Research shows that violence against emergency services workers is reason ably common. According to the ‘Assaults on emergency services workers’, NSW’s Sentencing Council’s July 2021 report, the number of recorded offences which come before the NSW criminal justice system is modest, with incidents being heavily under-reported.Evenamong those reported, several challenges make it difficult to track the outcome of those offences through the criminal justice system. Available data show that rates of assaults too vary across categories of emergency workers. While police officers, ambulance officers and health workers face maximum assault, firefighters and rescue workers experience comparatively low rates of Significantly, violence.the new bill is part of the NSW government’s response to the NSW Sentencing Council’s report. It is committed to strengthening criminal law protections for the frontline emergency workers. Significantly, firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, pharmacy staff, community health workers, NSW State Emergency Service frontline workers and other specified emergency workers will also be covered by the new Bill.

F

RONTLINE emergency workers across Parramatta can look to heave a sigh of relief. A new Bill promises to hand out tougher penalties to offend ers who hurl assaults at them. The Bill is important as it ensures that assaults and other violent acts against emergency workers are better recognized and appropriately punished.

PROTECTING LINE WORKERS

FRONT

At the peak of Covid, a very distress ing incident was logged with the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association – an ICU nurse with her scrubs on, was al legedly assaulted upon boarding a train.

Tougher penalties for offenders

The horrific tales Not too long ago, a nurse in the West ern Sydney had to bear the brunt of an assault in the form of facial fractures. Media reports around the same time brought to notice that six staff mem bers had been assaulted in specialized aged care units in a span of three weeks, which included two pregnant nurses being punched, one also being reportedly choked and a security guard kicked while on duty.Thesituation was so horrific that the staff had to resort to staging a rally outside Blacktown Hospital to raise awareness.

EMERGENCY

The ‘Crimes Legislation Amendment (Assaults on Frontline Emergency and Health Workers) Bill 2022’ was intro duced by the NSW government to Parlia ment on August 12, 2022. Presenting the Bill, Attorney Gen eral Mark Speakman said ‘every per son should be able to feel safe in their workplace, including health and emer gency services workers who perform an essential public service for our communi ty, in difficult circumstances and often at personal risk’.

Scattered media reports pointed at nurses working at Blacktown, Westmead, Royal North Shore and Queanbeyan – all being forced to put up with abuse while out in public, either at shops or super markets, during that time. A pregnant midwife in western Sydney was verbally abused and told that she should not be out spreading Covid, while at a fast food outlet.

“This is one of the largest strate gic conservation plans to be undertaken in Australia, setting the standard for streamlining development processes in growth areas, without sacrificing essen tial conservation considerations,” Mr Roberts“Thesaid.CPCP will provide all the neces sary state biodiversity approvals upfront for more than 11,000 hectares of land. Having those approvals in place from the get-go for landholders will result in more homes being built faster.”

As part of the finalisation, a ‘What We Heard’ report has been released pub licly, summarising the feedback received during the exhibition period. In total, the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan has 26 commitments and 131 actions which, by 2056, will see the protection of more than 11,500 hectares of conservation land, including connection, restoration, and preservation of at least 5,325 hectares of threatened native vegetation, to offset development impacts.

For more information about the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan, visit: nsw.gov.au/cumberlandplainconservationplanhttps://www.planning.

Minister for Environment and Heri tage James Griffin said the plan was the first strategic biodiversity certification under the NSW Biodiversity Conserva tion Act “Western2016.Sydney is home to an incredibly diverse variety of plants and animals, including one of the state’s healthiest koala populations, as well as some rare species only found in the Cum berland Plain, such as the Cumberland Plain Woodland and the Cumberland Plain Land Snail,” Mr Griffin said. “This plan is an important step in en suring the long-term protection of these species, working alongside the programs in the NSW Koala Strategy to conserve local biodiversity values. “The plan has now been submitted to the Australian Government and, if approved, federal biodiversity approvals will be provided up front as well to re duce the administrative burden on local development.”Thefinalplan incorporates advice provided by the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer, regarding the protection of koala populations. This includes establishing koala corridors, restoring habitat, installing exclusion fencing, and constructing two crossings to enable koala movement across Appin Road.Italso includes a dedicated reserve to be managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, to protect and re store up to 1,830 hectares of koala habitat along the Georges River, with the first land dedications having already been made in April this year.

