Paulhus out as Southborough Police Chief By Laura Hayes Senior Reporter SOUTHBOROUGH - Kenneth Paulhus is officially no longer Southborough’s Police Chief, leaving the job after being placed on leave earlier this year. Town officials have not shared information on why Paulhus was initially put on leave, or why he is now departing. The Select Board and Paulhus did announce this latest news in a joint statement earlier this month, though, describing “a mutual agreement that [Paulhus’] employment with the Town would not continue beyond May 31.” Paulhus, town agree to settlement The statement, which was agreed to by the parties, said that the board and Paulhus had reached a written agreement to address the balance of “certain contractual benefits under his existing Employee Contract” with Southborough. The town later released the text of that agreement in response to records requests, showing that, upon the execution of the agreement, Paulhus would submit his notice of retirement as chief. He will receive a lump sum of $68,658.33, which amounts to five months of his base wage. He will also receive pay for 48 hours of vacation leave amounting to $3,802.56. Police Chief | 13

Pride rally held at Westborough Rotary By Laura Hayes Senior Reporter WESTBOROUGH - Cars honked while driving through the Westborough Rotary on Saturday, voicing their support for residents rallying for LGBTQIA+ rights. Coinciding with LGBTQIA+ Pride Month this month, the pride rally was organized by Pride Allies of Westborough. “Visibility is just so important,” organizer Amy Glennon said. Glennon, who is also a teacher, said that she’s read about ways that the presence of support groups for children in schools who identify as LGBTQIA+ — even if students don’t come to meetings or events — decreases suicide rates. “Just knowing that there are people in their lives and in their communities that support them is really powerful stuff,” she said. “So that’s why we’re here.” According to Glennon, Pride Allies of Westborough is mostly a parent group, though it does include some advocates and allies in the community. The group was formed within the past year and seeks to provide support. “A lot of parents come because maybe their kids have come out as trans and they’re looking for more information,” Glennon said. “[We’re] just helping parents connect with other parents who can help them out with that.” See additional photos online at CommunityAdvocate.com.
