There is a new face at The Buffalo Zoo, and Community Papers of WNY Inc. is partnering with the Zoo to welcome its first Zoo-born baby in some time: A baby giraffe. The male calf arrived in the middle of the night on Oct. 24, to first-time parents A.J, 5, and Moke, 3. Community Papers of WNY has planned a year of events and promotions, in conjunction with the Zoo, to welcome the newest addition to Western New York. A formal press release will

be released by the Zoo and CPOWNY on Dec. 15, announcing the still-anonymous baby’s name, as well as the reasoning behind its new moniker. The newspaper group and the Zoo are working together to host a series of events and contests, to coincide with the calf’s first year of life, and CPOWNY readers will be the first to know, and participate in, these promotions. Baby giraffes tend to remain with their parents until they are around about 22 months old, so the organization has plenty of time to spend with the new little one. Special events will include

a coloring contest, in which children in grades K-4 color a drawing of the baby giraffe and mother from a drawing template included in all community papers. A winner will be selected from each of CPOWNY’s 25 community newspapers by random drawing and each winner will receive a family pass for the Buffalo Zoo; two parents and two children. Next will be a contest for winning a named, baby giraffe plush animal, for sharpeyed readers. A series of eight billboards by Lamar of Buffalo are located throughout the Buffalo metropolitan area that feature the photo

A formal press release will be released by the Zoo and CPOWNY on Dec. 15, announcing the still-anonymous baby’s name. and name of the new Buffalo Zoo baby giraffe. The first family from each of the 25 community papers to correctly submit all eight route and cross-street billboard locations will receive the collectible baby giraffe. Outdoor billboards will be in place for six weeks, starting Dec. 15. According to CPOWNY

Director of Marketing Dr. Janet Gane, the baby giraffe’s arrival will be heralded by a year-long calendar of events, distributed by the 25 papers, as well as WNY Health Magazine, with a article focused on conservation and preservation of the animals’ natural habitats. “There’s a real concern about poaching of giraffes,

and other animals are also in danger,” Gane explained, “So, we want to make sure our readers are aware of that, as well as the first to know about this precious little one.”

The winter storm was hard on a lot of people, but the after-effects of the storm are far-reaching and, for some, can still be deadly. The storm didn’t just result in the closing of schools and businesses, it also meant the cancellation of 40 American Red Cross blood drives in the Western New York Area. That meant that more than 1,000 donations went uncollected in the days of the storm; for the Red Cross and the local hospitals, the timing couldn’t have been worse. “The need for blood is constant. Red Cross is also always in need of platelets. While a red blood donation can last up to 42 days in storage, platelets must be used within five days of the donation. Grandfather’s Big Band putting on a show at the Broadway Market By Debra Kelly

The holidays just aren’t the holidays without music, and there’s something about the big band era that just brings back memories. The 17-member Grandfather’s Big Band will be taking the stage at the Broadway Market from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20 – just in time to provide the perfect background for all the holiday shopping that will be going on at the market for their annual holiday festival. The market will be featuring local food, wines, arts and craft items, along with special seasonal vendors, and the chance to get pictures taken will Santa every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. But no holiday festival would be complete with-

out music, and that’s where groups like Grandfather’s Big Band come in. “We started with the goal of preserving and presenting the music of the big band era,” said Grandfather’s Fran Ostrander. “We want to introduce a whole new generation to this wonderful kind of music. It really brings back the days when people actually listened to the music. They held each other, and they danced.” For Ostrander, like many of the band members, it’s music that’s more than just a part of their lives, it’s music that’s a part of who they are. It’s memories of a different time, a simpler time, a time when young couples could head up to Crystal Beach and listen to the music of people like Glenn Miller, played by an orchestra who played from their heart and soul.

“We’re trying to recreate those feelings,” said Ostrander. December is a busy month for the group, both the 17-piece Grandfather’s and the smaller satellite octet, Seredipity Swing. In addition to the Broadway Market, they’ll also be performing at a handful of other places throughout the month – making sure that whenever you can get out to see them, they can spread some holiday magic. On Saturday night, Dec. 13, Serendipity Swing will be playing the Tralf with a vocal trio called the Buffalo Dolls in a show sponsored by Cheektowaga’s WECK radio station. On Wednesday, Dec. 17, they’ll be performing at the Amherst Senior Center, the Eden Heights assisted living facility on Friday, Dec. 19, and then to the Broadway Market. At the