In times of stress This policy will typically allow for an expletive dropped in casual conversation or at times of stress, but it should also state the grounds for disciplinary action or even dismissal.

The number one grounds for dismiss al is swearing at a customer. In a recent court case, the court rejected an em ployee’s unfair dismissal claim against a Sydney motor dealer. The employee was terminated after he swore at a customer and the court upheld the decision be cause customer service was a key part of the employee’s job.

The court decision said: “his conduct threatened the profitabil ity and reputation of the busi ness”.Another case involved an employee who swore at his man ager using “extremely crude and profane language in threatening manager and had caused his man ager to become fearful for his own safety”.The worker was terminated and he sued for unfair dismissal, but the court rejected his claim and said: “there is a qualitative difference between swearing in the workforce per se and swearing direct to one’s manager or another employee which is not only offen sive but highly personalised”.

A Swearing Policy involves em ployers as well as employees and adhering to that policy allows you to control the culture you wish to cultivate.Employees take their cues from their supervisors and if a manager swears in front of employees regu larly, employees may be believe it is okay for them to swear as well.

You're less likely to be

promoted

WE have all been guilty of drop ping the magic word when under stress at work, but did you know that excessive swearing may cost you a promotion or even your job? In this day and age of swearing being commonplace and accepted in the com munity, it is not okay to swear at work.

Employers should also crack down on poor language as it has the potential to offend workmates and may be seen to be condoning behavior which could amount to bullying.Swearing dismissals are more commonplace than you may think. The Fair Work Commission hears countless claims and many workers have had their protests upheld. The FWC takes into account the context in which the words were used, the swearing culture of the workplace involved, what was actually said and the tone or manner in which the employee said it. So, before dropping the magic word at work, you need to think long and hard about the repercussions involved and whether your use of bad language is harming your progress.

MAGAZINE INSIDE FitnessTrendsFilmsMindsetTravelCrosswordsAutoProperty WEXPO coming soon to Blacktown Workers Club www.wexpo.com.au | Stall enquires: info@wexpo.com.au DANGERS OF SWEARING AT WORK

„ DALLAS SHERRINGHAM

Research by PCC Employment Lawyers revealed that 57% of employers say they would be less likely to promote someone who swears as it calls their pro fessionalism into question, demonstrates a lack of maturity and control and makes the employee appear less intelligent. This is despite the fact that employ ers are not entirely innocent, with 25% admitting that they have sworn at their employees.Withtoday’s new wave of young workers, Generation Z, being the first age group born and raised with the internet and social media swearing has become commonplace in society. And young women are just as likely to drop the magic word as the young bucks, which is another unique feature of this new generation of employees.

Some workplaces now accept swearing as a pat of the modern vernacular, even encouraging its use to emphasise an argu ment or express excitement. In other workplaces, swearing may be seen as highly offensive, particularly around co-workers or clients. This inevitably will lead to disci plinary action being taken against the employee who crossed the line. Interestingly, since the increase in work-from-home arrangements during the past two years, a number of formali ties have been done away with at work. A recent survey by Sentieo showed a “number of workplace formalities have been done away with and swearing at work has increased by 60%”. Management team in particular have taken to using stronger language in the workplace.

It has led to many companies im plementing a Swearing Policy to put wayward employees on notice, but even the Policy can be complex. The Policy typically takes into ac count the context in which the employ ee used the expletives. The context, type of words used and the audience are all important factors in determining whether the swearing was inappropri ate,PCC Lawyers said it was now im perative that employers have workplace policies in place to regulate the use of ‘language’.

KATA TJUTA a.k.a THE OLGAS Millions of people visit Uluru and drive all around it taking photo after photo of sunrises and sunsets, but few make the half hour journey out to this fascinating place. I always say: “Kata Tjuta is what Uluru was like before the tourist hordes arrived”.There is no human intervention there, it is just an isolated place where the only sound is the hot westerly breeze blowing in from the Gibson Desert. There are some superb walks at Kata Tjuta, most of them passing through the aptly named Valley of the Winds which is a huge pass between two of the domed mountains.Thosewho visit and take a walk often say they enjoyed it more than Uluru because of the quiet solitude.

