Thanksgiving is a time that signals the official start of the holiday season. For many people, it’s one of the few times in a year that they see certain members of the family. For others, it can be a trying time filled with unwanted and unfamiliar chaos, or the sad reminder of a now-empty house. The Cheektowaga Senior Center is making sure that no one needs to be alone for Thanksgiving – and certainly, that no one needs to take on the challenge of cooking a full Thanksgiving meal if they don’t want to. From 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, the center will be holding their

Senior center to host Thanksgiving annual Thanksgiving dinner. Tickets are $16 and must be purchased at the center office (3349 Broadway) by November 10 – or before they’re sold out. The dinner is open to members and their guests, and for center director Kerry Switalski, it’s more than about a dinner (as amazing as that always is). It, like all her other programs and events, is about the people, about the fun, about the socializing and about the atmosphere. “In years past, I’ve been told things like, “I’m not able to cook at home, and this is almost as good as home cookin’!”” she says, and for the hard-working staff that bring the event from fridge to table, that’s one of the best compliments they can get. The dinner will be catered

by Peter G., and include everything that a homecooked Thanksgiving dinner should. From the chef salad to the roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, stuffing, and sweet potatoes to the cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for dessert, absolutely no one will go away hungry. In addition to the dinner (and that lack of dishes that diners will have to clean up afterward), there will also be music provided by one man band Bobby Sugg. Because no Thanksgiving dinner would be complete without some music, there will be dancing (or just relaxing) after the meal. When it comes to being thankful, Switalski is grateful that she’s able to bring the dinner to their members and

their guests. She hears all kinds of stories and gets all kinds of thanks – everyone’s situation is different, and although everyone has a different reason for spending their Thanksgiving at the center, one thing that doesn’t change is the sense of family that’s celebrated there. Some of the center’s members have told her that even though they’re going to be doing another dinner with family who are coming in from out of town or from down the street, they look forward to dinner at the center just as much. They’re just as thankful for the family they’ve made there as they are for the family that they’re born into, and for Switalski.... that’s all the thanks she needs. Help fund anti-bullying musical By Debra Kelly

Award-winning singersongwriter Lisa Barrett grew up in the Cheektowaga school district and for her, like for many of us, school was a series of events – some good, some not-so-good – that shaped her youth. And for many of us, it’s those not-so-good events that truly stand out as landmarks through the long days of the school year. There’s a lot that’s changed over the last few decades in schools, but one thing that hasn’t changed is bullying. Barrett knows just how painful being the target of bullies can be, and she’s hoping to help students learn how to stand up to them and break the painful cycle. “I remember it like it just happened yesterday, and yet it was more than 30 years ago,” she says of her own torment by some of her classmates. “You just lose all confidence in yourself, and you’re consumed with sadness. It was embarrassing. All the other

students watched while I was constantly humiliated.” She remembers being picked last for gym class, amid taunts from other students telling their team captains not to pick her, as they’d lose for sure. She remembers being picked on for her hair, for her clothes, for wearing her sister’s hand-me-downs. She vividly remembers walking into her 5th grade class with green pants – and being pointed at and laughed at. Those are powerful memories, not only of the incident, but of the feeling. It’s those moments that can ruin a day, a week, that can overshadow everything good and fun that school is supposed to be. Now, Barrett has written a musical, designed to be performed by children from grades 3 to 8, that shows just what it’s like to be bullied – and what can be done to stop it. The musical makes kids the cast and crew, and casts them in roles that allow them to learn about being the target and being a bystander – and how those that just watch do damage,

too. The musical wasn’t always going to be a musical – at first, Barrett intended to write a couple songs about her experiences and what kids could do to get out of an abusive situation. “I was originally done with the CD at four songs,” she says. “That was until I saw a flyer from the Rachel’s Challenge organization. Rachel Scott was the first victim of the Columbine shooting, and she was also an advocate for kindness. I knew after reading about Rachel that I was missing a song that would tell youth that they needed to change to make things better. They needed to show a little kindness. “It sounded like a simple solution,” she continues. “but the results are incredibly powerful and life-changing. Everyone – adults included – should be showing a little kindness every day.” The hour-long production is designed to teach kids not only what they should do when they’re being bullied, but what to do when they see

