udy Lewis, along with her husband Tommy, feels she has her mother to thank for many of the parenting skills which have been invaluable in raising their three boys, Robert, T.J. and Matthew. Judy came to The Community Foundation in July 2000 with a vision and the desire to create a permanent legacy for her mother, Edna Thomas. Edna had been an outstanding parent and, as a result, Judy felt a fitting tribute would be a charitable fund to endow an annual fall lecture series focusing on raising healthy children and giving parents throughout our community the tools to succeed. Each year, in Edna’s memory, the series offers parents practical tips and the wisdom of nationally-recognized educators and speakers.

Team Tootoo Fund

Established 2011

W

hen Jordin Tootoo, who originally hails from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Canada, joined the Nashville Predators in 2003, he quickly adopted Middle Tennessee as his home. To give back to the community that’s given so much to him, Jordin established the Team Tootoo Fund at The Community Foundation with the goal of engaging fans and supporting causes important to him, including suicide awareness. After losing his brother, Terence, to suicide, Jordin wants to educate the public about ways to prevent it. Through the Team Tootoo Fund, Jordin supports nonprofits addressing suicide awareness and prevention, as well as nonprofits helping children and teens in need.

Two Old Hippies Fund

Established 2012

I

n the spirit of peace, love & rock n’ roll, Molly and Tom Bedell created Two Old Hippies, a lifestyle and guitar shop in Nashville that vividly reflects their desire to celebrate living. As hippies at heart, the store is a connection to their roots — a time in the 60s when they were inspired by music and moved to change the world. It also embraces their vision for a world community, where generosity, compassion and equality are a way of life. It’s clear these two old hippies’ passion goes beyond music and merchandise; they’re focused on how we can all make the world a better place. In their words, “If you look at what makes you happy in life, it’s what you give to others.” Through the Two Old Hippies Fund of The Community Foundation, the Bedells can connect with multiple causes close to their hearts and grow their philanthropy in Middle Tennessee.

B & JAM — this acronym is the perfect representation of a young, playful family like the Pattersons. When Brett and Jennifer took the opportunity to convert some long-held shares of stock into charitable resources, they chose to establish this Fund within The Community Foundation which bears the first initial of each family member’s name. Now, the family has a convenient, agile way to support charitable causes near and dear to them over the years ahead.
