Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content... I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am

College Writing Challenges
As author Joshua J. Marine said, " Challenges are what makes life interestingНѕ overcoming them is what makes life meaningful," applied now, are you prepared to overcome the transition from highВschool to college writing? Yes, that transition is tough, but the experience it will give will be totally worth it in the end. In college I will have to grow accustomed to writing about new topics in new styles and explore the different ways I can present my ideas and incorporate them into the paper I am writing. My vocabulary has to grow, for two reasons, which are to keep up a level of interest in the readerВwho wants to read the same words over and over again? and to again express my ideas in the clearest and most effective way. In the transition...show more content... One main difference, though, is that in high school there was only one way taught to play out my argument, in college there are so many different ways I can discuss my perspective. When argumenting for myself, there should not be a sense of, "Here is my idea, take it or leave it," but a sense of me wanting to share my knowledge and opinion for the reader to form an opinion of their own. College writing has been fun, though hard, because of the difficulty I have had changing my process from topic to essay, to essay to topic. Another contrast in writing would be that the arguments I discuss have changed to having a more conversational flow, still a hint of debate in there, but not as forced as you might find in my high school essays where I was just trying to find enough words to fill out the page, despite my point being proven. This topic, however, on the transition between high school to college writing I feel more connected to because I have the ability to make my essay the stand point, not the topic. So far in my barelyВthere college writing experience I've found there has been much more of an open field, with much more room for interpretation of the topic I am given, and I

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

The Benefits of The Internet Thinking about the internet reminds me of something that was said in my history class. My professor was lecturing about the early colonies in America and how the men of that time had to sail up and down coasts in order to make maps. They had to actually draw these landscapes as they saw them. This process would sometimes take years to accomplish. I realized that the technology our ancestors used could today be accomplished in seconds versus years. I have access, at the touch of a button, to maps from satellites miles above the earth. Roswell is a city that I really have trouble with in this area, every building looks the same and all the roads sound the same. If it weren't for the directions that I received in Travelocity.com I would have never made it to pick up my prom dress last year. With school and work filling most of my schedule anything that saves me time is a lifesaver. Therefore I shop on the internet as much as possible. For instance, when I was in high school, I hated having to drive to a book store to acquire my summer reading books. I once spent a whole day searching for one book at several different book stores all over town and the town next to mine; only to find out that almost every kid in my grade, and at every school in the surrounding counties was buying and looking for the same books. All of us were buying out and harassing the clerks for theses books at stores such as Barnes and Nobles, local bookstores such as Jillian's Books, and Walden Books. What a waste of time! There is so much merchandise , like my books, that can be purchased over the internet. E–Bay is also a place where everyday people buy and sell personal items and equipment. My brother, Ben, loves E–Bay because this is where he finds accessories to his 1972 master craft boat which he is re–building. E–Bay has introduced him to a whole new world of shopping. With out it he would still be searching for the limited items that he has

Literature Review Literature About Packaging
Literature Review Packaging: Packaging can be understood in various definitions and provide many functions within itself. In terms of marketers, it is the brand image, packaging represents the worth of the brand and how the brand wants consumer to perceive their products. An attention seeker, stealing the fame on the shelf full of competitors. Packaging also acts as protection for the product. Some are more protected if they're fragile where as some may only be under a clear plastic wrap. High involvement products conceivably need packaging that serves its value distinctively with information clearly stated, while low involvement product could only need colourful imagery on the packet, a logo and a short information of its usage. Underwood et al., (2001) and Underwood (2003) also mentioned another reason to why packaging as become so significant. There is an increase in recognition that packaging can bring out point of differences and disparity of brand identity. There are many factors marketers have to study upon in maximizing its ability to differentiate its brand among the others for consumers to notice. Therefore, it is important to take in consideration how consumers perceive a product when they stand in front of the shelf. The five senses, which are the most important sense to focus on. Things like colours, do consumer take colours of packaging differently when it comes to culture difference? Do consumer retrieve memory of product packaging when its unplanned purchase or incidental purchase? Consumers with different level of involvement, would they view packaging differently? The impact of packaging to consumer buying behavior lies in many

Why do some college freshmen find it harder to write an essay in college than in high school?" College freshmen usually struggle with the transition from high school writing to college writing. Methods I asked ten freshmen students in my class what are some of the difficulties do they believe they face when writing a college essay? It took them five minutes to answer this question. As I suspected, some of the answers I receive has something in common. Some of the students' responses, the difficulties they face to write an essay are grammatic errors, punctuations, sentence structure, and organization. Another key thing to remember is that they have problem with wording the sentences correctly. So, the reader can understand the writing clearly. Likewise, many students have details and ideas on paper. But sometimes don't know how to organize the writing process. Other student said that they have trouble to start the first paragraph and and have a lack of motivation. I t takes them long time to start the essay. Furthermore, some answers were interested. Few students don't want to stress their self. So, they never think to revise their final draft. One of the problems I receive is college vocabulary. One student response that his mind stuck on high school vocabulary and don't know how to use college level vocabulary which make his essay weak. Similarly, I am really struggling with grammar error, sentence structure, run on–sentence, and organization. One other hand, I interviewed three junior college. My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people tend to misunderstand my point if it is written. When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my wonderful work of mental art. The irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a few. I have learned a great deal from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and proofreading of work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism

Analysis Of High School Vs. College Essay Writing
When it comes to essay writing, college and high schools have different approaches during the writing process. In this online blog, "High School vs. College Essay Writing" written by Polina at University language, she argues how colleges write essays and how high school students differ from it. Her argument, compared to the other articles sort of disagree, stating that, "Your writing hasn't changed; college essay writing requirements are simply different than those of high school essay writing" (Polina 2). Entering college there are multiple requirements for writing an essay, "Essays that were getting perfect grades in high school are often criticized in college" (Polina, P. 2). My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned

College: Is It Worth It? Essay
We are told to "go to college" by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it's important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It's also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren't many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they're doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career....show more content... What we get out of the college experience, we use in our day to day lives. Even the things we think aren't important or useful end up becoming helpful. The material we learn in college is fundamental when it comes jobs and life in general. We are taught to make choices. We are taught how the real world works, and how to turn our education into our way of life. "...the really significant education in thinking that we're supposed to get in a place like this isn't really about the capacity to think, but rather about the choice of what to think about." (Wallace 199). Not only do we get a lot out of getting a college degree in what we want to do, but so does our society. There are requirements for every job for a reason. Jobs need people that specialize in just that career field. They want us to be passionate about what we do and more importantly know exactly what we are doing. For example, hospitals have no room for mistakes because not only may it cost a life, it can also costs them money. We feel safer knowing people know how to do their jobs right. College education is necessary whenever there is a shortage in certain careers. It's important to have higher education so there can be growth and competition in our society. It takes money to make money. It does cost a lot to pay for college, but in the end it's worth it. By the end of the college process, we can have a college degree and could be getting

My College Experience Essay examples
My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content... In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

The Dreaded English Class
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in

Pros And Cons Of College Essay
As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student. When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more diversity, and

Reflective Essay on College Writing
Reflective Essay on College Writing This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous
