CRICKET CHRONICLE The Merion Cricket Club
Diving into Summer 2020 The Pool is open! Members will no longer need to admire the Pool from afar. The upscale design and modern amenities are a welcome addition to the Merion experience as members look forward to family and lap swimming, aqua fitness classes, swim lessons and poolside food and drink service. View the Aquatics section of the website to learn more about all of the pool amenities. If you are interested in joining the Pool contact Kim Brady at ext. 202 or kbrady@merioncricket.com. If you’ve already joined, we can’t wait to see you poolside! In addition to being excited about the Pool, members have been enjoying the Great Lawn to a new level this year as tennis and croquet share space with fitness and squash to offer as many outdoor programs as possible. We have also had the opportunity to open indoor dining on June 26, followed by the Fitness Center, the Locker Rooms, Squash Courts and the Pro Shop on June 29. We are thrilled to see that our membership is active at the Club and appreciate your personal support in maintaining a safe environment at the Club. By assuming personal responsibility for following our protocols, together we can help avoid the need for a more restrictive environment. Please familiarize yourself with the detailed information on protocols, located on the home page of the website, to ensure a comfortable experience for all members.
Looking forward to a relaxing summer at the Club!
Dining
Bistro Twenty20 Daily: 11 a.m.–9 p.m (Closes at 10 p.m. Friday & Saturday)
The new poolside restaurant Bistro Twenty20 is incredible! The resort-style setting in the heart of the new campus is the place to be. Outdoor seating, weekly live music, craft cocktail bar, quick casual fare, friendly service, and a vacation atmosphere make this a new unique offering for dining at the Club. Artisan wood fired pizza, fish tacos, smash sliders, and fresh salads are a few highlights from the menu. From the bar, The Deep End is the tequila cocktail of choice, while the Main Line Mule features spicy ginger and mint. Bistro Twenty20 is open for lunch and dinner with table service for a casual dining experience and also features a counter service option for a quick convenient bite to eat. Pizzas and the entire menu is available for takeout. Join us this new exciting dining venue for a summer we will all remember. NOTE: Wine Locker service and bring your own wine is not available at Bistro Twenty20.
What Does Twenty20 Mean?
Yes, it is the year in which the Bistro was founded, however Twenty20 also has particular relevance to Merion’s founding sport, cricket. Twenty20 cricket (or Twenty-20 or T20) is a new style of the game which is full of action and played in a shortened format. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game the two teams have a single inning each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. Together, with first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognized by the International Cricket Council as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about three hours, with each inning lasting around 90 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. This is much shorter than previous forms of the game, introduced as a fast-paced game that would be attractive to spectators.
