The Hillsboro Club Florida
TheHillsboroClubwasestablishedin1925.Originally,thepropertyservedasthewintercampusoftheLakePlacidSchool,aprivateschoolfor boyslocatedintheAdirondacks.Theheadmasteroftheschool,HerbertL.Malcolm,purchasedthe15acresofchoiceland,locatedona peninsulajustnorthoftheHillsboroInlet.Withitswideoceanbeach,itwasanidealspotfortheschool’swinterterm.Atthattime,therewere noroadsorbridgesleadingtotheschool,sovisitingparentsstayedincampusaccommodations.Thefamiliesvaluedtheprivacyoftheremote locationandformedclosefriendshipsduringtheirvisits.WhentheLakePlacidSchoolabandoneditspracticeofconductingitswintersemester inFlorida,Malcolmdecidedtousethepropertyasanexclusivewinterresort,establishinganonprofitcorporation,whichhenamed“Hillsboro Club.”Malcolm’sfondnessforchildrenandhisinsistencethattheyalwayshadaplaceattheresortestablishedawelcomingatmosphereto families,whichcontinuestoday.
