epartment of Public Works Director John Westerling, appearing before the Select Board at its Oct. 19 meeting, provided an update on the issue with level of contaminants in the town’s water supply, indicating that another test showed even higher levels. “The second round of PFAs testing showed that we still exceed the maximum contaminant level of 20 parts per trillion,” he said, later sharing the level went from 20.7 in the first round of testing to 24 this time. “So we have one more month’s worth of testing, and if we’re found to be then still above, then it kicks us into another category of criteria that we have to meet.” Westerling said the DPW has received numerous calls and emails from residents since the initial test results were shared with the public, and there are two primary questions.

n a 3-2 vote, the School Committee last Thursday decided to adopt a trial period during which time COVIDvaccinated students at Hopkinton High School can remove masks inside the building. The trial period will run from Nov. 1-19. The mask mandate will resume on Nov. 22 in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday and travel. The trial period was suggested by Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh, after the state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) approved Hopkinton to lift the mask mandate based on its high vaccination rate

After a long and emotional discussion at its meeting last Thursday, the School Committee voted to hold a mask-optional trial period at Hopkinton High School in November.
