NORTHBOROUGH - Robert E. Melican Middle School sixth grade student Niko Conway is using some of her downtime while social distancing at home during the COVID-19 crisis to make fabric face masks.

To date, Niko and her mom Naoko, have made 10 surgical caps and 65 face masks using fabric remnants they had at home for friends and organizations, including staff members working at various hospitals and medical facilities.

Niko recently teamed up with Tom Lowe, owner of Lowe’s Variety & Meat Market located at 255 West Main Street, to provide face masks for customers who may need one.

COMMUNITYNEWS Northborough residents encouraged to participate in town video festival

By Melanie Petrucci Senior Community Reporter NORTHBOROUGH - What have you been doing during the COVID-19 pandemic? Northborough Cable Access Television (NCAT) would like to know and as such, is seeking residents’ home videos for its first-ever “All In It Together” Video Festival.

The festival was conceived to showcase the many fun and entertaining videos residents have, or will create, these “stay at home” times due to the coronavirus.

“We are trying to get residents to send us videos of all kinds to be broadcast on our station. We are looking for videos of activities that families are doing together. Ideas include cooking shows such as teens making healthy snacks, funny skits, Claymation, children’s activities, music performances, family greetings to relatives,

etc.,” explained Kathleen Dalgliesh, NCAT’s director. “We will be having a ‘Premiere’ night of videos. If there are a lot of videos, we may turn this into a regular event.”

The multiple age categories include: Pre-K through grade 8, grades 9-12, adults, and families.

Other ideas to consider are

a game or movie review show, planting a vegetable garden, a mindfulness session, yoga class, poetry reading and pet tricks “Once we hold our video festival night, which will be announced at a later date, we will be submitting all videos to the Historical Society for their archives,” Dalgliesh added.

“The Northborough Historical Society is happy to be collaborating with the Northborough Cable team to help capture the town’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are looking for any stories, pictures, poems, songs, etc. that people would like to share regarding this unique time in our town’s history. The videos and pictures will be stored in the Historical Society for people to view after this time is done,” added Ken Bennet, the society’s president. .

Those interested are urged to be as creative as possible and of course, be family-friendly (no violence, cursing, cruelty or dangerous activities). Videos should be no longer than five minutes in length.

“Make us laugh, teach us and share with your neighbors how you are using your time while flattening the curve by staying home,” Dalgliesh said.

Helpful hints: if using a

smartphone, make sure that it is horizontal (landscape) and when submitting it to the station’s Dropbox make sure that it is no larger than 2GB. Please verify that all parties present in the video are aware of the video’s purpose and have given consent to it being used by NCAT. Content created by anyone under the age of 18 must be submitted by a parent or guardian.

Mellow Merlot

M

erlot grapes are the second most-planted red wine grape in the United States. Here many of these blue-black grapes are made into single varietal wines rather than used primarily as a blending grape to smooth tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot grapes can be made into juicy, easy-todrink wines that are fruit-forward, with aromas of ripe, sweet cherries, chocolate, and hints of vanilla from oak aging. These low-tannin, mediumbodied wines have silky, sensuous textures on the palate and do not require detailed analysis to enjoy.

Since many Merlot wines lack high levels of acid, tannin, and complexity of structure, aging is unnecessary as wines will not improve with time. Serve them young with casual daily fare.

It is a common belief that you should serve red wines at room temperature.

While this was true in the days before heating and air conditioning, today’s room temperature can actually be slightly warm for serving all red wines, including Merlot. In order to enjoy the full flavor profile of the wine, it is important to serve all wines at their ideal temperature.

really didn’t want to discuss COVID-19 in this article but it seems to be all that anyone can think about. If anyone was going into the office, they would be huddled around the water cooler talking about it. Since everyone needs to stay home, they do the next best thing….huddle around their computers and talk about it (and how we all wish we had stock in Zoom). But then I remembered we are supposed to be approaching the peak of the spring market rather than the peak of the coronavirus, so I decided to shed some light on how the silent enemy is affecting the market…at least for me.

When the Baker Administration reclassified Residential/Shelter Facilities and Services as “essential,” agents across the state breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, according to www.mass.gov/info-details/ covid-19-essential-services, the r uling dictates that essential workers “support food, shelter and social services, and other necessities of life for needy groups and individuals, including in-need populations and COVID-19 responders.”