someone else being bullied – and what a difference it can make to show a little compassion. Barrett has created a mascot for her production that embodies the message behind it. The W.U.G. is a reminder of just what you should be doing if you’re a target. “W”alk away, “U”se your voice and tell them to stop, and “G”o and get help. For those who are being bullied, help in dealing with the situation can seem the farthest thing away in the world, and she’s hoping that her W.U.G. will be a reminder that it’s not. Barrett will be launching a Kickstarter to help her raise the funds needed to get the musical into schools around the country. She’s hoping that, through her musical, she’ll be able to reach out to those children that need it the most, and let them know that they’re not alone – and they don’t have to feel the same consuming sadness that she suffered through. Internet hate alarming for a number of reasons

Being a 22-year-old recent graduate, I’m a pretty avid social media user. In fact, I get the majority of my news from Twitter as I follow a lot of news sites and reporters. I also follow various celebrities and athletes to see what they’re talking about. One of my favorite people to follow is model Chrissy Teigen. If you haven’t heard of her, she’s the wife of singer John Legend, whose recent hit All of Me has received tons of airplay. The main reason I enjoy her tweets is because she

states her opinion on current issues and doesn’t back down when people disagree with her – which is often. Earlier this week, she tweeted to her 539 thousand followers about gun control. Without getting into what her opinion was on that as that’s another editorial for another week, I decided to check out what people had to say in reply to her tweet. The responses, as you can imagine, were far from friendly. In fact, many of them were downright nasty. “It’s a good thing you have

a nice body because you have no brains.” “Don’t let the door hit you in your undernourished butt on the way out of the United States.” “It’s a good thing you’re ‘pretty’. Now go eat an orange slice, or as you models call it, lunch.” And those are three of the tamer tweets. Teigen does not let these ignorant replies have any baring on her future tweets and often comes up with a snarky comment making that person look foolish.

However, the types of responses she gets are alarming for our society for a multitude of reasons – but there are two major ones that stick out to me. One reason is the fact that those three tweets came from males. She does get hate from women as well, but, in a culture where two huge issues are sexual assault and domestic violence against women, it’s disturbing to see these words come from men. This verbal abuse and vain attempt at body-shaming Teigen can be a stepping-stone

or sign of what’s to come. If you dislike a woman you’ve never met enough to unleash a cruel string of insults on her, then what are you going to do to women you know? The other reason this disturbs me is that there are people out there who actually believe that just because she is a model she is not smart or should not have an opinion. But why should that have any bearing on whether or not she can have an opinion on a political issue? In fact, I think that Teigen can be a role model for a lot

of women and girls out there because she does state her opinion on hot button issues, even knowing she is going to get these types of replies. Insulting someone is the way unintelligent people argue. If you want to disagree, at least do so intelligently and come up with valid points! In this politically correct world where everyone always tries to say the right thing, Teigen is refreshingly honest. If you’re interested in following her, check her out at @chrissyteigen.

Villa Maria welcomes expert on aging gracefully to its campus By Debra Kelly

Villa Maria has been fortunate enough to welcome one of the nation’s leading experts on Universal Design to their campus. Cynthia Leibrock was the guest speaker at the college’s 2014 Universal Design Symposium, which was created to teach students the benefits of designing a home to specifically meet the needs of its inhabitants – especially those that are aging or building a home for their aging years. “This was an amazing opportunity to have Ms. Leibrock in Buffalo,” says Sandra Reicis, associate professor of Interior

Design at the college. “She is here as part of the Green Mountain Fellowship, which I was awarded in the spring. During the first part of the fellowship, I spent a week at her demonstration house gaining first hand experience in a UD home. The second part of the fellowship is her visit to our campus.” Universal Design is all about creating a friendly, welcoming and easyto-use environment. A house that’s designed the proper way can help a person overcome all the challenges of aging or other disabilities, and Leibrock’s work has been featured in countless magazines across the country – including at

the Smithsonian. Part of the idea of UD isn’t just creating something now that will be comfortable and easily accessible when a person’s mobility slows down or a little extra help is needed, it’s about building a home that can be easily adapted to fit changing lifestyles and needs. As the first part of the Green Mountain Fellowship, Leibrock invites four educators to stay with her in her Green Mountain Ranch. That week-long stay includes everything from hiking and cooking to learning about all the details of the home – details that can make all the difference. The house features amenities like glass garage and barn doors to increase the amount of natural light,

solar panels, greenhouses and patios, as well as smaller features like selfclosing cabinets and nonslip floors. Teacher works to raise Autism awareness Nick Rockwell, a Buffalo-area native and special education teacher at Summit Academy, in Getzville, along with his fellow staff members are hosting the second annual “The Empire Strikes for Bucks.” This unique bowling event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Thruway Lanes, 1550 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. “The Empire Strikes for Bucks” is designed to be fun for all ages and includes low-sensory lanes and other accommodations for guests with autism. Celebrate Picture Book Month at the library By Debra Kelly

