THE FOLLOWING NEW SODAS ARE KOSHER even without any Kashrus symbol, in both regular and Zero Sugar:
• STARRY LEMON LIME from Pepsi
• MOUNTAIN DEW PITCH BLACK soda [Limited Edition]. (See below regarding Pitch Black Energy.)
• MOUNTAIN DEW VooDEW 2022 MYSTERY FLAVOR [Limited Edition]
New MOUNTAIN DEW ENERGY PITCH BLACK ENERGY DRINK [Limited Edition] contains grape juice, and is acceptable only when bearing a K or a recognized Kosher symbol, or when bearing the letters XG in the middle of the second line of the inkjet code on bottom of the can. This also applies to other flavors of Mountain Dew Energy and to Mountain Dew Kickstart drinks, which contain grape juice.
ONLINE SHOPPING REMINDER: When shopping online for grocery delivery or curbside pickup, always check the actual label on each item when the order is received. This is essential because many online descriptions or pictures give inaccurate or outdated information regarding the product’s Kosher status. In addition, the store may substitute non-Kosher or non-approved products if the requested item is not available.
One recent example: Great Value [Walmart] regular Tomato Ketchup is pictured online with an OU symbol, but the actual product in the store and that is delivered does not bear an OU.
THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS LABELED WITH A D ARE MADE ON DAIRY EQUIPMENT (“DE”), and may be eaten after meat but not together with meat:
• NABISCO PREMIUM SALTINES - OU-D - all varieties [Credit to Kashrut.com]
• TRADER JOE'S HOT CHOCOLATE STICKS - DARK CHOCOLATE - OU-D
• PAMELA’S WHENEVER BARS - Blueberry Lemon, Cranberry Almond, Raisin Walnut & Spice - OUD (Note: Some packages mistakenly bear a plain OU without the D.)
• CHOCOLOVE DARK CHOCOLATE BARS - Scroll K -Dairy - Those varieties that do not list dairy ingredients [check for butter oil or cream] should be considered DE.
TALENTI GELATO AND SORBETTO FROZEN DESSERT PRODUCTS, which were previously certified by the OU, are now certified by the Kof-K. (The company is using up old packaging with the OUD.) The Kof-K is certifying many Talenti Dairy-Free Sorbetto products as DE; see Kof-K certificate. Note that Dairy-Free Sorbetto Layers Coconut Chocolate Cookie is certified Dairy, not DE. [Credit also to Kashrut.com]
TUMS PRODUCTS UPDATE:
• Only those Tums products that bear a Kosher symbol are acceptable. Most of the certified products bear a Diamond K Pareve symbol; however, Tums Chewy Delights contains milk and is marked as Star-D Dairy.
• Some containers of Tums Assorted Berries Extra Strength 750, Tums Assorted Fruit Extra Strength 750, and Tums Peppermint Ultra Strength 1000 are made by non-certified manufacturers and do not bear a Kosher symbol. Check each container.
• Tums Naturals Black Cherry & Watermelon variety contains carmine color, which is made from non-Kosher cochineal beetles, and therefore bears no Kosher marking.
• Tums Chewy Bites are not certified and bear no Kosher marking.
• RICOLA COUGH / THROAT DROPS: Only the following varieties are recommended by the cRc (Chicago Rabbinical Council). They do not require a certification sticker: Original (Natural) Herb, Honey Herb and Lemon Mint - regular and Sugar Free
SUPREMO ITALIANO canned ARTICHOKE HEARTS from Restaurant Depot bears an unauthorized KVH symbol.
JIM BEAM BARBECUE SAUCES - Original Barbecue, Maple Bourbon, and Smoky Barrel - are no longer certified Kosher due to a processing change, and will no longer bear a Kof-K. Products produced before January 6, 2023 bearing the Kof-K symbol are approved.
FOOD FOR LIFE EZEKIEL 4:9 CINNAMON RAISIN CEREAL: The Kof-K has temporarily withdrawn its certification of this product, even when bearing the Kof-K symbol, due to a Kashrus issue that is being investigated. The Kof-K will issue a notice when it is once again certified.
