District, teachers take negotiations to 11th hour By Sandy Quadros Bowles Contributing Writer

he school district and the Hopkinton Teachers Association continued negotiations late last week, seeking to finalize a deal just days before school was scheduled to reopen on Sept. 16. A tentative memorandum of agreement (MOA) had been agreed to early last week by leaders from the two sides. The School Committee scheduled a meeting for Sept. 10 in the hopes that it could vote on the pact following the HTA’s approval. However, the HTA did not move it forward at its meeting on Sept. 9. “There was a tentative memorandum of agreement in place. That has not been approved at this time. So we are still working with the HTA,” superintendent Carol Cavanaugh told the School Committee at the Sept. 10 meeting. “Hopefully we’re going to be able to come to some resolution. We are meeting with them [twice on Sept.

Town Meeting delays solar map, passes budget

t Saturday’s Town Meeting residents elected to delay a vote on the Planning Board’s commercial solar map, support the taking of Legacy Farms Road North as a public street, and approve the Fiscal Year 2021 operating budget. Sunny skies and cool temperatures greeted the approximately 225 residents who turned out for the two-hour morning meeting, held under a tent outside Hopkinton High School, with social distancing rules in effect. “Isn’t it a spectacular morning?” town moderator Tom Garabedian
