Northborough – If you are in the mood for delicious Mexican cuisine, whether it is a classic like tacos, fajitas or enchiladas, or something a little bit more adventurous, then you need not look any further than Casa Vallarta, located at 45 Belmont St. (Route 9 West). Recently my husband, Dave, and I stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner. We have been here several times before – it is a tried and true option that never fails to please. The prices are very reasonable and we always leave stuffed and have plenty of leftovers for the next day. Although there were many cars in the parking lot, we were seated right away in a comfortable booth in one of the brightly colored dining rooms by the friendly and welcoming staff. Hot, crispy nacho chips and spicy salsa were delivered to our table while we perused the menu. I decided to go with the El Paso tacos, an entrÊe featuring three soft corn tacos stuffed with grilled chicken, melted jack cheese, caramelized onions and pico de gallo. It was served with freshly made guacamole, black beans, lettuce and tomatoes. They were so filling that I only ate two; my husband had the third one the next day. We concurred that they were delicious. Dave started off his dinner with the black bean soup that also had a nice mix of diced tomatoes, onions, cilantro and cheese. For his entrÊe he chose the seafood enchilada which was two enchiladas stuffed with a blend of shrimp, crab, scallops, fish and fresh vegetables. It was served with rice, refried beans and garnished with sour cream, avocado, lettuce and tomato. Both the soup and entrÊe were excellent, he said. The extensive menu features traditional Mexican dishes such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas, with seafood, chicken, beef or combinations. There is also a nice selection of vegetarian dishes, too, such as spinach enchiladas and veggie fajitas. Specialty dishes include vallarta molcajete, which is skirt steak, grilled chicken breast, shrimp with chipotle sauce, jalapeno peppers and frijoles with chorizo; 7 mares, a Mexican soup with shrimp, octopus, clams, scallops, calamari, mussels and crab cooked in a special sauce with mixed vegetables; and birria de borrego, which is lamb shank marinated overnight in wine and guajillo pepper sauce, to name just a few. For the kids, there is a special menu that features enchiladas, burritos, chicken tenders, cheeseburgers or grilled cheese. They also have live music most nights and often feature special celebrations, such as Tequila Night and Cinco de Mayo. The restaurant is open each day at 11 a.m., until 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. They also offer catering services as well.