In other words, unless you have an extenuating circumstance, now is not the time to sell or buy real estate.

The good news is, we WILL have a spring market….it will just be slightly delayed. If anyone is telling you otherwise, you may want to question their motivation and source.

OK, so what if you do have an extenuating circumstance and must buy or sell now? For starters, it is advisable that you hire an agent that can demonstrate he or she is ahead of the curve. If your agent isn’t familiar with the term “force majeure,” for example, you may want to look elsewhere.

Northborough Historical Society seeks coronavirus stories Submitted by the Northborough Historical Society NORTHBOROUGH - We are living through a historic moment as we cope with the raging coronavirus and the dreadful disease it brings, COVID-19. As keepers and collectors of our town’s history, the Northborough Historical Society would like to collect and preserve your personal reflections, daily experiences, stories and photos of this pandemic’s effect on the community and your life.

These memories are history in the making and will give future generations a look back at this unprecedented time in our town, state and country.

If you would like to join us in building this collection, please mail or email your contributions to the society or use the drop-off box at the Archive door, in the ell at the rear of the building, 52 Main St. We will store them in our archive files for years to come.

Postal service asks for help with social distancing Submitted by Patrick Graham, Postmaster U.S. Postal Service – Greater Boston District REGION - During these challenging times, postal employees are working hard to ensure residents stay connected with their world through the mail.

Whether its medications, a package, a paycheck, benefits or pension check, a bill or letter from a family member, postal workers understand that every piece of mail is important. While service like this is nothing new to us, we need our communities’ help with social distancing.

For everyone’s safety, our employees are following the social distancing precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health officials. We are asking people to not approach our carriers to accept delivery. Let the carrier leave the mailbox before collecting the mail. With schools not in session, children should also be encouraged to not approach a postal vehicle or carrier.

If a delivery requires a signature, carriers will knock on the door rather than touching the bell. They will maintain a safe distance, and instead of

asking for a signature on their mobile device, they’ll ask for the resident’s name. The carrier will leave the mail or package in a safe place for retrieval.

We are proud of the role all our employees play in processing, transporting, and delivering mail and packages for the American public. The CDC, World Health Organization, as well as the Surgeon General indicate there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is being spread through the mail.

Northborough Board postpones Town Meeting and Annual Town Election

By Melanie Petrucci Senior Community Reporter NORTHBOROUGH – Northborough is the latest town to postpone its annual town election and annual town meeting (ATM), due to the coronavirus pandemic. Those decisions were made at the April 13 Board of Selectmen meeting, which was held remotely with Town Moderator Fred George, Town Clerk Andy Dowd and Finance Director Jason Little also participating.

The town election, scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, will now be held Tuesday, June 30. The ATM, scheduled for Monday, April 27, will now be held a month later, on Wednesday, May 27.

“We were waiting for the legislature and the Governor to pass appropriate acts that would allow us to effectively postpone Town Meeting…”

Town Administrator John Coderre said.

Under the new legislation passed on April 3 municipalities may move the date by 30 days, thus the new May 27 date. That date may be pushed out even further (in 30 day increments) if need be.

elections to a date on or before June 30.

New Hudson police keeps parents in his mind

HUDSON - Rick DiPersio says his late mother and father supported him throughout his rise through the ranks of the Hudson Police Department.

Now the town’s new chief of police, DiPersio says they’re never far from his mind.

“It’s very exciting,” he said. “It’s something that I’ve strived to achieve. And they knew that. So this is for them as much as it is for me.”

Town officials promoted DiPersio in February, elevating him from the rank of captain to take over for retiring chief Michael Burks.

He secured the job after 23 years of service that seemed to culminate in late 2019 with widely celebrated performance under the pressure of a deadly shooting in town.

As the tragic events unfolded, both Burks and town manager Tom Moses said DiPersio led the department’s initial response and public messaging, leading to an arrest just over 24 hours after the shooting itself.

“This is not an everyday occurrence in Hudson, but you could tell that Rick was trained, prepared and confident to deal with this situation,” Moses told the Community Advocate shortly after DiPersio’s promotion. “Hudson is in good hands.”

This professional success, however, comes within a matter of months of personal heartbreak for DiPersio.

