Hudson Police host first National Night Out
Hudson Select Board weighs lowering Town Meeting quorum

By Stuart Foster Reporter HUDSON – The quorum for Hudson’s Town Meeting may be lowered from 150 to 75. Town Clerk Joan Wordell brought a proposal before the Select Board on July 25 to see if they would put an article before Town Meeting to lower the Town Meeting quorum. She noted several positives for lowering quorum, such as allowing Town Meeting to start earlier, run more efficiently and ensuring that Town Meeting would not be affected by people who attend for one article and then leave. “Keeping the quorum at a greater number than 75 runs the risk of delaying Quorum | 7
HUDSON – Hudson joined forces with thousands of communities nationwide to host the town’s first National Night Out at Riverside Park’s baseball field Aug. 2. Designed to strengthen a partnership between law enforcement and the public, National Night Out was founded in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). Since then, the national event has been held annually on the first Tuesday of August except for some communities’ cancellations in recent years due to pandemic restrictions. As stated on NATW’s website, “National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. ride is a fundraiser for the SJL Memorial Scholarship Fund. George Larassa established the fund in memory of his daughter Shawna, who died from a vehicle accident at age 19 in 2009. Larassa expressed appreciation for the fundraiser’s ongoing supporters. SJL Ride | 13
