Benefits of Community Gardens Community gardens improve the quality of life for people that use the garden. It provides a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, stimulates social interaction, encourages self-reliance and helps beautify neighborhoods. Community gardens produce nutritious locally grown food. They reduce family food budgets and conserve resources. Community gardens promote recreation, exercise, therapy, stress-reduction and education. Having a community garden can reduce crime and preserve green space. These gardens are also an excellent way for a community to provide opportunities for intergenerational and cross-cultural connections. Source: American Community Garden Association