His father, Tom, passed away in 2015. His mother, Donna, then passed just last year.

“They were always very supportive of me and of law enforcement in general,” DiPersio said of his relationship

with his parents. “They always pushed me to never give up on my goals.”

Particularly when he was serving as a patrolman earlier in his career, DiPersio said, his parents contributed where they could. They helped DiPersio’s wife take care of their then young children. They excused him when shifts with the police ate up his holidays and weekends. They cheered him on when the job was stressful or draining.

“When you’re working patrol, you spend a lot of time away from home,” DiPersio said. “They understood what the job entailed and they supported me through that.”

Roughly a month into holding the chief’s position he spent years aspiring towards, it’s hardly been easy sailing for DiPersio.

In early March, less than two weeks after his promotion, DiPersio and the department responded to a mass stabbing at a local bar. That incident rattled a community still shaken from the aforementioned shooting last year, left four people injured, and sparked an ongoing manhunt for a suspected assailant.

Then, two days after that incident, COVID-19 cases swept through Massachusetts, signaling the onset of the now sprawling pandemic that has shuttered much of public life in the area including portions of the Hudson police station.

Through it all, though, DiPersio has called for calm in a variety of public statements, leading what he describes as a quality department all with constant respect and thought for the parents that guided him to this point.

“I know they’re looking down and smiling,” he said.

Hudson educator sews and gives away hundreds of cloth face masks

By Ed Karvoski Jr. Contributing Writer HUDSON – Lots of leftover quilting fabric has been put to good use by educator Michele Fernandes while she’s virtual teaching her Natick preschoolers from her Hudson home. Within the first three weeks of the coronavirus pandemic stay-at-home advisory, she sewed over 600 cloth face masks and gave them away free of charge.

On the Facebook group “You know you are from Hudson if…,” Fernandes posted her offer to sew and give free cloth masks. She personally made home deliveries the first week.

“I felt like people were afraid to go out, and there were some elderly people who couldn’t get out,” she noted. “The response started out a little slow, but word spread within a week.”

Then, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released an updated statement that read in part: “CDC recommends wearing close face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies). CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.”

CDC’s recommendation prompted significantly more mask requests from the public to Fernandes. Her sister and sister-in-law, both quilters, each provided cloth.

A local company donated elastic after Fernandes shared on Facebook that her supply was depleted. She continued fulfilling requests and asked the mask recipients to pick them up outside her home front door.

“I couldn’t make the masks and deliver them, and do my teaching job – there just wasn’t enough time in the day,” she explained. “I feel busier now than when I was working at the school.”

Her virtual teaching is scheduled weekday mornings. The preschoolers’ parents can take part in remote “office hours.”

“The kids love it because they get to see each other,” Fernandes said of the pre-

schoolers’ virtual classes.

“You realize how much they depend on you for their routine every day, and how much they miss each other and depend on that social interaction – and, of course, the parents miss it, too. You don’t realize what you have until you don’t have it anymore.”

At her front door, people have left cloth, thread, fresh flowers and gift cards. While her Facebook post clearly states that the masks are free, some recipients have left cash.

“I tell people that they don’t owe me anything – just pay it forward,” Fernandes stressed. “One woman donated to the food pantry in my name. I’d rather see people do that than pay me. I just want to give masks away and for people to be safe.”

Grafton’s annual Plantapalooza to be held online GRAFTON – In an effort to adapt to the current social distancing restrictions, the Community Harvest Project will be holding its annual plant sale, Plantapalooza, online. The store will be opened Thursday, May 7, exclusively to Monthly Givers and then to the general public May 8.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the project’s development team has been working remotely, the farm staff has learned to adjust to social distancing guidelines while still planting the fields, and the volunteer groups have been canceled until Saturday, June 13.

For more than 50 years, groups of Revolutionary War re-enactors have gathered in Concord and Lexington to commemorate what is now known as Patriots Day with musket salutes on the bridge and marches along Paul Revere’s route. Tonner addressed his fellow members, saying, “We are here to honor Marlborough’s own Robert Eames for his service opposing British tyranny.

We are a country that enjoys freedom and liberty because of men and women like Robert, and I, for one, as a fellow Marlborough townie, could not be any prouder than to be standing here today. It is with much gratitude that we salute you. Huzzah!”