For many children, picture books are their first exposure to reading. They form lasting images that stay with us forever, and for those fortunate enough to have parents who read them bedtime stories, it’s those books that we’ll use to read to the next generation of children. November’s Picture Book Month is an initiative begun as a national awareness campaign as to the important role that picture books play in creating a lifetime of reading habits. Jennifer Villa over at the Julia Boyer Reinstein Memorial Library works with Cheektowaga’s youngest residents every day, and she knows what a difference picture books make in their lives and their learning. She knows because she, too, still

has her favorites that she remembers from childhood. “There’s a few picture books that have stuck with me – for one reason or another,” she says. “Love You Forever by Robert Munsch is one... I know they say you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this boy and his toilet never left my head! It’s one of the few books I can remember my mother actually reading to me, as opposed to reading it on my own like I preferred to do.” She also says that books like Little Rabbit’s Loose Tooth by Lucy Bate and Diane DeGroat helped her get over her own fears about what was going to happen when she started to lose her teeth, and Russell Hoban’s Bread and Jam for Frances always left her wanting to hear more about Frances and his food escapades. It’s memories like that

The library always has fun programs for kids of all ages in the works, and this month, they’re doing something special that’s allowing kids to step through the pages of their favorite mystery book and right into the action. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, they’ll be recruited help from local kids to help solve the mystery of the missing characters. JFK drops Wilson, earns Section VI playoff berth By Nick Sabato SPORTS REPORTER

The final spot in Class C North was up for grabs as John F. Kennedy travelled to Wilson on Friday night (Oct. 17). It was a winner take all game and JFK came out and took it to Wilson from start to finish, beating the Lakemen, 24-7, in the final regular season game of the year. The Bears looked to be the more physical team from the get so and picked up 243 yards rushing on the night. “We’ve been making a lot of mistakes and that’s been hurting us and we know that,” said JFK co-head coach Jeff Sabatino. “Tonight we came out and said we have to limit our mistakes and if we capitalize early we should

be able to take control of the game and hopefully the line of scrimmage. That’s what we were able to do.” There was nothing sophisticated about the JFK offense as it made it a point to feed its backfield duo. After an early fourth down gamble by Wilson came up short, the Bears took advantage of the short field as Lexus Pollard plunged in from a yard out. The Lakemen would go three-and-out on the next possession and JFK was back at it as Matt Lanazalaco capped off a nine-play drive on a 3-yard scoring run. Pollard would later score on a 40-yard touchdown run as the Bears had nearly as many points (21) as Wilson had total yards (26) midway through the second quarter. “I knew that [JFK was physical] coming in,” said Wilson head coach Bill Atlas. “They have kids that like to hit. We are still young and the way I know we are young is that I look into their backfield

we have some time.” Wilson displayed signs of life after the second Pollard score as it needed only 25 seconds to get down the field

as the drive was punctuated by a 25-yard scoring connection from Justin Daul to Alex Fox to cut the lead to 21-7 at halftime. Unfortunately for the Lakemen faithful, they would not have very many more opportunities to cheer for the remainder of the night despite the fact that the defense held JFK to just a field goal in the second half. Wilson was held to six drives of four plays or fewer and the rushing attack accumulated just 68 yards on 26 carries. “Their game plan was to dare us to throw,” said Atlas. “They had no safety and cover one all around and we’re going to have a hard time running against eight in the box. We had to be able to throw well. It was a bit of a windy night that hampered our passing game a little bit.” Daul was just 8 for 23 for 75 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore continues to show improvement and this will be another learning moment for the talented

quarterback. “I see good things from him each and every day in practice,” said Atlas. “He’s got some growing up to do but we will be right here with him.” Pollard finished with 136 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns while Lanzalaco ran for 89 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown while adding a catch for 11 yards to put him over the century mark in total yardage on the night. The Bears (3-4) earned the third seed in Class C North, which means they’ll travel to Southwestern, Class C South’s No. 2 seed, Friday night (Oct. 24) for a firstround matchup. “Southwestern is one heck of a program,” said Sabatino. “We have to focus on ourselves and what we are going to do. We are excited to be in this situation, not on the outside looking in.” Wilson (1-6) will host Alleghany-Limestone in a Chuck Funke Bowl game the same night.