end of the month, they’ll be finishing out the year with a performance at the McAuley assisted living residence from 3 to 4 p.m. For Ostrander, one of the most important things they can do is reach out to people and spark memories of another time. He sees it when they get caught up in the memories, and for the holidays season, that’s what it’s all about – remembering and making new memories. “I spent my whole life in finance,” he said. “Now, I’m back into music, and while music might not be the primary thing we all do with our lives, it what brings us all together. When it comes to making sure there’s plenty of presents for every member of the family this holiday season, we can’t forget man’s best friend. Fetch! For Jackie Lovern, the whole thing started with her own adopted miniature Schnauzer, Sargent Pepperoni. When she first brought Sargent into her home, she had asked her veterinar-

ian what kinds of food and treats were best for him. The vet suggested that she look into making her own so she knew exactly what she was feeding her dog, and she never looked back. “I started to do some research and all of the recipes that I found called for white or wheat flour,” she said. “Through extensive hours of research, I had learned that those particular grains were not the best for dogs. As it turns out, just like in humans, there are a large number of dogs that tend to be sensitive or allergic to wheat flour.” More research led her to oat flour, which doesn’t just have the negative reaction in many dogs, but also provides other nutritional benefits. For Lovern, it started something – she researches

each and every ingredient in her treats to make sure they’re not only safe for dogs, but provide some kind of nutritional benefit as well. Her treats were a hit with her dog, and pretty soon she found friends not only interested in what she was doing, but asking her for treats for their dogs, too. Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs recently held a “Thank-A-Vet” outreach event at D’Youville College in Buffalo to issue discount cards to honorably discharged veterans who file their original discharge papers with the clerk’s office. A number of student veterans registered in between classes for the clerk’s “Thank-A-Vet” discount card that can be used at over 1,000 participating local businesses that have agreed to honor the card with a discount on purchases or services.

“My office continues our effort to recognize the service and sacrifices made by Erie County veterans through this important program, including post-9/11 veterans who have recently returned from active duty,” Jacobs stated. “Certainly we want to do our part to honor all veterans and encourage them to record their discharge paperwork with the Erie County Clerk’s Office,” he added. For the veteran, filing discharge papers is free of charge and certified complimentary copies of recorded

discharges are made for veterans or their immediate families whenever needed. Original discharge papers are proof of military service and can be used to establish eligibility for a variety of benefits including property tax exemptions and civil service credits. Recently, Military Times Edge magazine ranked D’Youville College fourth in the nation as one of the best four-year colleges and universities for veterans. D’Youville was recognized because it offers numerous

benefits for their 250 student veterans, including the Post9/11 GI Bill. In many cases, veterans’ spouses and children are also eligible for certain services and benefits as well. Oxygen seeks cast for new docu-series By Lauren Kirchmeyer ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

The Oxygen Network is now casting men and women for their new docuseries “Finding My Father.” Asylum Entertainment, the company involved in casting the new series, is not casting just anyone who falls into this category; they’re looking for men and women who have overcome the statistics of growing up without a father. “We want people that are inspirational, people who are really doing something,” said Joey Gemelli, casting director.

According to the National Center for Fathering, children who grow up in fatherless homes are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, drop out of school, and become involved in crime and violent behaviors. This show will promote those who have worked hard throughout their lifetime to break through those statistics. “We’re looking for people who are doing something, people who have turned a negative into a positive,” said Gemelli, an alumnus of SUNY Buffalo State’s Television Department. “We want to give them final closure by getting to meet their father and ask the questions they

have been wanting to ask him. Dunkin’ Donuts today announced its partnership with one of America’s most iconic holiday toy collection drives through a third-year initiative with the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in Western New York. Dunkin’ Donuts announced its partnership with the Marine Corps Reserve for the 2014 Toys for Tots drive and the donation to the American Red Cross after concluding a campaign with an organization that provides support for local veterans. During Tuesday’s event at its restaurant, 2340 Delaware Avenue, Dunkin’ Donuts presented 500 pounds of coffee to the Veterans One-stop Center of Western New York. Celebrate with the Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra By Debra Kelly

The Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra will be holding their Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21 at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Sloan. The performance will be accompanied by a special guest vocalist, Taylor Harding. Harding, who is thrilled for the opportunity to perform with Cheektowaga’s symphony and to help continue on a tradition of holiday performances, is a vocal and general music teacher with the Rochester City School District. In addition to performing in venues like this throughout the Buffalo area, she’s also taken the stage in operas

like the Marriage of Figaro and Cinderella. She’ll be taking part in what’s become a very long and very successful tradition in the Cheektowaga Community. The orchestra has been bringing classical favorites to the stage for more than 50 years, after being founded in 1960 by the Town of Cheektowaga and with the cooperation of four school districts – Cleveland Hill, Maryvale, Cheektowaga-Sloan and Cheektowaga Central. The orchestra is currently conducted by John Landis, who took over in 1991. After his military service, Landis became associated with some of the premiere musical organizations in the area, including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Niagara Falls Philharmonic

and the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra. Afterward, he briefly spent time touring New Mexico and southern California as a conductor and university professor, before returning to Buffalo in 1990. A commitment from all the members to weekly rehearsals has – in part – helped continue the long-held tradition of not only bringing concerts to the community, but to exposing people of all ages to all different types of music. The orchestra has come a long way since its first few fledgling members and small concerts. Now, the orchestra is 70+ strong at any given time, and their concerts attract hundreds of people. Like many local and community organizations, the Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra needs

the support of the people they play for in order to keep doing what they’re doing. Contributions are always welcome, and although the concerts are free of charge, attendees are invited to give to the organization if they can. They’re also always looking for new members, and are especially in need of people who play string instruments. 2014-15 Basketball Preview

Cheektowaga boys hoops eyes second sectional title By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Cheektowaga Central High school boys basketball team was just looking to be competitive with the upper-echelon teams in Western New York. But those days are also over. The goals today are focused on championships and the warriors won the program’s first Section VI championship last winter - and with just about everyone back, that’s among the goals again this season. “Expectations aren’t what they used to be,” Warriors coach Pat Cullinan said. “They just used to show up thinking, ‘Well, whatever.’ Now we’re not

here just to be here, we have goals in mind. “Mediocrity isn’t in our vocabulary anymore. We want to come out and we want to perform.” Leading the way again for the Warriors will be its all-state tandem of guard Zak Ciezki and forward Dominick Welch. Ciezki, a fifth-year varsity player, hit possibly the biggest shot in the history of the program last season when his last-second 3-pointer beat Amherst in the Class B-2 Section VI championship game. He scored 15.4 points per game last season. Welch returns after scoring 19.5 points and adding 13.5 rebounds as a freshman. He was a 10th team all-state selection. Other senior standouts returning include forward/ guard Patrick Plummer, forward/guard Drequon Trotter and guards Devon Camel and Khaya Diodlo and forward Hakiem Black.

“We want to get that sectional championship again and win the division, too,” Ciezki said. “We have just about everybody back from last season, so we’re feeling really good about this season.” For years, the Warriors seemed on the cusp of big things and last year, they finally completed a major goal with the sectional title. Cheektowaga finished 16-6, losing to defending state champion McKinley in the Class A crossover game. This year ’s program wants even more. A division championship has eluded Cheektowaga in boys basketball for more than a quarter-century. Central expected to compete for the ECIC III crown with defending champion Amherst, which also returns the bulk of last year’s team. “We want to keep bettering Cheektowaga Central’s program,” senior Plummer said. “We take pride in

our school and we want to get some more championships. We have great talent here; I see a lot of potential for the season.” Success has become commonplace for many of these athletes. The bulk of the team also played for Cheektowaga’s football team, which won division, sectional and regional championships in the fall. “A lot of our kids are football players and it’s always a good thing when you can build off another season that was so successful,” Cullinan said. “And we have a lot of kids that are coming back from winning a sectional championship and they want it again.” And the Warriors hope the championship tradition remains for years and years to come. “We’re building a winning tradition here for the little guys coming up,” Camel said. “We’re going to keep working to win another one.”

She’s not a ball hog that’s going to try to go for 30 every night, she’s going to do what it takes to win.” Hopkins serves as a tricaptain along with senior forward guard Ma’rya Stone and junior guard DaJa’Vu Romer. The other returnee is

senior guard Khance Daniels and the only other senior on the squad is forward Sierra Kaufman. But, even though there are a lot of newcomers on the team, there is also plenty of talent. Cheektowaga will be counting freshman forward Ranya Rumph, who averaged 13.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in the Warrirs first two games, as well as eighth-grade guard Angel Parker, who averaged seven points per game in the first two contests.

