Jim Barrie wants to share his love for SCUBA diving, so he’s letting everyone try it for free. His dive shop, The Scuba Shack, (www.TheScubaPlace.com ) located in Florence, is offering a free “Try SCUBA Experience” to anyone interested in diving. “SCUBA diving is not a sport. It’s not a hobby. It’s a lifestyle! We want to expose as many people as we can to this exciting way of life.” Barrie said. The Scuba Shack conducts free one-hour dives every Saturday. Barrie has owned The Scuba Shack for 11 years, and in that time has been told by countless people that they would love to try diving. He knows that if they do, they’ll love it! So he wants to give them the opportunity.
n k y. c o m
All those who would like to try SCUBA diving will be geared-up and go for a dip in The Scuba Shack’s indoor, heated, 10 foot-deep, diver training pool. The dives are led by The Shack’s certified instructors. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 859-2831550. The Scuba Shack also offers SCUBA certification training. Through comprehensive classroom and pool training, divers learn proper technique, safety measures, and how to use the equipment. Divers certified at The Scuba Shack are given unlimited training classes at no extra charge. The Shack also provides unlimited access to their pool and use of SCUBA equipment for
certification students. Once certified, a diver is ready to go on one of the shop’s many trips to dive locations in the United States and abroad. In the next 14 months, The Shack will lead trips to locations such as: St. Lucia, Hawaii, Bonaire, Cozumel, Florida, Fiji, and the Bahamas. Pricing varies by destination. Many trips are enjoyable for both divers and non-divers, so the diver can easily bring a spouse or friend. However, trips specifically for divers are noted. “There’s nothing quite like a group trip” said Barrie. “Both divers and non-divers come back with a group of new friends, having seen some of the world’s most beautiful locations” he said.

A healthy mouth equals a healthy body Dr. Tiffany BullerSchussler thinks what she does is "pretty cool." Her work involves more than giving people a pretty smile. It involves restoring mouths to optimal health as a component of a healthy body. "Research has shown that the health of the mouth has an impact on the overall health of the body," Dr. Schussler explained. "We aren't about cosmetics here. We don't sell dentistry. Instead we advocate for healthy mouths." How cool is that! She and her staff are dedicated to educating patients on the importance of good oral care. "We perform a thorough assessment of each patient, diagnose any oral conditions, develop a treatment plan that controls inflammation and disease, and make a plan to keep their mouth healthy," she said. According to Dr. Schussler, it's important to come in for screenings not only to catch a problem, but to foresee and prevent future problems that can cause pain and become costly to restore. So what keeps a person from going to the dentist? The top reason is fear but you don't have to be afraid anymore. "We treat each patient as if they are a member of our own family," explained Dr. Schussler. "We want people to feel comfortable when they come in to our office and we'll work with them to ensure their comfort." Dr. Schussler talks to all of her patients, explains all procedures

I went to IU then I have succeeded, and that sense of success makes me feel very good," she explained. But most importantly, through education and gentle counseling, patients are shown how to become their own dental health advocate. "People should be aware of their bodies," Dr. Schussler said. "Education is key. If we don't educate people on how to take care of their mouths, it starts a vicious cycle. We are able to help them realize what is the problem, why it is a problem, and how to prevent it from getting worse." The goal, she explained, is to get the mouth healthy again and a head off any problems so that a person's oral health can be maintained. Dr. Schussler has been practicing for 12 years, but has been interested in dentistry since she was 9 years old. "As a young child I had