SIMPLY NATURE CREAMY ALMOND BUTTER sold at Aldi is being produced by two different suppliers, one OU certified and one not. This can result in a mixture on the store shelf, of some jars with an OU and some without. Check each jar.
WEGMANS SALT & PEPPER PISTACHIOS mistakenly bears an OK-P symbol on some bags. This product is certified Kosher and Pareve, but is not certified for Pesach
PLANTATION CANDIES of Telford, PA, under the certification of Star-K and previously under Rabbi Kaplinsky, has had its certification revoked effective immediately due to Kashrus violations. All products manufactured by Plantation Candies, even when bearing a Star-K or Rabbi Kaplinksy’s symbol (a K with the letters nun and bais inside it), should be considered NOT KOSHER

FALLS ON ICE can and do lead to serious injuries. Make sure to shovel your walkway and sidewalk to keep you and your neighbors safe.
OLD FURNACES can omit carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and potentially deadly gas. Make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors on all levels of your home.
COLD AIR can exacerbate heart conditions and asthma and may result in a heart attack or acute asthma attack during outdoor activities. Know the signs and symptoms of heart or asthma attacks and seek medical assistance immediately if experiencing those symptoms.
WHEN WARMING UP your car in your garage make sure the garage door is left open.

best thing about snow shoveling is that you don’t realize how much your body really is working. You start out cold and end up sweating. Once you take the danger out of shoveling snow from safety precautions, it can be a great workout!
Prepare: Since your extremities will get colder than the core of your body, it is essential to have suitable anti-cold attire. Boots with a good grip help to avoid slipping. Prepare for the intensity of shoveling by starting slowly. Gradually pick up the pace.
Technique: Bending your knees is essential, keep your chest high - (not rounded) as you rotate your upper body or as you fold at the waist. Lift and toss while straightening your legs.
If there is too much snow, shovel in layers. Loading heavy piles at once will cause strain and fatigue. Listen to your body and pace yourself.
If you have any discomfort or pain in your chest or feel short of breath, stop and call for help.
Recover: Even shoveling snow in the coldest temperatures will make you sweat. After you have cooled down, change your clothing to avoid becoming chilly. Drink to stay hydrated, even it you don't feel thirsty. Finally, gently stretch your back, arms and legs...then you can feel free to declare: "Boy, I had a great workout today!"
By Sharon Green, CPT1 Tbsp olive oil
1 yellow onion, grated
2 cloves garlic, crushed
3 scallions, chopped
2 (10-ounce) packages frozen
chopped spinach, defrosted
4 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
3 Tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Plain dry bread crumbs
¼ tsp grated nutmeg
2 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
12 oz. small-diced feta cheese
Frozen phyllo dough sheets, defrosted
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
Sauté onion in oil for 5 minutes over medium-low heat.
Add garlic & scallions for 2 minutes until scallions are wilted but still green.
Squeeze most of the water out of the spinach & place in a large bowl. Add onions and scallions. Mix in the eggs, cheese, 2 Tbsp bread crumbs, & spices. Gently fold in the feta.
Place 1 sheet of phyllo dough flat on a work surface with the long end in front of you. Brush LIGHTLY with butter & sprinkle with 1 tsp of bread crumbs. Working quickly, slide another sheet of phyllo dough on top of the first, brush with butter & sprinkle bread crumbs. (Use just enough bread crumbs so the layers of phyllo don’t stick together.) Repaet until you have 4 layers total on top of each. (NOTE: Too much butter drowns out the other flavors.)
Cut the sheets of phyllo in thirds lengthwise.
Place ¼ cup spinach filling on the shorter end & roll the phyllo up diagonally as if folding a flag. Then fold the triangle of phyllo over straight and then diagonally again. Continue folding first diagonally & then straight until you reach the end of the sheet. (Filling should be totally enclosed.)
Place on a sheet pan, seam sides down. Repeat process until filling is used. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with salt, and bake for 30 minutes until the phyllo is browned and crisp.