Both are AAU standouts in the summer and expected to be a big part of the program going forward. Cheektowaga will also be expecting good minutes from a pair of juniors in Verliddia Jones and Ammber Spencer. “We’re optimistic,” said Garbacz, who has 10 years of previous basketball coaching experience at Cheektowaga. “We’re looking to play as a team this year ,we’re emphasizing the word work and the team part.”

Maryvale boys expect to be in the mix in tough ECIC III

The goals are always high for Mark Kensy and the Maryvale High School boys basketball team. ECIC III is as loaded as ever, key players have to be replaced and a good portion of the preseason was snowed out. But the Flyers still expect to be in the mix come season’s end. “I always have high expectations,” Maryvale’s veteran head coach said. “We have some shoes to fill but we’re working to get better. But the No. 1 expectation is that the kids are going to work their butts off.” It will be a different look for Maryvale. The Flyers have some shoes to fill entering the

season, following the graduation of Ed Smith, Jayln Putman and Logan Jung - the team’s top three scorers in 2013-14. “We’re working hard and, the bottom line is we have to reload,” Kensy said. “We lost our top three scorers from last year so we have to find some scorers for us.” Maryvale does have plenty of strong players back on board as always. Many of the standouts on the Flyers’ Class B Central tri-champion football team will be leaders on the football team as well. A strong group of guards will be key for Maryvale, including juniors Marcus Ford and Floyd Remley as well as seniors Eric Graham, Jeremia Pace, Andrew Crombie. Up front, the Flyers will turn to the likes of forwards Mike Kelleher and Steve Mason. But, that said, nobody is guaranteed of anything at this point. “Everybody’s going to play right now until we see what

we’ve got,” Kensy said following a practice just before Thanksgiving. “I believe that, we have 14 kids on the team and we’d like to believe we can put all 14 of them on the floor.” The Flyers were 12-8 overall last season and as usual reached Buffalo State and the Section VI semifinals where they lost to eventual B-2 champion Cheektowaga Central. But first things first and Maryvale is looking to fight for a championship in the always exciting ECIC III. “The league is always tough,” Kensy said. “Depew, Cheektowaga, Pioneer, Springville … nut I’d have to think Amherst is the front runner.” The Flyers will have to be ready from the get-to as a huge ECIC III challenge against rival Depew awaits on Dec. 12. Maryvale’s annual holiday tournament is Dec. 27 and 29 and also includes rival Cleveland Hill as well as Hamburg and Salamanca. All four teams got to Buff State last year.

When graduation was held last June for Maryvale High School, it officially ended the career of one of the greatest players in school history. And the loss of Ciara Rosten will be a difficult one for the Flyers’ girls basketball program to bounce back from this season. Rosten is now on the roster

for the University of Massachusetts women’s basketball team but her presence is still felt at Maryvale. “It’s impossible to replace her but Ciara worked so hard to get to where she is at now,” coach Tim Klimtzak said. “And she also set a good example to the young girls that are here now and they saw where she could go with all the hard work she put in during the offseason.” Rosten, a first-team All

Western New York selection, was arguably the best player in Western New York as a senior. She scored 22 points per game and grabbed 15.7 rebounds a night for the Flyers, who reached the sectional title game for the first time in program history. But even though Rosten has departed, the expectation for Maryvale is that the Flyers will continue the program’s upward trend. “I hope that’s the case,”

Klimtzak said. “We need someone to score, someone to pick up the scoring that Ciara gave us. Defensively, I think we’re pretty sound. I think scoring we’re going to have to find some all around. Girls that contributed a little bit last year are going to need to come out of their shells and try to be a little more aggressive this year.” Not only did Maryvale lose Rosten, but the Flyers also lost second-leading scorer Britny

Starzynski, a guard who tossed in 8.5 points per game and also ranked second to Rosten in rebounds with 109 and assists with 32. Samantha Farino (4.2 ppg, 27 assists, 16 steals) also graduated. Leading the returnees is team captain Deanna Davis, a third-year varsity player who grabbed 80 boards last season. Senior guard Kelsey Cadwallader, who played in all 20 games last season and scored 2.6 points per game

