he town announced Oct. 27 that in response to concerns about a stretch of the recently reconfigured Main Street being too narrow to allow for emergency vehicles to pass through traffic, the road was to be widened. The portion of Main Street affected runs from Commonwealth Avenue to Mayhew Street and from Summer Street to the Fire Station. “In September, the town began having internal discussions regarding these stretches of the roadway,” a press release from Town Manager Norman Khumalo read. “Concerns were that, as currently constructed, these sections of the road may be too narrow for certain public safety vehicles, particularly fire engines, to easily navigate the road in the event of an emergency if other vehicles were pulled over on both sides of the road. “The construction plans call for the narrowest portion of these stretchMain Street | 10

opkinton High School athletic director Kiley Murray thought this was going to be a relatively quiet part of her schedule with the fall regular season having wrapped up and winter sports still a few weeks away. But the HHS fall sports lineup produced one of the best seasons in recent memory across the board, with league titles and huge turnarounds in a slate that saw the Hillers put nearly every team in the postseason. Instead of a lighter schedule, Murray has been busy making sure teams are able to secure turf space for practices and scrimmages ahead of their tournament tilts.
