he voters who showed up to Town Meeting May 2-4 at the Hopkinton High School Athletic Center were an agreeable sort, helping move through the 53 articles quickly and efficiently — despite multiple delays due to the lack of a quorum that extended Town Meeting to three nights. The town’s $104 million budget passed unanimously. Following some discussion, the town’s plan to connect to the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority water supply as part of the remedy for the PFAS issue received strong support. The Lykan tax increment financing (TIF) agreement passed unanimously. A replacement turf for the Fruit Street fields passed with little objection; it also required approval at the May 16 Town Election. (The election occurred after this paper went to print; check HopkintonIndependent.com for updates as well as for a complete list of the Town Meeting articles and voting results.)

he NFL Draft had come to an end April 30 when Josh Sokol received a call from his agent asking whether he would be interested in signing with the Minnesota Vikings. The 2016 Hopkinton High School graduate thought he might be getting an opportunity to go to Minnesota’s rookie minicamp, and said he would be interested. About a half-hour later, Sokol’s cell phone rang again. “[A team representative] called me and said, ‘Do you want to be a Viking?’ ” he recalled. “I said, ‘Absolutely,’ and that was about it.” Sokol described the entire moment as “surreal,” and his head was so in the clouds that he still can’t quite remember who it was on the other
Hopkinton’s Josh Sokol (75) is trying out for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings after a standout college career as an offensive lineman at Sacred Heart University.
