By Maggie Locher Contributing Writer Region – The Manor is many things. On a casual night, you could hang out in the cozy bar and watch the game. If you want a great meal in a more intimate setting, The Manor has an elegant dining room with a fireplace. Or if you’re having a party, The Manor is a function hall, with rooms that can fit from 45 up to 400 guests. The staff was preparing for a surprise birthday party in the smaller function room and an engagement party in one of the larger rooms when I arrived with my boyfriend early on a Saturday night for dinner. We were seated at a comfortable booth in the dining room and our server took our drink orders right away, leaving us to review the extensive menu. The list of appetizers included standard pub appetizers like fever wings ($7.99) to a Greek sampler ($9.99) and clams aglio e olio ($8.95). We ordered two appetizers: a plate of baby back ribs ($9.99)

that truly did fall right off the bone, and a plate of rice and beef-stuffed grape leaves ($11.99). It was hard to eat just a little bit of each as we also enjoyed homemade olive bread dipped in oil with feta. It was nearly impossible to choose an entree because there were a dozen options under each of the menu headings: steak, poultry, Italian, seafood, Greek and burgers. The hostess informed us that the baked haddock ($13.99) and the prime rib are The Manor’s bestsellers, but also recommended the lamb dishes and the Barramundi ($13.99), if we’d never had it before. Barramundi is a Greek dish: white fish with garlic lemon butter sauce, served with sautéed spinach. I had never had it, so that is what I ordered. My boyfriend went with the rack of lamb ($22.99). Both dinners came with a side salad (we requested the Greek salad, which comes with homemade dressing) and a side of potatoes or rice or vegetables. The service at The Manor was terrific – our server was pleasant, always available, but not intrusive. The meals were fresh, carefully made and flavorful. Although we managed not to eat too much of the appetizers, we couldn’t keep from eating all of our dinners. When our server presented the dessert tray, the options all looked enticing but we were stuffed. We ordered a piece of Italian lemon cake to take home. A few hours later, it made the perfect light and fluffy end to a wonderful meal. The Manor will be participating in Restaurant Week Tuesday, March 20, through Saturday, March 31. During that week, they will offer a four-course meal for $23.12 per person. Following
the soup and salad courses, entree choices include filet mignon wrapped in bacon, crab baked salmon, chicken Gina or chicken cappellini, shrimp & scallops fettuccine, or a New York strip steak with peppers & onions. Dessert is the final course. The Manor is located at 42 West Boylston Street (Route 12) West Boylston. Visit www.ourmanor.com or call 508-835-4722 for reservations and to book functions. The Manor is closed on Mondays.