North Cheektowaga looks ahead to playoffs By Gary Steltermann SPORTS REPORTER

The North Cheektowaga Amateur Athletic Association football teams took on South Buffalo last weekend. The first game of the day was the season finale for the Red Raiders. Richard Donohue scored on a 35-yard touchdown run while Jaiden Meredith, Logan Gray, Isaiah Mackey and Telly Willis all had dominating defensive performances. Of the 37 players on the

squad this year, five were returning with any playing experience. Gray, Mackey, Willis, and Noah Irby all served as leaders both vocally and by example on and off the field. Noah Nelson, Francesca “Frankie” Morris, Meredith, Dylan Ciotuszynski, Jacob Malkowski, and Ryan McIntyre all played their final games as Red Raiders. “We truly had a season of growth and the entire team grew and learned along with the coaches,” said head coach Lloyd Gray.

He along with the rest of the Red Raider staff, would like to thank all the players and parents for all the help and support they received this season and are already looking forward to next year. The second game of the day saw the Spartans come up short in an 8-6 defensive battle versus the Leprechauns. Their lone touchdown came on a long run by Jeremy Thompson up the Spartan sideline in the third quarter. The Spartans got the ball back in the fourth quarter but the Leprechaun defense proved

to be too determined. The Spartans are the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and look to avenge the loss as they take on South Buffalo for the third time this season. The Spartans won their first match-up in week one 6-0. The Titans also saw a loss handed to them by the Tigers in a hard-fought battle. Amir Morris and Justus Williams continued their success through the air and on the ground. Ronald “RJ” Mack showed off his hard running style all over the field for the offense as well. Cam-

eron Chandler and Carson Harper had strong defensive showings at linebacker and safety as they pestered Tiger ball-carriers all day with multiple unassisted tackles. The Titans are the second seed and will see the West Seneca West Tomahawks. The Titans won the first match up 52-20 in week three. The final game of the day saw history written as the Crusaders beat the Shamrocks 32-6 and went on to become the first undefeated team in NCAAA history. Scores came from Bobby

Lozada, Kaiser Acosta and Javaughn Williams. Stout defensive performances were put in by Cal Simpson, Caleb Graves, and Anthony Morris. The Crusaders are the first seed in the playoffs and will face off against the West Seneca East Warriors. The Crusaders won their first match up 53-2. Cleve Hill’s change of fortune punctuated by Maryvale win By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

Wins haven’t been all that frequent in recent years for the Cleveland Hill girls volleyball — but those times are changing. And their fellow Eagles have taken notice. The Eagles have achieved a goal and secured a winning season and have hopes of making further noise in the Section VI playoffs. “This season has definitely been bringing our school up in volleyball,” co-captain Kristina DiBlasio said. “No one has really been coming to the games the last few years and now everyone wants to be at every game.” The Eagles finished the regular season at 10-6 overall and finished 8-4 in ECIC IV, losing

league games only to Eden and Alden. But perhaps the win that best symbolizes Cleveland Hill’s turnaround came on Oct. 15. The Eagles dropped the first two sets in a non-league clash against rival Maryvale, including a lopsided 25-10 opening set. But Cleveland Hill turned things around in a hurry, winning three straight and clinching with a dominant 25-10 victory in the decisive fifth set. “We’re good at persevering,” said senior setter Arianna D’Agostino, the other co-captain for the Eagles. “We just had to keep to keep everyone’s spirits up and we came back and finished. That’s one thing we’ve struggled with is finishing, but we’re learning to finish.” Each set got a little bit better and soon the confidence began to grow for Cleveland Hill.And that’s similar to what the Eagles have seen all year long. “We all started to believe a little more,” DiBlasio said. “Once we started to play, ev-

.500 and the Eagles have done just that. “We’re finishing strong,” Cleveland Hill coach Sherri Gund said. “We have our best record in the last 5 or 6 years, so that’s exciting. Hopefully we

can start strong in the playoffs.” Despite the upstart season, the Eagles are well-aware of the fact that nobody is going to be paying a whole lot of attention to them when the playoffs begin. But that’s just fine with

Cleveland Hill, which is looking forward to seeing what it can do. “People aren’t going to be expecting us and we’re going to come out with a bang,” D’Agostino said.