Tonner laid a balsam wreath at the tomb, which he had made himself from the trees located in the cemetery near the tomb.

“I thought it would be fitting,” he added.

Eames was re-interred in the Wilson Cemetery with a ceremony in December after his tomb had needed major refurbishments. The tomb had been overgrown, damaged by the elements, and vandalized, so his remains were exhumed and held at Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home while the city did the restoration. A true Marlborough patriot, at the age of 19 Eames had joined in the French and Indian War, then returned to Marlborough to marry, and have a family.

However, he answered the call on April 19, 1775, to march to Cambridge under Captain Daniel Barnes, and was there for the Siege of Boston. His final enlistment was with the Colonial Army. He had two sons who also fought in the Revolutionary War. Following Tonner’s tribute and laying of the wreath, he and the four other members present, Alan Van Wert, Scott Tourtellot, Chris Tourtellot and John Kelly, fired a volley of three rounds from their muskets. In keeping with the CDC guidelines, the five followed social distancing rules and kept the ceremony short and somewhat private.

“Robert was the real deal.

He fought for freedom from tyranny, and lived, worked, and raised a family in Marlborough. As a fellow ‘townie’ I would love to be able to just sit down and share a pint of ale with him, and listen to all his stories,” commented Tonner.

“It’s a privilege to be able to honor him today.”

“Prevention is really important,” said Niko. “Everybody needs a mask.”

The current plan is to make 25-50 masks per week until materials run out. Each mask is accompanied by a homemade card with a short message and lots of colors. Although there is no charge for the masks, a contribution to the Northborough Food Pantry is encouraged.

“During the quarantine, many are alone,” said Niko.

“The message in the card is to let someone know that they are thought of and for them to stay safe.”

Niko’s parents are both front line workers; her mother is a direct care giver and her father works for the Department of Corrections.

Niko is also a Girl Scout with Northborough Troop 30652, where she has learned how important community service projects are and the positive impact they can bring to people.

COMMUNITYSCHOOLS School Committee to vote on school redistricting for the Fall New elementary school to open on time and under budget

By Vicki Greene Contributing Writer MARLBOROUGH - School Superintendent Michael Bergeron and his administrative leaders presented a redistricting plan for grades K - 5 for the fall at the April 14 virtual School Committee meeting. There were no questions from the public during the call-in public participation portion of the meeting.

The School Committee will vote on the plan at its April 28 meeting.

Bergeron said they received a temporary occupancy permit from inspectors on April 7 for the new $54 million elementary school and the project came in “on time and under budget.”

Landscaping construction is continuing now as planned and the school is ready for the next school year.

Over the past three months, Bergeron has been presenting the redistricting plan to each elementary school Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). After taking into consideration additional feedback from those meetings and from faculty and staff, the final plan was presented to the School Committee April 14.

Bergeron said discussion is continuing, as a result of parents’ concerns about “timing and availability of childcare and an earlier start time at the

new school.” He has reached out to the Boys & Girls Club regarding this issue.

The overriding term and focus during the presentation was “educational equity.” Douglas Dias, District Director of Finance and Operations, explained the District’s partnership with AppGeo, a Boston-based GIS (Geographic Information Systems) consulting firm to develop the map.

“They looked at data including, land parcels, streets, student addresses, grade levels and demographics,” Dias said.

Mary Murphy, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, explained that the team-teaching model will continue and “the K through 4 principals will ensure that they are following the same curriculum at all elementary schools.”

Murphy further explained that there will be an expanded wellness program for fifth-grade students. Fifthgrade students will also have access to band, orchestra, and chorus. Bergeron included the hiring of one band and one orchestra teacher in the FY 21 School budget approved by the School Committee on March 24.

schools whether it concerns equipment or tech support.

He explained that all third and fourth-grade students will have access to Chromebooks and grades K – 2 in all schools will have iPads in carts to use as needed. In addition, Plati explained that Smart LCD screen units will be in every classroom and he hopes to have one in every classroom, in every school, by next year.

Jody O’Brien, Director of Student Services, addressed the special education programs and how services will be provided. O’Brien said the plan is for the current therapeutic center to remain at the Kane School and students would be transported to that

school as needed and the Connections Program, will remain at the Richer School.

