WHO ELSE WANTS TO LOSE 12 - 30 LBS. IN 12 WEEKS OR LESS?
BEFORE
It was time, time to do something about the pounds that have accumulated over the last thirty years. I never thought of myself as an athlete so previous efforts to lose weight usually involved dieting and not enough exercise. Success was often temporary and disappointing. I gathered promotional materials from several weight management and exercise programs and decided to check them out. The minute I walked into Get In Shape For Women, I sensed I belonged there. The clients were women of many ages and the staff was welcoming so I signed up for a trial workout. From there I was hooked. I gave myself a year to get in shape, lose the excess weight and work towards better health. The balanced approach of weight work, cardio and healthy nutrition has helped me achieve my goals. I get inspired every day by my fellow clients. The fact that we are trying to move ourselves to a better, healthier place is our common thread and I value their friendship and support. The staff has guided me through the process, encouraging me and pushing me with expertise and empathy. I have reached my goals for the year by losing 45 pounds and 10% bodyfat. I am now setting new goals. I feel strong and happy, better prepared to face my future. Susan Lippitt, Westboro Age 60
AFTER
When I first came to Get In Shape For Women, I planned to join for fun and did not have any serious intentions of losing weight. Although I was overweight, I never knew what my body was capable of until I began to follow the program. On my first day, Jody and Toni sat me down, looked me in the eye and informed me that if I wanted to join the Get In Shape For Women program, I would have to be completely committed to changing my lifestyle and following all of the principles of the program, including accountability. I decided then and there that I was going to adhere to the program and because of this, I can truly say that I am a new person. I lost 80 pounds within 6 months and have maintained this weight loss for the past several months while gaining strength and replacing body fat with muscle. As I write this, I am 20 pounds away from my weight – loss goal. I have never been this healthy in my life. I FEEL GREAT!!! I am planning a day trip to New York City with one of my daughters and I have no trepidation or anxiety about keeping up with her and her mid-20 year-old friends. They may not be able to keep up with me! Since I have started the program I have lost over 45 lbs, 10% body fat and 12 inches. Another benefit is that my clothes feel great and shopping is amazing! I no longer have the “I’ll fit into these clothes soon/I hope/maybe” selection of clothes, referred to in my house as the “Back of the Closet Store”. Everything fits and what doesn’t fit is too big! In the past, my usual MO (modus operandi) was to get close to my weight or fitness goal, and then not continue with the “plan” or “place”. I didn’t want to afford the money, time or effort when I could do the same myself. Well, needless to say, I never have gotten to my goal. Now, I will get to my goal and stay there. How do I know this? (Especially considering my past efforts, or lack thereof.) I LOVE my “Get In Shape for Women” studio. My trainers, Jody, Toni and Anique, are WONDERFUL! They help me through a plateau, or when I don’t feel like putting in 100% energy into my workout, they encourage me. I leave after my workout feeling AWESOME! I will succeed this year because of them. I am in the BEST SHAPE and weight I have ever been in my life. Thanks Jody, Toni and Anique! Kathy LeBoeuf, Shrewsbury Resident Age 50

The town of Northborough, originally part of the “town” of Marlborough, then Westborough, was incorporated in 1766 and became a full-fledged town with the right of representation at the Great and General Court of Boston in 1775. The early churches of Massachusetts, called “meeting houses,” were the center of all town activity. Built on land given by Capt. James Eager, Northborough’s first Meeting House stood about where the First Congregational Unitarian Church is today, on Church Street. Scattered along the tributaries of the Assabet River, numerous mills serve as markers of another kind, commemorating the places where textile manufacturing and other early industry boomed. Today, in addition to providing the setting for several working farms, Northborough is also host to a burgeoning research and development-oriented industrial park as

Transforming interiors into works of art Décor Custom Interiors offers something no other home decorating showroom has: interior designer and proprietor Usha. “I have customers that I’m doing their third home,” Usha said. “When I go to a home consultation, I am totally into it: [the clients’] psychology, how they’ve decorated. Then I’m committed for the rest of their life... It’s a lifetime commitment.” That dedication to her customers clearly pays off. Usha credits Décor’s success to her own love of interior design. Although she has a degree in chemistry, she has worked in interior design for more than 30 years. “I am so passionate about it,” she said. The showroom reflects that passion, with artwork, furniture and draperies displayed as they would be in a home. In fact, Usha considers Décor both a destination for customers and a version of home for her. “When I come to work, I have come home in the most serene, relaxed place,” she said. “I want a very relaxed atmosphere here. “People will ask me what’s in style. I tell them, ‘You are the style’,” she said. “If it’s your home, if you’re putting your feelings into it, you’re going to collect things over time. You’re collecting the memories of your life. That’s your home.”

