ANNUAL REPORT 2016 SERVING UP FOOD, HELP & HOPE

Our mission is to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. We engage, educate and empower all sectors of society in the battle.

We fill the emptiness caused by hunger with

FOOD. HELP. HOPE.

WELCOME A MESSAGE FROM DEBRA

Dear FoodBank Friends, Fiscal Year 2016 was a year of transition. I joined the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, replacing a dynamic founder who grew the FoodBank over 42 years from delivering food from the back of her station wagon in downtown Newark to a social service enterprise. It is an honor to continue the work Kathleen DiChiara started.

The work of the past year was possible thanks to our passionate FoodBank team and our supportive community, including our generous donors, hard-working volunteers and hungerfighting advocates. Looking to the year ahead, we want to expand our efforts to treat hunger as a health issue by partnering with local farms and retailers to source and distribute even more produce; with healthcare leaders to address specific medical conditions; and with corporations to support the implementation of new technologies that will help us better understand the needs of the people we serve.

During this transition, we were committed to not missing a beat. The unfortunate reality is that the need in our state is growing – and we need to grow with it. Over the last year, the passionate team at the FoodBank strategized to find new, innovative ways to reach more people in need – and we did. We distributed more than 43 million pounds of food to help families thrive.

The FoodBank has been fighting hunger for more than 40 years and we will continue until we eliminate hunger in New Jersey.

Our child feeding programs served tens of thousands of nourishing meals to kids at risk of hunger, and we expanded our Family Pack Program to provide food for entire households over the weekend. We reached more vulnerable seniors in our community with monthly boxes filled with nutritious food. Our goal is to make sure that everyone in New Jersey has what they need to lead happy and healthy lives.

Sincerely,

Debra Vizzi President and CEO