The Pathways Program for Autism and ABA students will be split with two teachers at the Jaworek School (Kane students would be transported to that program) and two teachers at the new elementary school (Richer students would be transported to the new school as needed).

Bergeron stressed, as discussed during the budget process, that the district has its “highest elementary enrollment in over 20 years.” In the English Learners (EL Program) “we are servicing over 1,200 students which has grown 85 percent in the past six years,” he said. Bergeron

told the School Committee that they plan to increase EL staff and services that will be staffed “wherever the need is in the various schools.”

The $67.3 million FY21 School District budget was approved by the School Committee on March 24 and sent to Mayor Arthur Vigeant as he prepares his recommended budget for the City Council to review. The budget represents a nearly six percent increase over the FY20 budget due to a significant rise in enrollment and staffing and additional costs for the new elementary school.

By Dakota Antelman Contributing Writer HUDSON - Roughly half of all students got sick. Warnings went home. And custodians spent days and nights watching decontamination mist fill halls and classrooms, settling on doorknobs and tabletops, crayon drawings and markerstained whiteboards.

Now, though, the flu outbreak that suddenly struck Hudson’s Mulready Elementary School in January represents just a preview of the very near future.

COVID-19, after all, hit not two months later.

“We were definitely figuring it out as we went along,” Assistant Superintendent Kathy Provost said of the flu situation.

It started late in the week of Jan. 6. Student illnesses spiked slightly and parents called out a few more children than the average of 11 per day.

Then, Monday, Jan. 13, the situation compounded. Ninety children stayed home. On Tuesday, the number passed 100. A day later, the crisis peaked, holding 123 students, or 47 percent of the student body at home.

“I had never seen anything like it,” Provost said.

Then the coronavirus came.

COVID-19 had infected close to 9,000 people in Middlesex County, killing roughly 150 across the state as of April 3.

Social distancing guidelines and shutdown orders from Gov. Charlie Baker have slowed public life and left many feeling isolated.

Back at the Hudson Public Schools headquarters, a skeleton crew of administrators remain on the job, working with teachers to piece together a remote learning curriculum for students stuck at home at least until May 4.

“This is such a different situation,” Provost explained.

Still, similarities persist.

As coronavirus cases across the country ramped up in late February and early March, district leaders had custodians manually wipe down high touch surfaces and use the same mist machine they used to clean Mulready in January.

That mister is a portable contraption resembling a leaf blower. It’s manufactured by the company GenEon and had, Provost said, been used in smaller situations even before this year when the district noted spikes in noroviruses or other illnesses

According to company advertisements, the mist machine is designed to clean large open spaces like classrooms without the need for copious amounts of harsh chemicals. With the flu, Provost said, its use had immediate results.

“I think [the flu] ended quickly because we were very proactive about what we were doing,” she said. “We were [cleaning] religiously every night...Everything was covered.”

Elsewhere, the district used many of the same outreach plans to communicate with parents in both the flu outbreak and the COVID-19 surge, especially prior to its closure of schools in the latter case.

“We were reiterating the fact that it’s OK if they miss school,” she said, particularly about the

flu response. “We had to really give that message out so that they understood that it was OK. We wanted them to get better.”

In the end, though, Provost reiterates that these situations are far from even being broadly alike.

Notably, as students sick with the flu generally missed less than a week of school, they’ve all already been out of classes due to COVID-19 for close to three weeks.

That’s a fact Provost said the district will continue to reconcile, confident about the ways past experience informed their initial response, but also aware that COVID-19 will last much longer than any health crisis the district has previously seen.

“We want kids to continue to learn,” she said. “It’s just in a different mode right now.”

Crossroads hosts ‘Social DisDance Party’ for World Autism Awareness Day MARLBOROUGH – More than 55 households joined a virtual party April 2, dancing with their families, roommates and pets. Crossroads, a nonprofit organization for individuals with autism based in Marlborough, hosted a “Social DisDance Party,” inviting members of the community to join together in dance over a video conferencing platform. The party was a chance to foster community, celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, and ask individuals to donate what they could to support the organization during the pandemic. The event raised $1,600 in only four days between the event and when it was announced earlier that week.

