BOLD IMPACT We are so pleased to provide this annual report about how philanthropy through the Community Foundation of Broward creates BOLD impact for the community we love. The Community Foundation just accomplished its boldest grantmaking year ever, thanks to the dedication and generosity of a growing number of local philanthropists who partner with us to be more strategic and impactful with their giving. During our 2023 fiscal year, we achieved recordbreaking annual grantmaking of $19 million to tackle Broward’s big challenges and shape a brighter and more prosperous future. Community Foundation grants support career training, seniors, the arts, mental health, cancer research, the environment, animal rescue, education and more. Through the power of endowment, we can count on life-changing support from the Community Foundation for generations to come. Of course, our impact reaches beyond grantmaking. During 2023, the Community Foundation’s BOLD leadership forged new collaborations to support the LGBTQ community, raise awareness about environmental sustainability and deliver emergency aid after Broward’s historic flash flooding. Thank you to all the Fundholders, Legacy Society members, nonprofits, professional advisors and other community leaders who partner with us to make a BOLD impact for Broward. Together, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish for the place we call home. Juliet Murphy Roulhac, J.D. Board Chair Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. President/CEO

JUMP-STARTING FL When historic flash flooding from an April storm destroyed homes and businesses, our Broward Cares collaboration provided nearly $1 million to help our community recover. During times of crisis, the Community Foundation of Broward, the Jewish Federation of Broward County and United Way of Broward County team up to activate Broward Cares, which delivers coordinated help where it’s needed the most. In response to the devastating flash flooding, the Broward Cares partners quickly raised nearly $1 million in donations to support recovery efforts.

RACIAL JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION Everyone should feel welcome and have a real opportunity to achieve success in Broward. We know philanthropy can do more to make that a reality. The Community Foundation is committed to dismantling systems of racial inequality and social injustice to create a more equitable and inclusive community for all residents through systemic, sustainable and scalable change. That’s why, through our leadership and grantmaking, we support Racial Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Here are two examples of our ongoing work to achieve long-overdue changes.

POWER OF ENDOWMENT An endowment is a charitable fund you can create at the Community Foundation of Broward to lock in permanent, sustainable support for causes and organizations that matter to you. When you partner with the Community Foundation to establish an endowed charitable fund, your gift is carefully invested over time. Earnings from your gift add to your fund and produce Community Foundation grants that support your charitable priorities today and forever. With the Community Foundation to shepherd and grow your endowed fund, your legacy of BOLD impact for Broward never ends.

HOW AN ENDOWED GIFT OF $100,000 CAN GROW*

In 50 years, your fund balance reaches $128,323, has produced more than $283,200 in grants and keeps growing.

In 15 years, your fund balance is $107,768 and has produced more than $77,600 in grants.

In one year, your fund balance is $100,500 and produces $5,000 in grants. 12

(*Assumes a 5% annual granting payout, 1.5% administration fees and a net 7% investment rate of return.)

WHY CREATE AN ENDOWED CHARITABLE FUND? “The expert team at the Community Foundation of Broward ensures that every dollar I give creates bold impact in Broward. I have great peace of mind knowing my endowed charitable fund will provide lasting benefits towards issues that are important to me.”

“What a great way to have your wishes continue forever. … We have worked our whole lives supporting the community. I love that our work will continue forever through the Community Foundation.”

“The Community Foundation made it easy for us to launch our family philanthropy. They expertly handle all the back-office duties and find innovative opportunities to make a lasting difference. We get to focus on the joy of philanthropy.” Steve and Susan Breitbart, Fundholders who created their endowed charitable fund in 2020.

“It goes on forever. … Not just one year or 10 years or 20 years, it’s indefinitely. As long as there is a Broward and a Community Foundation of Broward, my contributions will be felt.” Larry Feuer, a Legacy Society member whose estate gift to the Community Foundation will launch his endowed charitable fund.

BOLD MOVEMENT The BE BOLD Leadership Campaign has succeeded in raising $325 million in new gifts and planned gifts for Broward – and we aren’t done yet! In 2018, we launched this BOLD movement to build endowment and grow philanthropic resources able to keep pace with Broward’s everchanging needs. We are doing it by partnering with philanthropists who believe in giving back to create BOLD impact for the community they love. Through a gift today or a planned gift to the Community Foundation, you can create a charitable fund to support causes and organizations that make life better in Broward.