Sophomore Alexa Hoiensahl averaged 6.5 points in her six games last season and is looking for more this year. “Over the last three years, we’ve really made some progress,” Klimtzak said. “Last year, especially, getting to the finals was an experience for a lot of these girls. The expectations are sky high for the Cleveland Hill High School girls basketball team. After a strong regular season last year, the Eagles’postseason was cut short by a first-round upset. But everyone is back for the Eagles, who are determined not to be stopped this season. “We’re excited and motivated about this season,” sophomore guard Aviance Clark said. “We’re ready to win a championship this season.” The Eagles return everybody from last year’s club that finished 14-4 in the regular season. While the postseason may have ended early than expected with

a two-point loss to Falconer, this year, Cleveland Hill has hopes of holding the trophy at the end of the sectional tournament. “We have really high hopes this year,” coach Carrie Owens said. “We have everyone returning, we’re young and talented so we’re definitely going to be solid this year. I think we’re favorited by our peers and we’re looking to get back to sectionals and then bring it home this year.” The Eagles are led by a tremendous sophomore trio of Clark, Jayla James and Sydney Turley. After a championship season a year ago, the Cleveland Hill boys basketball team is looking to overcome some big graduation losses and remain among the elite small schools in Western New York. Sound familiar? That was the story for the Eagles football team in the fall and it’s the same in the winter in the gym. Cleveland Hill is seeking a fourth straight ECIC IV championship and

some new faces are poised to lead the way - just as they did in football. “We still have high hopes, too,” boys basketball coach Jason Przybysz said. “We had some ups and downs and faced a lot of adversity in football, some parts on our own. And I think we’re going to have similar season in basketball. It’s a tough division and we expect to compete.” Several key players graduated from last year’s Eagles team that finished 15-5 and reached the Class B-2 championship game,

including leading scorer Aaron Phillips and threeyear varsity starter Jared Watkins. But plenty of talent remains. Guard Anthony Sullivan and forward Jermaine Hairston lead the returnees after starting last season. Both are off to fine starts to this campaign as each averaged 15 points per game in the season-opening Lancaster Tournament and helped the Eagles finish second to the Class AA Redskins. “That’s our leadership group we’re looking to

mentor the younger kids,” Przybysz said. “We’re going to be relying on those guys a lot this year.” Others have also stepped into an expanded role such as senior guards Austin Barker and Zach Lewandowski. Several key junior varsity players from last year have also stepped up to the big-club, including Daytwon Burney, a forward who averaged 10.5 points per game in the Lancaster tourney. Junior forward Nick Gamble and junior guard Ramah Lassiter are also key newcomers.

Many of those same players were the standouts in football and now the basketball season is looking for similar results. “It’s one of those things that, it is a close group,” Przybysz said. “That’s one of the benefits of a small school. We don’t have a lot a lot of size this year so we’re going to have to rally around our athleticism as well as our teamwork and we really have to rally behind each other.” And the Eagles will be gunning for a fourth straight division championship and

another trip to Buffalo State College. Cleveland Hill basketball has grown in recent years into a program that’s competitive each and every year and this year’s group has no intentions of letting that standard fall. “It brings them into a situation where they want to own the program,” Przybysz said. “I’ve been coaching here for more than a decade and the style of coaching hasn’t changed. What has changed is the kids have bought into the style and they now own each year.”

Steve Sokolski isn’t going to predict how many wins and losses his John F. Kennedy girls basketball team will end up with by season’s end. But the Bears’ veteran coach can guarantee his girls will give it all they’ve got on a nightly basis. Kennedy will look to replace three starters from last year’s team, which will look to be competitive with some of the top small schools in the area.

“We have good players and they come every day ready to work,” Sokolski said. “And hopefully we’ll keep on improving and giving it our best shot, that’s all I ask.” The Bears finished last season at 5-12 and dropped their first sectional playoff game to Southwestern. JFK is looking to build on some of the success seen last year to improve on that mark. “We’re trying to be at least .500, we think we can do that,” Sokolski said. “I’d like to be one of the three upper-echelon teams - it would be a nice feather in our cap if we can beat a Cleveland Hill or an Eden or a Holland. That’s one of our guys.” The Bears do have some strong leadership with

tri-captains Jaclyn Smith, Rebecca Wesolowski and Elizabeth Vohwinkel. All three seniors have experience in the varsity starting lineup and will lead the young Bears this season. They’ve all been on the squad for a while,” Sokolski said. “They’re doing good things, being good leaders and doing the best they can. That’s all I can ask out of them.” Smith, a standout in multiple sports for JFK, led JFK with 14.1 points per game last season, highlighted by a last-second shot to beat Lackawanna on Jan. 16. Wesolowski returns to her starting point guard role after ranking second in both assists and steals on last year’s team. Vohwinkel is also expected to be a factor in her third

varsity season after scoring about 3.5 points per game a year ago. Junior forward/center Emily Klyzek was the sixth man for the Bears last season and steps into the starting lineup this season. Senior Emily Frajdofer is one of the team’s top outside shooters and classmate Sam Schultz is the tallest Bear and expected to contribute rebounding to a team that lost its top three rebounders from last year. Sophomore Toria Getz was called up from the junior varsity team during last season and is against expected to be a force in the post. “We’re working,” Sokolski said. “Everyone’s getting better and we’re just going to get out there and do the best we can.”