Music teacher Kayla McLaughlin led the group in a warm-up song with music played through her computer, and then allowed the group to “freestyle” for a few songs before turning it back to Crossroads CEO Mark Dumas, Ph.D., who was also dancing with his family.

Dumas thanked the participants, as well as their Hero Partners, Definitive Healthcare, Hunneman, Middlesex Savings Bank, and Modular Concepts, who have committed to supporting Crossroads throughout the year.

Crossroads is one of many organizations coming up with creative virtual events to supplement their losses during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to losing revenue from cancelled services, Crossroads has also cancelled and postponed annual fundraising events such as the Apex Blue Drinks, Autism Awareness Fitness classes, and their annual 5K and Family Fun Day, which was budgeted to raise $50,000.

The students, who typically

receive 2:1 or 1:1 education, are at home with their families, but the staff at Crossroads is helping students and their families by creating materials tailored to their new homelearning routines and helping parents troubleshoot any problem behavior that is happening as the result of the disrupted routine.

Parents and staff agree, the highlight of the shutdown has been the virtual activities.

COMMUNITYBUSINESS Mathnasium brings fun and confidence to learning skills

By Liz Nolan Contributing Writer NORTHBOROUGH - Gyms offer memberships to keep your body fit. Mathnasium offers memberships to keep your math skills fit. Mathnasium has been expanding across the United States for the last 18 years since first opening in California. Northborough welcomed the newest franchise in Massachusetts on Jan. 6 at 10010-G Shops Way. “The overall mission is to change the way kids think about math,” said franchise owner Pete Nelson. “The Mathnasium Method builds confidence and teaches math to every kid individually.”

Online virtual math sessions are being offered to offer support of skills, help with homework, and structure while at home until the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

After that, students have the option to return for in-center instruction or continue with the Mathnasium@home approach.

Currently, the Northborough location has six tutors on staff who instruct students one on one. Tutors rotate in

a team-teaching approach, which brings different voices and energy to the instruction.

The monthly membership offers students in grades 2-12 the ability to return during the week as often as needed on a drop-in basis. Each workout session concentrates on general skills, test preparation and homework support in a fun, interactive format.

Initially, each student is assessed to get a sense of the current skill level and to identify the areas of strength and the areas where there may be gaps that need to be strengthened.

A customized learning plan is

created.

“It depends on what’s best for them,” said Nelson.

At the elementary level the focus is on numerical fluency, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills.

“It’s not about memorization,” said Nelson. “It’s about understanding the problem and having the ability and strategies to solve it. Struggling kids experience frustration and lose confidence. We build on skills and help them feel good about math, feel confident and get better at it. It’s done in a fun, relaxing environment with

the focus on skill improvement.”

Fractions, decimals, percentages and word problems are highlighted at the middle school level and the high school focus is on algebra, geometry, a mix of ACT and SAT test prep, and keeping up with homework.

“In addition to math instruction and homework support, every session is kid friendly and includes games and activities to keep interest high,” said Nelson. “The whole team of tutors are behind the students. There is a lot of communication with families and teachers, if requested.”

Mathnasium is able to provide a deeper challenge for those students who may want to explore various topics deeper, and will also work with students over the summer to keep math skills strong and prepare

for the next grade level.

Owning the franchise brings Nelson back to his original roots. He is a former high school math teacher. The tutors on staff have backgrounds in math and every instructor has experience as a tutor or teacher. Each participates in a six week Mathnasium training program.

Nelson wants students to know that math can be fun!

An official ribbon cutting for the new location will be later in the spring when the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Her husband, Armen ( Joe) Mikielian, died before her.

Mary worked in the food service industry all her life. She spent her last years living with her daughter, Cheryl Cafarelli, and her grandson, Dominic Cafarelli.

There will be no calling hours or funeral at this time.

Thomas J. Conlin, 84 SOUTHBOROUGH - Thomas J. Conlin, 84, a longtime resident of Southborough, died peacefully April 7, 2020 of heart disease. He was the beloved husband of Janice (Drever) Conlin for the past 55 years.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Thomas M. Conlin and his wife Lee Varban of Arlington, Ellen Graham and her husband William of Millis, and Beth Conlin of Washington, D.C.; his grandsons, Daniel V. Conlin and Cole T. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Alexander F. Garbolevsky, who predeceased her on March 30, 1998.