GULGONG Mudgee is the most popular desti nation west of the Great Dividing Range for many Sydneysiders. However, just a 20 minute drive north west of the Shiraz capital is the little historic town of Gulgong. Many of the old buildings have been retained including the shops that were featured on the original Ten Dollar note. The beautiful old Opera House still hosts shows and the town museum is superb. The normal accommodation outlets are available and there is even an excel lent golf course available. Henry Lawson walked these streets as a young boy growing up in Eurunderee, just out of town and many of the char acters in his stories and poems are based on local identities.

DUNDULLIMAL HOMESTEAD If you are visiting Dubbo and the Western Plains Zoo, take a detour to Dundullimal Homestead, which is be lieved to be the first homestead west of the Macquarie River. The homestead was built in 1842 by John Maughan and is owned by National Trust of Australia, NSW branch. It was added to the NSW State Heritage Regis ter in 2002 and is listed on the) Register of the National DundullimalEstate.isanAboriginal word meaning “thunderstorm” or “hailstorm” and was the name of the local Aboriginal group.Built around as the head station of the surrounding 6500ha squatting run, the Dundullimal homestead is believed to be the oldest surviving slab hut house in Australia.Thehomestead is also Dubbo’s oldest building open to the public. Its interior is relatively sophisticated for its type, with an imposing sitting room and is noted for its tent-shaped plaster ceiling, and wall paper reproduced from an 1850 pattern. The house is furnished with original period furniture. The working areas in clude sandstone stables, the blacksmith’s forge, coach room, sunken cool room and stores. This complex of buildings reflects the practical elements of rural life on a large, isolated property during the nine teenth century.

LIGHTNING RIDGE: The legendary opal capital was once an isolated village of tin shacks set amongst piles of white gravel with a pub and a couple of shops. All that has changed in recent years and ‘the Ridge’ is now a modern vibrant town with tarred streets, an Olympic Swimming Pool and an excellent range of accommodation.Itisaneasyone hour drive from Walgett out on the Barwon River which in turn, is eight hours from Sydney. Good motels, bnb’s and even a Big Four Caravan Park are available. The Lightning Ridge Outback Resort adjoins the town caravan park. From fossicking for opals to admiring sculptures in an underground cave and relaxing in naturally-heated springs, the Lightning Ridge area offers a bounty of memorable experiences against the back drop of the majestic Outback SILVERTON; Broken Hill is the main stopping off point for travellers heading west from Sydney. The little former mining town of Silverton is just a half hour drive from the Silver City, but many visitors miss it. This is despite the fact that Silver ton has featured in hundreds of movies including the iconic original Mad Max movies.Atthe Silverton Hotel, the heartbeat of what remains of the town, photos of the casts and production crews are proudly displayed around the walls of the old Aroundpub.the town, leftover vehicles from the movies are now sculptures and there several galleries worth a visit. And just outside of Silverton are the Mundi Mundi Plains where iconic scenes from Mad Max 2 were filmed. Walk to the top of the lookout and see the vast plains stretch out as far as the eye can see for hundreds of kilometres. The view is so clear you can even see the curvature of the earth. It’s particularly spectacular at sunset.

„ DALLAS SHERRINGHAM OUR release from the restraints of the pandemic has led to millions of Australians suddenly hitting the road looking for new adventures. With overseas travel still under a cloud and hefty increases in the cost of travel insurance and air fares, Aussies are reconsidering their own country as a priority travel destination. In years gone by, “see Australia first” was a popular saying but that was before the cheap international airfares of the early 21st century. Now the “Around Australia” concept has led to hundreds of web sites and social media pages devoted to everything from camping beside a creek on a farm to cruising around in a million dollar Winnebago.Alotofus love to discover new places off the beaten track and have grown tired of going to same place every year. I’m in this demographic, going out of my way to discover and photograph hid den gems out in our own vast backyard.

