EAST PARKER COUNTY
Center of Hope says good-bye – and hello ◗ Services consolidated in
county seat facility By Randy Keck The Community News
Clients and volunteers said goodbye to a building last week, but not to what it has stood for over the last nine years. The East Parker County Center of Hope has provided services and assistance to local families in need over those years through the generosity of XTO, which not only built out the space to suit the organization, but allowed it to operate rentfree for six years at its Bankhead Road location. Exxon purchased XTO and provided another three years, but when the last lease renewal date came up, decided it needed the space. Volunteers and staff gathered on Wednesday, May 27 to commemorate their last day in the building. Jana Ray, director of the facility, spoke to the gathered group, quoting Jeremiah 29:11; “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” “Just remember we are simply

changing locations, and we are celebrating changing locations,” Ray said. Paula Robinson, CEO of Center of Hope, said all services that have been offered at the East Parker County location will now be provided in Weatherford. “We did a good analysis, and found only one family for which transportation was an issue,” Robinson said. She added that special arrangements have been made for that family. In addition, she said there are services available in Weatherford that were not available in the East Parker County location, such as the Jobs for Life class, which helps prepare people for job interviews and employment, a computer lab and financial coaching. “Whatever they were getting, they’ll continue to get,” she said, including available of food and personal supplies. On a monthly basis, Robinson said the combined Center of Hope has been providing services to about 500 clients, translated as a head of household. She pointed out that sometimes two families live in a Turn to CENTER, page 2A
