The Importance of Physical Therapy Before Total Knee Replacement

Physical therapy plays a crucial role in preparing patients for a successful total knee replacement surgery. It offers a range of benefits that not only improve the outcome of the surgery but also enhance the overall quality of life for the individual. Here are some key advantages of undergoing physical therapy before a total knee replacement:

1. Pain Management:

Physical therapy helps to alleviate pain and discomfort in the affected knee joint through targeted exercises and techniques. By strengthening the muscles surrounding the knee and improving flexibility, physical therapy can reduce the intensity of pain and improve mobility.

2. Improved Range of Motion:

Pre-surgery physical therapy focuses on improving the range of motion in the knee joint. This helps to ensure that the patient retains as much mobility as possible both before and after the surgery, which can aid in the recovery process.

3.Muscle Strengthening: Strengthening the muscles around the knee joint is essential for providing support and stability post-surgery. Physical therapy helps to build strength in these muscles, which can enhance the success of the knee replacement and improve the patient’s ability to perform daily activities.

4. Faster Recovery:

Patients who undergo presurgery physical therapy tend to experience a faster and smoother recovery after a total knee replacement. The increased strength, flexibility, and mobility gained through physical therapy can accelerate the rehabilitation process and promote better outcomes in the long term.

5. Psychological Benefits:

Physical therapy can also have psychological benefits for patients, as it provides a sense of empowerment and control over their condition. By actively participating in their own recovery through physical therapy, patients often experience reduced anxiety and a more positive outlook on the upcoming surgery.

Physical therapy before a total knee replacement is a valuable component of treatment that can significantly improve outcomes and enhance the overall wellbeing of patients.

By addressing pain, improving mobility, strengthening muscles, and promoting faster recovery, physical therapy sets the stage for a successful knee replacement surgery and a smoother rehabilitation process.

is your dog telling you what to do?

While I was visiting a friend the other day, I observed in horror as one of the most obnoxious behaviors a dog could offer unfolded right before my eyes. Not only was her dog Demand Barking but my friend was reinforcing it! Yep, that little bugger was barking at my friend because she wanted a cookie. Little Sophia the Yorkie knew exactly where those cookies were stashed. She parked herself right in front of the cookie jar and she was not budging until she got her cookie. The more my friend ignored her dog, the louder the little devil dog became. After a couple minutes of Sophia’s temper tantrum, my friend laughed and said “Isn’t she so cute and smart that she can tell me she wants a cookie” and then gave her the cookie.

I know we all wish our dogs could talk sometimes but be careful what you wish for. I can only imagine what my dog would say, “I love you, too; come on scratch my butt; let me out; let me in; what, that kibble again; once more around the block, James, throw the ball;, you little wimp; oops, sorry I have gas.” Most people think it is amazing that their dog knows exactly where the cookie is, plus can communicate that feeling. Then there are some folks like me who think it’s pretty rude to be barked at.

Hey, I’m not perfect; I have been known to occasionally bribe my dogs with the words “cookies” to get their attention. I regularly treat my dog with a cookie – if she asks nicely. I think it is so cute that my dog can sit nicely in front of the cookie jar, glance at me, then back to the cookie jar as if to say “please, mom.” I will ask her “would you like a cookie?” So when she sits and is quiet as if

Tor’s Taste T UR

I know, I know. You love the Valley, but you’ve probably been around the block a time or two and hit up all of the dinner spots a couple times in the food scene here. You love all your tried and true favorites, but you want something a little different tonight! You showered, put on clean pants, and you’re going to smell nice for approximately 30 minutes because the weather refuses to dip below 96°. So gosh darn, you want to go somewhere new with your clean scent! So what if I told you I found the best kept secret in The Valley? Yes! You heard that correctly! Sweetwater Golf course, conveniently located at 2554 Geryville Pike in Pennsburg now has a NEW PUB, open to the public! And when I tell you, this pub is THE PLACE to go for an amazing beer list, and a quick bite, I mean it!

I indulged in their “Brooklyn” sandwich; loaded with grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella cheese, balsamic vinegar and roasted red peppers. It was an absolutely delightful and refreshing option for pub fare! It was the perfect summer sandwich, if you ask me! Which, did you know is the perfect season to enjoy their new patio and pub area?! From a beautifully done inside pub, with a self serve beer wall of over 32 beers, plus wines, ciders and even a non alcoholic selection, to dining al fresco on their patio, there is no shortage of atmosphere here! But, onto my favorite part....

The star of this show was their “Best fries” and if you’re wondering what those are, I’ll fill you in. Side winder fries sprinkled with old bay, drizzled in ranch and loaded with hot and crispy bacon, served with a side of piping hot cheese sauce. Delish! Honestly I’m going to make a really bold statement and say they are probably in my top 10 best fries I’ve ever had. Hey, maybes that’s why they are called Best fries... hmmmm. I’m not even joking! Flawless. Give them the Olympic gold medal now. So head on over to Sweetwater’s NEW Pub, aptly named “Tapped out” and dive into their amazing self help beer wall, outdoor patio and pub! And don’t forget to order the Best Fries! You won’t regret it. Tell them Tor sent ya!