PALM COVE; Many visitors to North Queensland miss Palm Cove as they drive from Cairns to Port Douglas and the Daintree Rainforest beyond. This modern ocean side resort town is the most beautiful beach in FNQ and to me it is much more attractive than the ‘tinsel town’ of Port Douglas. You can sit under the palm trees and enjoy breakfast or lunch or go to the beach for a cooling swim. The famous pier at Palm Cove juts out into the Coral Sea for several hun dred metres and is a great spot for fish ing or a gentle stroll. The view at sunrise is sublime.PalmCove has a vast range of accom modation, but my favorite spot is the NRMA Caravan Park next to beach and adjacent to the pier. My favorite event is the ukulele con cert and singalong on Sunday afternoon.

Loved Lake Como? Then visit Lake Braies or Lake Orta Ask anyone about Italy’s most famous lakes and they’re likely to mention the villa-lined playground of the rich and famous, Lake Como or Lake Garda, yet some of the country’s other lake and alpine districts are often overlooked…but shouldn’t be. Lago di Braies, or Lake Braies, is a breathtaking lake with UNESCO World Heritage Site billing in the heart of the Dolomites in South Tyrol. Known for its crystal-clear water and dramatic moun tain backdrop, it’s best explored by hik ing the perimeter trail or renting a boat for a picturesque paddle with a picnic.

„ TRAVEL EDITOR SHERRINGHAMDALLAS AS the return to international travel takes off, Italy is the number one destination for many Australians heading back to Europe – with 52% of those ready to travel planning a visit soon. First time visitors will soak up the usual tourist hotspots like Rome, Flor ence, Venice and Tuscany, however for returning-visitors and those looking to discover a slice of real Italy beyond the usual tourist hordes there are some great alternatives.Yousee, repeat visitors, and those who prefer the pioneering to the popular, are swapping established tourist hotspots for alternative and underrated gems full of charm, character and color. By embracing this ‘secondary travel destination’ trend, visitors can visit a much-loved destination and extend their stay for a more immersive Italian experience from the top of the boot to the tip. So go beyond Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuscany, and the Amalfi Coast on your next Italian adventure with these destination swaps to get you started… Loved Venice? Then visit Chioggia Just a hop, skip and jump from the hustle and bustle of Venice, Chioggia is a quieter town with the same vibe you know and love. Situated on the southern side of the Venetian lagoon on the Adri atic Coast, Chioggia is home to charming canals, colorful historic buildings, and boats and bridges galore best explored on foot. Loved Capri? Then visit Procida If you’ve been captivated by the color, cuisine and photogenic beauty of Capri, then you’re bound to fall in love with Procida, a tiny island nestled between Ischia and Naples which made an inter national name for itself as the filming location for ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ and is Italy’s reigning Capital of Culture. Combining coastal walking trails, mouth-watering Napoli pizza, histor ic buildings such as the Abbazia San Michele Arcangelo, fishing villages, and more than its fair share of traditional bakeries, Procida is gorgeous rather than glamorous and much less chaotic than Capri in peak season – although it does get crowded with Italian holiday makers during August. Loved Rome? Then visit Ostia Antica, Matera, Bologna, or Verona If you’re enchanted by the rich his tory and ancient architecture of Rome, you’ll be fascinated by Ostia Antica, where the ancient ruins are said to be better preserved than Pompeii. In southern Italy, Matera in Basili cata is utterly unique and a bucket-list destination for those fascinated by his tory. Home to the world-heritage-listed ‘Sassi di Matera’, a series of intriguing cave dwellings cut from rock dating back 30,000 years, the city’s narrow alleys are best explored on foot Bologna in Emilia-Romagna is known as Italy’s food capital, with a café and restaurant scene rivalling Rome, as well as its fair share of historic icons, including Europe’s oldest university and countless buildings boasting porticos. This is the spot to taste handmade tor tellini and tagliatelle al ragu, or to take a tasting tour of the Quadrilatero market district, collecting cheese and cured meats along the way.

