Tim Hortons is coming to Thanet

Thanet District Council have approved plans to build a Tim Hortons at Westwood Cross in Broadstairs, in the same space as Tesco Extra, Currys, The Range and Wickes.

The Canadian restaurant chain currently has 29 venues operational across the UK, and this branch will be the first to open in Kent. The proposed building will be a combined coffee shop/restaurant and drive-through, and will be open from 6am-11pm, seven days a week. It’s thought it will create 30 full-time and 40 part-time jobs. The food at Tim Hortons is more comparable to a coffee shop like Costa or Café Nero rather than fast food like McDonalds; the chain offers bagels, sandwiches, paninis, pancakes, and is famous for its “Tim Bits” – bite-sized donuts that come in a variety of different flavours. It also offers hot and cold drinks. Tim Hortons have pledged to plant ten new trees as well as wildflowers to replace the green space that will be destroyed by the new building, and the official stance from the planning officers is that the economic benefits will outweigh the damage to the environment.