My interest is as keen now as it was then. She opened her Hebron practice two years ago and has enjoyed every moment. “Providing care is wonderful but interacting with my patients, learning about them and developing rela-
tionships with them is what makes me come to work every day," she said. Dr. Tiffany BullerSchussler has convenient office hours including two evenings per week, and Saturdays. When is the last time you felt like you had a good night’s sleep? Believe it or not many people wake up from a full nights sleep feeling tired? How can that be? I got tired, I went to bed, and I woke up tired! Well it takes more than sleeping to rejuvenate your body: It takes rest. Rooftime is Top of the House for your repair needs Roof repairs keep the phones ringing of the hook at Rooftime at this time of year. “We stay steady all year, even over the winter,” said Office Manager Sandy Feltner. “But from now till Thanksgiving, we are really busy.” Rooftime does more than just Owens Corning roof systems. “We are certified as a Top Of The House contractor by Owens Corning, one of only three here in our area,” she continued. “So we get a lot of calls about attic insulation, siding, and gutter toppers, but roof calls lead the way.” “Our roof calls include what other roofers have installed incorrectly and are now leaking, to a roof that needs replacing, and everything in between. Fifty percent of calls are due to some roofer’s poor workmanship, and fifty percent from a roof that reached its life expectancy.”
To avoid ever becoming part of the 50 percent that are leaking, she advises homeowners to consider a company’s Better Business Bureau file, an Angie’s List Super Service Award, and references that a homeowner can call and check. “We are a non-licensed industry, unlike plumbers and electricians and that opens the door for poor workmanship and roofs being replaced when only a repair would have worked,” she said. Many roofing companies don’t like to deal with repairs “because there’s no money in it” or they don’t like trying to fix someone else’s mistake. But Rooftime has no problem
diagnosing a roofs problem and bidding a repair, if it’s all that is needed. “It’s the building block of our company,” she says. “Most folks who we do repairs for call us back when other work needs to be done. We build a relationship and that evolves into other work - siding, gutter protection, and attic insulation. “Our three estimators do not earn commissions, so they only bid what you need, if a couple hundred dollar repair will fix your home, we won’t try to tell you differently.” Five of the most common roof repairs Rooftime gets include: Missing shingles, A
piece of shingle in the yard is an obvious sign. But in many cases, homeowners don’t know there’s a problem until a stain or spot shows up on the ceiling inside. The best way to prevent a leak is to get the roof inspected every couple of years. “Rooftime offers free estimates that can include color digital pictures and a thermal camera scan to pinpoint any problems! “Flashing leaks, most often, leaks occur in the flashing area, where metalwork is installed at any penetration detail on the roof, spots where proper workmanship is especially important, for example, a
chimney, a skylight, a pipe boot, or a wall. “The gutter system is only as good as the way it is installed,” Sandy said. “We find a lot of gutters improperly fastened to begin with so they loosen quickly.” Gutters are first cleaned, and then properly secured, making sure the pitching is right for drainage and that the end caps and miters are sealed to prevent leaking. Skylights, A skylight that needs to be replaced or one that has been compromised in some manner usually brings a Rooftime crew out. Rooftime see page 11

Concrete lifting: Attractive alternative to replacement Matracia Contracting, Inc. would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the concrete lifting process. Concrete lifting is a process in which a concrete slab is raised back to its original position. It is the economical alternative to tearing out and replacing concrete.
Your concrete is lifted by drilling one or more holes into the surface of the concrete slab, and pumping a cement-based material through the holes. This fills any voids and displaces any standing water under the slab which may have occurred by settling or rodents burrowing under it.
Pumping is continued until enough material is pumped under the slab to raise it back to its original position. The cement-based material is a sandy loam containing lime and cement. It is non-toxic and environmentally safe. This process works on any concrete slab, side-