Discovering the secret Italy

Over in Umbria, atmospheric Orvieto is home to a magnificent gothic Duomo, artisan boutiques peddling hand-painted ceramics and an incredible underground city, while Castelluccio boasts glorious views over the Apennine Mountains and fields of violets and poppies during spring.Sitting pretty alongside Umbria is Le Marche, a lesser-known region which de serves to be discovered. Combining tur quoise waters along the Adriatic Coast, rural landscapes waiting to be painted, scenic Monti Sibillini National Park which is beloved by hikers, and historic walled villages where visitors can take a step back in time to experience authentic local Italian life. In Piedmont, Langhe boasts Tus can-style rolling landscapes covered in vineyards with petite villages clustered on hilltops – with the added bonus of views across to the snow-topped Alps. Piedmont’s gourmet capital Alba is a must for any foodie’s itinerary, thanks to its elegant pasticcerie and providores specialising in white truffles and local wine. Loved the Amalfi Coast & Italian Riviera? Then visit Tropea, Ostuni, Sestri Levante or San Fruttuoso If clifftop buildings, sandy beaches and clear blue waters normally lure you to the Amalfi Coast or Cinque Terre, try the impossibly beautiful Tropea at the tip of Italy’s toe in Calabria instead. Known as the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Tro pea was lauded as Italy’s Most Beautiful Village in 2021 For a completely different ambience, Instagram favorite Ostuni in Puglia exudes Greek vibes with its whitewashed architecture, hilltop location, winding streets, and Adriatic Sea views. Sestri Levante in Liguria is a dreamy alternative to popular Positano with its colorful houses, delightful boats, beaches, and lively evening street life, while the quirky hilltop village of Seborga above Rada di Poggio – which is seeking sov ereignty to become its own micronation like Monaco (only a much more downto-earth version) – is a heavenly hamlet known for its olive farming, elected ‘royalty’ and views. Hidden between Portofino and Camogli, San Fruttuoso can only be reached via a panoramic hiking trail, or by sea, but this tiny piece of paradise is reward in itself for making the effort to get there. With its pebbled beach directly in front of an ancient monastery, it’s an escapist’s delight inviting visitors to slow down, savor fresh local seafood and revel in the gorgeous Golfo Paradiso views. Loved Florence? Then visit Lecce, Pienza, Urbino The unofficial ‘Florence of the South’, Lecce in Apulia is the obvious choice for those looking for cities renowned for Renaissance arts and architecture. With its central Duomo, Sant’Oronzo square, Baroque buildings, historic amphitheatre and churches with golden facades, Lecce is vibrant university town worthy of inclusion on any Puglian itinerary.

Loved Tuscany? Then visit The Collio, Orvieto, Le Marche or Langhe If rolling hills, pretty hilltop villages, fields of flowers, gourmet adventures or zipping between wineries on a Vespa are still high on your holiday wish list, there are several Italian regions which give Tuscany a run for its money. Choose The Collio wine region in Fri uili-Venezia Giulia for blooming sunflow ers, family-run vineyards and spectac ular valleys along the Slovenian border.

STATION FEATURES Today, it is served by Sydney Trains T1 Western Line, T2 Inner West and Leppington and T5 Cumberland Line services.Theinland tradition continues with the NSW TrainLink Blue Mountains Line, Central West XPT and Outback Xplorer services.In1985, the station was refurbished with a new underground subway bus interchange built at the station's northeast side. There always seems to be some im provement at the site. In late 2003, work began on a new transport interchange which linked the station to the neighboring Westfield Par ramatta shopping centre. The much needed works included up grading the station, providing more access to commuters, and constructing a new bus interchange. It opened in 2006. In October 2016, the Parramatta Turnback Project was completed, adding crossovers to allow trains to terminate in eitherThedirection.newParramatta metro station will be located around a block to the north of the current station.

