Red Spring Road residents had requested an overlay district.

By Maureen Sullivan Assistant Editor MARLBOROUGH – An effort to create an overlay district within Red Spring Road is off the table after a City Council vote fell just short of approval. The zoning amendment had been approved by the council’s Urban Affairs Committee and brought before the full council on Dec. 18. As it was a proposed zoning change, council President Michael Ossing said the proposal would go through the four stages of adoption. A vote on the second reading drew seven votes — not enough to proceed — so the amendment was not approved. City Councilor Mark Oram recused himself from voting since he is an abutter. Residents of Red Spring Road, a private way adjacent to Fort Meadow Reservoir, requested the overlay district to help save time and money whenever a resident sought to build an addition or improvement. Currently, the residents need a special permit for such projects; as part of the process, the Red Spring Road | 9

HUDSON – There was a celebratory but solemn mood inside the American Heritage Museum on Jan. 19. On the morning before the anniversary of the Wannsee Conference — the 1942 Nazi meeting that led to the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question” and the framework for subsequent widespread genocide — crowds gathered to remember the Holocaust and commemorate the museum’s latest addition: an original World War II-era Deutsche Holocaust | 5

On Jan. 19, the American Heritage Museum held an induction ceremony for the museum’s new World War II-era German railcar. The railcar is phase one of the museum’s Holocaust exhibit.

Hudson Board of Health, COA, veterans and building budgets approved By Sarah Freedman Contributing Writer HUDSON – The Select Board voted to approve the building, Council on Aging, Board of Health and veterans budgets during its Jan. 8 meeting. All three budgets were part of the 2025 fiscal year’s operating budget. Building budget Building Commissioner Jeffrey Wood said the building inspections budget came in at $331,021. He expressed thanks to the Select Board for getting a full-time deputy building

inspector in Kyle Tucker, an action that was possible with the budget approved last year. He called Tucker “a great asset to our department.” “Things are running much smoother and much nicer,” said Wood. Increases in its budget were mostly due to achieving full-time staffing compared to previous years, according to Wood. He said last year was busy for his staff. With 11 proposed projects, restaurants, condominiums and townhouses on the horizon, there could be even more growth for the town. Select Board member Judy Congdon asked Budgets | 10