Décor Custom Interiors offers the services of experienced staff, including (l to r) owner Usha and Paula Hero.
That knowledge comes not only from years of experience, but also from her feelings about her customers, whether they are in Décor for the first time or have been back again and again. “It’s a matter of respect. I love my customers,” Usha said. “It’s a matter of respect both ways.” Usha can assist with color, fabric selection and overall design. “We have a range of price points,” she said. “I don’t care if you are spending $200 or $2,000.” Décor offers soft window treatments that range from ready-made to custom. Usha also does in-home consultations that can include color coordination, advice about windows, furniture placement, arrangement of artwork on walls and even staging. Also available in the showroom are decorating accents, artwork, blinds, furniture and beauty products. Usha admitted that she alone is not responsible for Décor’s success. Her employees are talented in their own right, she said. “They are wonderful with colors and design,” she said. “My employees, they are the body of my store, and I am the soul.” For the hours of Décor Custom Interiors at 26 South St., call 508-898-3169. Law Office of Carolyn R. Spring Westborough attorney stresses advance planning for families, the elderly WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIALTIES? “My specialties are estate planning for all ages and elder law,” said Carolyn R. Spring, who graduated from Boston College Law School in 1983 and has also earned a degree in certified financial planning. She offers a monthly free legal clinic at the Westborough Senior Center. “I also do financial planning in conjunction with estate and retirement planning. I can give an objective opinion because I don’t sell any products. I help people make a financial game plan then refer them to other professionals.” WHAT LEGAL DOCUMENTS DO PEOPLE NEED? “At a minimum, everyone needs a will, a power of attorney and a health proxy. If you’re older, you need those documents so your kids don’t have to go into court to get permission to deal with your finances or assist with your medical care. “There’s nothing worse than dying without a will, no trust, no power of attorney. It’s a mess. Power of attorney is even more important than a will because it names someone to manage your finances if you cannot do so. “If you have young children, the only way to name a guardian is through a will. If you don’t have a will, the court will decide on the guardian, and your children could end up in foster care if relatives are fighting. You also have to have some type of trust because minor children can’t manage their own money. “I am happy to meet with parents of young children at their homes, because I know how difficult it is to get away with small children.”
YOU ARE WORKING ON THE LEGAL NEEDS OF OLDER WOMEN? “I’m interested in helping older women, whether they are widowed or divorced or never married, navigate the legal and financial minefield. So often many of them have no idea what to do. This interest is based on my personal experience when my mom was widowed in her 60s and had no financial knowledge. My financial planning background combined with my legal background enables me to guide and teach women about their individual situation.” WHAT ELSE ARE YOU WORKING ON? “I have a new website, www.cspringlaw.com, which I’m very excited about. “Starting in September, I have a new television show on Westborough cable, ‘Law for Your Life.’ Each month will feature a different topic with expert guests. Among the topics will be estate planning, what happens inside a courtroom, preservation of the family home, bankruptcy, and real estate law. The police chief is going to talk about what happens if you or your child is arrested.” Carolyn R. Spring

What makes Marlborough Savings Bank (MSB) a Mutual Savings Bank?
What is your view of Community Banking?
Because our bank operates under a mutual savings charter, we answer to our depositors – not to shareholders. We are governed by a Board which is elected by Corporators who are members of the communities we serve. This allows us to make decisions in the best interests of our customers and the future of the Bank.
At MSB, we believe it’s our duty to support our community. Each year we donate thousands of dollars to local charities. Additionally, our employees are connected to these organizations through volunteering and active participation. We live and work here too!
What are the ¿nancial bene¿ts of banking with MSB?
What do you say to people who think it’s hard to change banks?
MSB is known for great, no hassle customer service. Our goal is to serve our customers with the highest Our employees make it a breeze to help customers switch to MSB. Our personal bankers will assist with value banking solutions such as: everything from direct deposit to setting up all of a customer’s bills in bill pay. • Free checking
• Free debit card • Free online banking and bill pay • Free unlimited ATM transactions at MSB & SUM terminals • Free E-Statements or paper statements
What do you do to stay accessible to customers? At MSB, we believe that ease of communication is key. In fact, we have direct phone numbers and emails right on our website… right on up to our CEO. You won’t ¿nd that at other ¿nancial institutions. And if someone chooses to call our main number during normal business hours, they get a live person, not an automated voice maze. This is very unique these days.

Most people would be surprised to know… That a downtown, individuallyy ha owned jewelry store offers such wide variety of cutting edge designs and one-ofa kind pieces. Our customers range from longtime Marlborough residents to our expanding clientele of professional hockey players.
General business description… Joy-Den opened as a small store in 1986 and has grown to become a high end retail jewelry store specializing in fine jewelry and on site jewelry repair. In addition to me, we have a skilled staff who have extensive experience in the industry, including former Joy-Den owner Joyce Marino (26 years), Christine Cuthbert (26 years), Bonnie Sannacandro (19 years) and Mike Sannacandro (16 years). Background… Since I was a young child I have always had a passion for jewelry. Growing up in my family’s business, next to Joy-Den Jewelers, I spent a great deal of time watching Joyce’s business grow and knew I wanted to be part of it. After graduating Hudson High, I attended North Bennet Street School and earned a degree in jewelry making, repairs and gemstones. I started working as an apprentice at Joy-Den at the age of 14 and became manager after graduating college. A major turning point for me came when I had the opportunity to purchase the business a little over six years ago.
* F I N E
I learned the most about running a business … from former owner Joyce Marino and my parents who have run a successful business for over forty years. What makes your business unique or outstanding? The ability to have a customer bring in a sentimental piece of jewelry to be repaired or re-designed without the worry of their heirloom piece leaving our sight. With the original staff of employees, we have maintained a very trustworthy, friendly and honest atmosphere and our five jewelers are all well equipped to satisfy the needs of our customers.
J E W E L R Y
* J E W E L R Y
What is your most popular product or service? There is not any one particular product. Our inventory is constantly growing and changing to keep up with the latest styles, yet we also maintain a great supply of timeless pieces. As for services, customers really appreciate our ability to repair jewelry on site. It could be as simple as fixing broken rosary beads at no charge to setting a $100,000 diamond. What is your specialty? We offer personalized attention and care of everyone that comes into the store. The best advice I ever got was … To put out an excellent product at a fair and honest price and have the customer leave with a smile on their face.