Senior-laden Bears expecting strong turnaround By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

It took until February for the John F. Kennedy High School boys basketball team to find the win column last season as the Bears endured a tough 2-17 campaign. Most of that team is back this season, however, and JFK is looking to use the lessons learned in what the Bears expect will be a vastly improved season. Kennedy lost just one player to graduation and has a strong senior class that is looking to lead to bigger and better things

for the Bears. “We have a lot of talent back and I think the guys feel it’s their turn this year,” coach Tony Krupski said. “The seniors are ready to atone for a tough season last year and they’re looking to lead us.” There are nine seniors on JFK’s roster and they’re all expected to contribute big things. Leading the way again for the Bears will be 6-foot-6 senior forward Joe Braniecki, who led the Bears in scoring (10.2 points per game) and rebounds (8.7 per game). Braniecki is expected to be a force inside and out

for JFK this season. “Joe’s got a nice shot, a nice touch from the perimeter but he can score from the inside, too,” Krupski said. “Joe’s got really good length and offensively and defensively, that’s a positive for us. We’re counting on big things from Joe this season.” In the post, JFK will turn to senior Josh McMahon, who stands 6-foot-3 and 210 points. He scored 9.5 points per game last season and added 7.3 rebounds a night. “He’s a pure post player, really good footwork and the initial thing I see is he knows when he can score

and when he needs to kick it out,” Krupski said. Senior Cale Byczkowski led the Bears in assists last season and added 8.2 points per night as well. Even more is expected this year. “Cale’s a leader and has some experience that should really help us,” Krupski said. “He’s a great ball-handler and he can play the off-guard too. He’s a stabilizing force out there for us and we’re counting on him too.” Those are the headliners of a senior class that also includes guards Hunter Kowal, Shawn McPhail, Dejuaine Strickland, Brendan Fox, Nathan

Pazderski and forward Collin Snyder. Guards Kenai Jordan, Andrew Matyjakowski and Michael Marcucci forward Stephon Parks represent the senior class for the Bears and forward Lexus Pollard is the varsity team’s lone sophomore. “I think we have a lot of guys that can play and that makes for really competitive practices,” Krupski said. “With that depth, everyone’s going to have to earn playing time.” The Bears started the season 0-13 a year ago before a Feb. 3 win at Alden. Four days later, the Bears got a home victory over Eden. Both wins were

by a single point. But most of the losses were tight as well as the Bears strong defense on most nights. A little bit more offense, JFK hopes, will bring a lot more success. “Despite the record, we were really competitive last year,” Krupski said. “We defended well and we were in most every game. Our inability to score really did hurt us in the long run. Into the second half of most games, we were right in there, but quite honestly weren’t good enough. We couldn’t score when we needed it and part of that was the inexperience, part of that was skill level.”

There’s a new pizzeria in town, but Chuck’s isn’t a newcomer to the Western New York restaurant scene. Recently, the pizzeria opened their second location at 142 French Rd. in Cheektowaga after finally giving in to popular demand – and really, there’s no better reason to think about opening a second location than by the request of your customer base. The original location at 35 North St. in Buffalo has a wide base of corporate and commercial customers. Offices, stores and entire companies would order from them for their

There was going to be a little bit of everything, and that everything was going to be good every single time it went out the door. Chuck’s offers pick-up and delivery services and there’s also a dining area with seating for up to 50 people – making it the perfect place to stop and try while out doing holiday shopping. Part Time Classified Advertising Service Representatives About the Job The Community Papers of WNY has immediate openings within its Cheektowaga office for part-time Classified Advertising Service Representatives to handle inbound and outbound calls, input advertising copy and to provide outstanding service to our Community Papers of WNY classified advertisers. The ideal candidates will have exceptional customer service, experience in a fast paced office, the ability to key stroke at a minimum of 40 wpm, have exceptional spelling, grammar and organizational skills and the strong desire to help our classified advertisers and support our outside sales representatives. The part time work schedule generally will include 4-6 hours shifts, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