Rooftime from page 9 A lot of roofers don’t like to deal with skylights because they are somewhat complicated and often come from many different manufacturers. Skylights have come a long way and you should be OK as long as you have a good quality window with proper installation on a pitched roof. Ventilation, Insulation, Radiation, a repair often found in the summer occurs in homes that are older and need to be properly balanced for proper air flow. If you don’t have good
air flow through the attic; shingles will prematurely fail and cause leaks. The sun beating down on the roof raises the surface temperature by 20-40 degrees DAILY! The last thing you want is for the underside of the roof to be heated and “cooking.” Having at least 20 inches of attic insulation and a radiation barrier will reduce the inside attic temperature by 50 degrees, making your home cooler and the AC working less, saving your energy bill! Kentucky Home Crafters adds value to your home There are lots of reasons to be concerned about the housing market these days, and if you own your own home you probably understand how the value of your home has been effected. Most professionals who know about these things, report that the majority of home owners are remodeling the house they live in instead of moving. The staff at Kentucky Home Crafters, a handy-
man and remodeling company in Northern Kentucky, have seen this trend toward fixing instead of selling for some time now. Experts say that remodeling your bathroom and especially your kitchen will raise the value of your home considerably. Then there is the unfinished basement. When you remodel your unfinished basement you add hundreds of
square feet of living space to your home and that adds lots of value. Kentucky Home Crafters has been adding value to homes for more than 16 years. Their low rates and discount program are a big hit with home owners in today's market. Kentucky Home Crafters recognizes that the remodeling dollar has to go much further than it ever did before. So they want prospective cus-
tomers to know about the unique way they quote jobs. When you meet with one of the experienced craftsman from Kentucky Home Crafters, he will talk with you about your project and make any money saving suggestions that may help reduce the overall cost of your project. Next, he will give you a quote for the cost of labor to get your project completed.
He will then estimate the cost of materials separate from the cost of labor...and for good reason. Unfortunately, some companies will give you a quote that is the combination of labor and materials. What customers don't realize is that sometimes the materials are marked up 30, 50 or even 100 percent. Kentucky Home Crafters will never mark up materials, you can spend as much as you want on the quality and brand or buy materials on sale, it's up to you. Just remember, once the labor quote is given, it will not change but the material costs can change based on the materials you choose. Kentucky Home Crafters also wants you to know about their warranty. Most handyman warranties are for 1-year. Their's happens to be the longest warranty among all the handyman companies, 18 months. They feel that if the work is done right, it should last longer than a year...shouldn't it? So don't hesitate to call Kentucky Home Crafters and take a look at their current discounts and low price’s. You can reach them at 630-4065 and don't forget to ask about any specials that might be going on for the month.

Changing people’s lives with a smile at Gentle Dentle Can a life be changed simply by a smile? The Gentle Dental Care team and their patients say yes. One case in particular comes to mind for Kim Fisk, new patient coordinator and dental assistant. “The case was recommended to us by an organization,” she explains. “We donated the time, materials and service.” The gentleman who needed the work had missing and decayed teeth. “He was very self-conscious about his appearance and it was effecting his entire life,” Kim says. His teeth were removed and a “beautiful” denture was put in the same day. “He was very emotional,” Kim says. “He was so grateful that he could finally smile. He really looked amazing!”

However, what really sets Gentle Dental Care apart from all other practices is the caring staff. “We encourage our patients, as well as comfort,” Fisk says. “For those who are fearful we let them know that we are genuinely proud of them for coming in. This care, is what makes us different, it’s the reason why we have patients drive all the way from West Chester to see us for treatment.” Call Gentle Dental Care today at 859-363-1616 to “Experience the Difference.”

Celebrate the sounds of your life by hearing them Did you know that hearing loss is the third most common health problem in the United States? Hearing loss affects more than 36 million Americans today, and with the rise in use of headsets and earbuds, the number of Americans who experience hearing loss at a younger age is growing. Untreated hearing loss can negatively impact your social and emotional well-being, thus decreasing your quality of life. Signs of hearing loss include having trouble hearing conversations in a noisy environment or on the telephone, being unable to hear people talk to you without looking at them, or experiencing
ringing in your ears. Hearing problems are commonly associated with the normal aging process, but can also be caused by exposure to loud noises (work, recreation, or military), ear infections or trauma, illness or certain medications, and ear drum/inner ear damage caused by foreign objects like cotton swabs. In celebration of Better Hearing Month this May, Christopherson & Clark Hearing Center is offering complimentary hearing consultations to assess your hearing health. Owner and audiologist Sharon Christopherson has more than 30 years of experience in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating
hearing problems. She has earned the confidence of her patients by helping them select the best treatments for their hearing loss, lifestyle, and budget and by fully and honestly discussing with them their options. Sharon and her associate, Amy Smith, would like to extend to you the same professional, courteous, and personalized care their patients have come to know and trust. If you are missing the sounds of your life, call us today at 598-9444 to schedule your free hearing evaluation or to request your free copy of the Consumer's Guide to Hearing Aids.
