foundation Cal Turner Family Foundation Dan and Margaret Maddox Charitable Trust

Cheekwood launched The Cheekwood Campaign in 2016 to establish the strong financial foundation Cheekwood has lacked since its incorporation. With a total goal of $30 million, we aim to raise $20 million to build our endowment, establish capital reserve and working funds, and address deferred restoration. The additional $10 million will be used to improve the Carell Woodland Sculpture Trail (adding an ADA-accessible loop) and build a Children's Garden, both of which will expand audience access and also increase earned revenue. We have a goal of raising $250,000 to purchase a building, or a piece of property to build a sustainable building. In 2018, we had an unexpected early end to our lease and were given less than six months to find a new home. We launched a capital campaign in order to get closer to our goal of having an asset and investing in our financial future. Davidson The purpose of our Capital Campaign is to raise funds for the restoration of the 1929 RBS Bank building, and to establish a Heritage Museum for our community. Clay, Macon, Kentucky