Kelleher’s switch back to the trenches paying dividends By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

As a junior, Mike Kelleher served as a bruising fullback for the Maryvale High School football team and scored a team-best five touchdowns. For his senior season, however, the decision was made to move the big man back to offensive guard, his natural position.

And that decision sure proved to be the correct one. Kelleher was dominated on both sides of the ball and has been one of the best linemen in Western New York all season long. He’s definitely a load,” Maryvale coach Jeff Buccieri said. “He’s just a great captain and great team player.” A year ago, Kelleher ran the ball 45 times for 147 yards and the five touchdowns, including two TDs on just eight carries in the seasonending win over Gowanda. He moved to the line this

season and has been as good as it gets. “He was a running back last season but we told him, ‘We need you on the line,” Buccieri said, “and he sucked it up, no complaints. And he’s obviously been one of the best linemen, not only on our team but in all of Western New York as well.” With a large group of talented backs on the roster, Maryvale had the luxury of moving Kelleher back to his natural offensive guard position. And early in training camp, he was excited about

the move. “We have a great corps of backs and I can’t wait to block for them,” he said in a preseason interview. His optimism proved to be accurate. The Flyers ran for more than 2,000 yards as a team in the regular season and the offensive line was a big reason for that. “Those guys have been great,” Maryvale senior Marcus Ford said. “Each week, I have to thank every one of my linemen.” Kelleher, a Trench Trophy nominee, also led the team

with 11 pancake blocks and anchors an offensive line that also includes the likes of Steve Schroeder, Jaquar Perkins and others. That line has paved the way for Maryvale’s first playoff season since 2008. ““In practice, we go all out every single second and we go hard every down in the game and we have great coaches,” Kelleher said after a dominant performance in a 35-6 win over Cheektowaga in Week 7. As good as he’s been on offense, he may be even better on defense as an outside linebacker. Kelleher led

Maryvale in the regular season with 61 tackles as well as two sacks and an interception. That’s all led to the greatest season Maryvale football has experienced in years. The Flyers ended long losing steaks against cross-town rivals Central and Cleveland Hill and enter the playoffs looking strong. “We’ve had a great season,” Kelleher said. “Last year, we didn’t come out that strong, but this year, we have a better all team, a better overall coaching staff and better overall program.”

Maryvale takes Maroon Madness for first time since 90s in win By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

Even with a loss on Friday night, there were still some scenarios that could have put the Maryvale High School football team back into the Class B Section VI playoffs — with a lot of help. The Flyers were in no mood to ask for help. Instead, they went out and posted one of the most impressive wins the program has seen in a long time to earn a playoff berth for the first time since 2008 – and claimed a share of the Class B Central championship along the way. Maryvale posted its most lopsided victory in the history of the Maroon Madness Rivalry, posting an impressive 35-6 victory at rival Cheektowaga Central in front of packed bleachers on both sides of the field. “We didn’t want to leave it in the hands of fate,” Jeff Buccieri said. “We wanted to handle business ourselves and we’re real happy that we did that.” Maryvale’s dominant win gave it a share of the division title along with Cheektowaga and Depew. The Flyers beat the Warriors for the first time since an 8-3 verdict in 1998. Since that time, Cheektowaga had won 12 in a row. “We play as a team, we play with heart,” Maryvale running back Marcus Ford said. “We knew we hadn’t beaten that school since the 90s and we had to give it our all.” Since point differential maxes out at 20 points, Cheektowaga maintained the top Class B Central spot for the playoffs and will be a No.

janowski and Mike Halferty. Not only did that running game produce nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns, but it also kept Cheektowaga and its standout offense — which entered the game averaging five touchdowns a night — off the field. “We were able to run the football and grind the clock out,” Buccieri said. “Running that clock, keeping that dynamic offense off the field

was huge for us.” Defensively, the Flyers were incredible as always. Maryvale forced three turnovers and collected seven sacks in holding the highpowered Warriors off the scoreboard until Ty Lawson’s 98-yard touchdown run with a little more than a minute left. Offensively, Maryvale’s dynamic committee backfield was at its very best.