„ DALLS SHERRINGHAM FEW commuters sipping on their morning coffee and waiting for a train would realise they are standing on one of the most historic railway sites in Australia.Parramatta railway station is a heri tage-listed railway station located on the Main Western line and it was once the gateway to inland NSW when monster steam locomotives ruled the rails. In the modern era, Parramatta’s 1859 station building has now become one of the most if not the most important NSW railway heritage station due to its age and status.Parramatta station is one of Sydney's oldest and the colonial first line connected Sydney and Parramatta near Granville and opened in 1855. It was extended to the current Parramatta station four years later. Prior to the Main Western line being quadrupled from Granville to Westmead in 1985, the station consisted of four platforms, platforms three and four on the main line and one and two on a loop. The station is the earliest surviving example of John Whitton’s work since the past demolition of Campbelltown Railway Station took place, removing that station as the oldest example of his work in NSW. During the late 18th century and early 19th centuries, the ‘far western’ Sydney district surrounding Parramatta saw it become a specialised area, producing and providing agriculture foods for the colony. A military settlement was established close to the Parramatta River and during the early 1800s the town evolved from a convict settlement into a free town as Crown grants were provided. Very importantly Parramatta featured early on in the NSW railway plans as it was on the very first few first section of the NSW railway network to be completed and put into service. With the opening of the new railway line at Parramatta, the layout and focus of the town shifted and this saw the railway system begin to become used for the vari ous industries around the town. When the building boom evolved They were encouraged to move from near the Parramatta River to the area around Parramatta Station where a faster and cheaper method of transporting goods and people was available, whereas before all the goods were shipped down the river Residentialsystem.settlement in the area was also encouraged by the newly extended railway line and the subdivision of central land grants. By the 1880s the local popula tion of Parramatta area was beginning to rise and a building boom evolved to cater for this need.

In a move which may surprise people when compared with modern era Sydney, in the 1880-90s, the residential properties were converted to commercial premises surrounding the station. This process had virtually reached completion along Argyle Street by the early 1920s. With expanding services, by the late 1920s electric trains were being intro duced across Sydney to replace steam hauled services for passengers and this saw the line duplicated to Parramatta. During the 1940s the next major peri od of development of Parramatta railway station took place which saw the quadru plication of the railway line and construc tion of Platform Four. This new platform built at a time of war, served the new Defence site at St Marys as well as Army personnel from nearby Lancer Barracks. Since the mid-1940s a number of minor modifications have occurred to the overall station layout. The next major improvement work including a wider pedestrian subway, ramps and centralised ticketing facilities coincided with the construction of the Western Concourse in 1985. An eastern side concourse located underground was opened in 1996. The western concourse was renewed in 2006. When seen in its entire context, the Parramatta Railway Station has very high aesthetic significance due to the impor tance placed on the railway platforms built over a range of nearly 80 years. They cover a variety of historical periods and indicate a wide range of architectural styles from the Victorian Free Classical Style of the original 1859 station building and platform one, the late Victorian style 1880s station building and signal box, through to the Function alist style of the 1942 building as seen on platform four. The existing platforms cover from 1859 to 1942 in construction and show the different methods used in modifying the precinct for accommodating the growing use of the station.

STANDING ON A SLICE OF RAILWAY HISTORY

In response to the population growth and increase for the transportation of people and goods, the line between Gran ville and Parramatta was duplicated in 1879 to provide room for more paths for trains and services. As a result this also saw Parramatta station upgraded in 1882. With a duplica tion on the Blacktown section completed in 1886 this also saw the Parramatta Sig nal Box opened to handle more traffic. From the late 1880s and into the 1890s , the commercial centre of Parramatta moved southward to the area immediately surrounding the Railway Station.

Parramatta: gateway to inland NSW

“Mahindra received 25,000 reserva tions for the XUV700 within one minute of the vehicle being available online, and 100,000 reservations in the first 30 min utes – that demand may see Australia’s launch timeframe set back.”

Speaking to GoAuto News this week, Mahindra Automotive Australia mar keting manager, James Halliwell, said that with India being a right-hand drive market, Australian sales of the brand’s forthcoming eSUVs are almost guaran teed.

“Some time ago, in fact through the recent COVID-19 period, Mahin dra realised that with General Motors pulling out of right-hand drive markets, there was an opportunity for it to push towards markets including Australia, South Africa, the UK, Japan, and so on,” Mr Halliwell “Australia, explained.alongwith South Africa, are priority export markets for Ma hindra, and the new energy vehicles we have just announced are definitely on the radar. That said, this is quite a forward-looking statement given the arrival time of the models in question and related production schedules are still a couple of years out.”

