ANNUAL REPORT 2017

Our mission is to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. We engage, educate and empower all sectors of society in the battle.

We fill the emptiness caused by hunger with FOOD, HELP and HOPE.

WELCOME Dear FoodBank Friends, Innovation. Nutrition. Collaboration. These words describe 2017, a year during which the Community FoodBank of New Jersey launched targeted programs and partnered with health care experts to further address hunger as a health issue. And 2017 was a record year for the FoodBank. We reached a new milestone in food distribution, delivering more than 50 million pounds of food to families in need across the state – equivalent to about 42 million meals!

Each and every day, we get closer to our ultimate goal of eliminating hunger in New Jersey. In the meantime, the FoodBank will do what it does best – provide nourishing food for families and inspire healthy choices.

That’s a testament to the commitment and compassion of our community partners, donors, volunteers, advocates, and staff. We faced obstacles in combating hunger in New Jersey. But we pushed forward, modifying our food distribution model to increase efficiency; enhancing current programs to ensure we reach more people; and establishing new ones to target chronic diseases, like diabetes, that can be managed with proper nutrition.

We feel confident we are moving in the right direction. With new leadership, we remain steadfast in our efforts to create lasting change. And we know it’s possible with your support. Sincerely,

Nearly one million people in our state struggle with food insecurity. They live paycheck-to-paycheck, trying to make ends meet. There is still much for us to do, especially as federal nutrition assistance programs are at risk of being cut. There are challenges ahead, but the opportunities are even greater.

Carlos M. Rodriguez President and CEO