Bojanowski collected a TD receiving and rushing in the first half and Austin Reamsnyder added a 17-yard scoring run to give the Flyers a 21-0 halftime edge. TD runs by Kwaine Davis and Raheem Doyle extended the lead in the second half. On defense, Mike Kelleher and Halferty collected two sacks apiece, while Andrew Crombie and Bojanowski added interceptions and

Derrick Derado recovered a fumble. Cheektowaga reached the red zone four times, but came away with no points each time. “We got some timely stops and some timely turnovers,” Buccieri said. “We bent on D but our guys stiffened up in that red zone and made some stops.”

A relaxing, fun and occasionally educational evening out is always an evening well spent, and when it all benefits a local organization, well, that’s even better. Reinstein Woods will be holding their annual wine, cheese and art event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 1 at the Knights of Columbus. The hall, located at 2735 Union Rd. in Cheektowaga, will be transformed into a tasting room and art hall where attendees will not only have the chance to sample some fine area wines, but to also peruse a variety

of nature-themed arts and crafts from area artisans. Tickets are $17 pre-event and can be purchases at the Reinstein Woods office or online at reinsteinwoods. org. Tickets are $20 at the door, and for those who purchase tickets after Monday, October 27, they will receive a printed confirmation and be able to pick up their tickets at the door. The proceeds from the event will go to benefit the educational center and programs run at the preserve. Because Reinstein Woods is all about education and sharing information about our local natural resources,

expect to walk away learning quite a bit about what you’re sampling and where it came from. “We always try to focus on ingredients that are grown and sourced locally,” says Meaghan Boice-Green, director of education at the center. “The program – which is run by our Friends – is a little bit educational as well as fun.” The wineries that will be on hand with samples of their finest wines are all local, and many of the appetizers and cheeses will feature local ingredients from milk and dairy products to locally gown herbs. In an age of fast food and processed meals, a reminder of the bounty that can be grown outside your doorstep is a

much needed one. There will also be a variety of local vendors and artisans there with their nature-themed items for sale. From paintings and photos to sculpture and jewelry, there’s bound to be something for everyone whether you’re just browsing for yourself or looking to take advantage of the event to do some early holiday shopping. Nature’s Gathering is one of the preserve longstanding events, and they’re looking forward to another successful evening filled with new and old friends, and the opportunity to share a little bit more with people about what they do at the preserve. Wendy Liebman’s got talent

By: Lauren Kirchmyer Did you watch this past season of “America’s Got Talent?” If you said yes, you probably have heard of stand-up comedian Wendy Liebman. After being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the show, judge Howard Stern selected Liebman as his wild card, allowing her to appear on the show one more time. Though it was magician Mat Franco who won season 9 of the competition, Liebman was able to bring her already successful career to new heights. The Long Island native’s stand-up career began after graduating from Wellesley College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She performed research at Harvard Medical School and worked as the assistant to the director at a fellowship program at Radcliffe College. One day, Liebman decided to look into taking a comedy class at The Cambridge Center for Adult Education in Cambridge, Mass. “I was reading the course catalogue when I saw, ‘How to Be a Stand Up Comedi-

Liebman became a regular on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and she appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” She was the first comedian to perform on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and has done comedy specials for HBO, Comedy Central and Showtime. Her most recent special, “Taller on TV,” celebrating her 50th birthday, aired on Showtime and is available on DVD through Amazon. Her comedy has allowed her to open for bigname stars like Ray Charles and Reba McEntire, and in 1996 she received the

American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup. Though Liebman has experienced multiple noteworthy moments in career, her most memorable moment was performing on “America’s Got Talent.” “Performing on stage at Radio City has been highlight of my career,” Liebman said. “More people saw me on that show than every other show I was ever on combined.” “America’s Got Talent” brought more exposure to Liebman’s name and knack for comedy, but what she couldn’t do on the show while on stage was interact with audience members. “My favorite thing is performing live in a club and getting gritty,” she said. “It’s