Despite the potential delay, Mr Hal liwell said that Mahindra’s local arm is excited about the news of its first eSUVs for the Australian market and believes the combination of style and perfor mance will foster strong sales for the range Down Under. More than a million vehicles “We’re very excited to see the XUVe and BE range released, and personally I think that Pininfarina and the domestic design team have done a terrific job in styling these models. The design will give us an edge, and Volkswagen’s platform will provide the technology, safety and performance needed to get us to market moreVolkswagenquickly.” said that more than one million vehicles will be produced by Ford and Mahindra over the duration of the deal.

The Mahindra BE.05 coupe-SUV, which will arrive in Indian showrooms from October 2025, is being touted as a Sports Electric Vehicle, or SEV. It boasts aggressive frontal styling with angular C-shaped LED headlights and large air intakes reminiscent of an Italian sportscar. With sharp lines and a prominent air duct on the bonnet, the model is further enhanced by squaredoff wheel arches and large diameter alloy wheels, flush-mounted door handles, a prominent shoulder line and pronounced rear haunches with C-shaped LED taillights. Mahindra says the BE.05 SEV will offer a driver-focused cockpit with a high centre console offering the driver and passenger their own individual space. The cabin shows a pair pf large touch screens for operation of the vehicle’s secondary control, a twin-spoke steering wheel and large gear selector. The BE.05 measures 4370mm in length, 1900mm in width, 1635mm in height and rides on a 2775mm wheel base. In its home market, the model will directly compete with the Tata Curvv. The BE.07, meanwhile, will launch in October 2026 and bring a more tradi tional SUV silhouette to Mahindra’s electric range. The model retains many of the styling cues of its coupe-SUV sibling, including the C-shaped head- and taillights, but with a less angular design suggesting a family-focused intent. Mahindra says the BE.07 previews a tech-laden yet practical cabin with a fullwidth digital screen across its dashboard, similar to that of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX system. There are no physical switches evident in the cabin, which is topped by a full-length panoramic sunroof. Slightly smaller in size to the new ly-launched XUV700, the Mahindra BE.07 measures 4565mm long, 1900mm wide and 1660mm high, and rides on the same 2775mm wheelbase as the BE.05. Finally, the BE.09 – another coupeSUV – will sit atop the BE line-up. Mahindra has yet to reveal specifications or measurements of its flagship electric model, but says it will offer just four seats, suggesting a sports-luxury focus for the model.

„ MATT BROGAN MAHINDRA has unveiled five new electric SUVs based on Volkswa gen Group’s MEB platform as the Indian manufacturer seeks to ex pedite its move toward battery-powered cars – and the range is tipped to make it into Australian showrooms. Previewed as part of an online presentation this week, the forthcoming models will be sold under individu al brand streams – XUV and BE – the design of each conceptualised at the Ma hindra Advanced Design Europe facility in theMahindra,UK. which is the second cus tomer for Volkswagen Group’s MEB plat form after Ford, will begin production of its first MEB-based SUV this year at its Cologne plant in Germany. That model, the XUV.e8 is slated to go on sale from December 2024 and will be followed shortly after by the XEV.e9. The Mumbai-based company will release its BE-branded models progres sively from October 2025, the trio named BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09 respectively.

Mahindra will launch five MEB-based all-electric SUVs from 2024, Oz sales likely

The MEB-sourced platform – which will be reformed under the Inglo name by Mahindra – will offer battery capacity ranging from 60 to 80kWh and offer a fast-charging time of less than 30 min utes to achieve 80 per cent capacity. Mahindra did not specify the range of any of its five models.

“Before then, and hopefully with in the first half of next year, we’ll see the new Scopio-N and XUV700 arrive in Australia, but that timeframe too is unclear given the popularity of these vehicles in their home market.”

“The partnership not only demon strates that our platform business is highly competitive, but that the MEB is well on track to become one of the leading open platforms for e-mobility,” said Volkswagen board of management member, Thomas Schmall. Producing a range of new energy vehicles (NEVs) is crucial to Mahindra as it seeks to break the dominance of rival Tata Motors in its home market. By 2027, Mahindra says it expects its NEV range to account for “between 20 and 30 per cent of its total SUV sales”.
