Don’t let anxiety rule your life.
Anxiety Disorders: Very Common, very Treatable For many, anxiety starts with a thought. A thought you just can’t shake. Whether this thought is about something terrible happening to you, your kids or even your future, it’s the kind of thought that gets in the way of everything. It’s the thought you wish would go away, but no matter how hard you try to “just don’t think about it,” it keeps coming back. What’s worse, that thought could be keeping you from sleeping, enjoying time with loved ones, or causing you to miss out on too many good moments in your life. This is anxiety. Then comes a fast heart beat, sweat, wide open eyes, the desire to run away and for some people even nausea or feeling that they’re going crazy. Some people feel faint

and some even feel like they might be dying. This is panic. No one likes anxiety and most do whatever they can to avoid the panic. This could include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) symptoms like washing hands or checking things for the millionth time or even hoarding. For others this could include avoiding places like highways, air travel, social engagements, bridges, supermarkets or even avoiding going outside the home (agoraphobia). Treating anxiety and panic disorders has been Katkin & Associates’ specialty for more than two decades. With a cognitive behavioral approach, they have been highly successful helping motivated clients overcome anxiety and return to a normal,

Meier’s Wine Cellar’s great wine makes a great gift Meier’s Wine Cellars Inc. retail store has all the wines that Meier’s makes at their Silverton winery. The century old facility makes table wines, dessert wines, vermouths, sparkling wines and nonalcoholic sparkling juices and all are available at the winery store. Shoppers will find 11 kinds of table wines including fruity style Concord and Catawba wines, semi-sweet and sweet wines. The table wines are made from Lake Erie fruit from select growers who provide the highest quality fruit Meier’s can find. You will also find fruit wines like blackberry, black cherry and raspberry. The blackberry is made from Oregon fruit and is the most popular fruit wine sold in the store. Meier’s is best known for its dessert wine selections. Meier’s No. 44 Cream Sherry is aged three winters and three summers in once used whisky barrels outside. This aging process along with the proprietary blending, brings out the wonderful raisiny and nutty character that distinguishes Meier’s sherry from all others. The No. 44 Ruby Port is also barrel aged indoors until it reaches its full fruit character and heavy body that makes it the gold medal winner it is. Meier’s sparkling wines are made in the traditional charmat process that has proven to be the best way to make its gold medal winning Chateau Reiem Spumante. Along with spumante there is a brut style sparkling wine,

extra-dry and pink sparkling wine. All a little more sweeter than the first. These wines are very affordable for special holiday celebration or as a gift for friends and neighbors. Meier’s gift shop has a selection of wine related items and winemaking supplies for home winemakers. Think of Meier’s for holiday party ideas, they have a wonderful party room that can be rented for small parties up to 125 people. It is a great place for bridal showers, birthday parties, office meetings and other special intimate events. Ohio’s history in winemaking took root along the Ohio River near Cincinnati more than 100 years ago. Meier’s Wine Cellars Inc. began in the late 1800s as a small grape juice business. John Michael Meier once grew his grapes on land now known as the Kenwood Towne Center. His son, John Conrad Meier, discovered in 1895 a method of bottling fresh grape juice and formed the John C. Meier Grape Juice Company Inc. Around the turn of the century, land was purchased in Silverton, Ohio, along the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad line. During prohibition, the company prospered making sparkling Catawba grape juice. The company returned to making wine after prohibition’s repeal in 1933. In 1938, the company’s articles of incorporation were formally amended and the company was renamed Meier’s Wine Cellars Inc. In 1941, land was purchased on North Bass Island (Isle St. George) in Lake Erie and most the company’s grape

Get energy savings while you can for 2010 Time is running out to take advantage of the 2010 tax credit for making your home more energy efficient. According to the experts at Roof Time there is still time for a free energy attic check-up, and to get any needed work completed before the time is up. Insulating your attic with Owens Corning insulation qualifies you for a tax credit up to a $1,500 until the Dec. 31 deadline. Using a thermal image camera (like the ones the cable TV ghost hunters use) and digital ther-
mometers, Roof Times’ estimators can pinpoint the problem areas that hide under your roof. A New Roof Time is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor and has obtained the added certification as a TOP OF THE HOUSE roofer-attic insulator (with only three locally.) They are members of the Better Business Bureau and have an A+ rating on Angie’s List (they have won the Super Service Award every year since 2006). A free Roof Time quote includes options for making the existing roof venti-
lation system meet or exceeds FHA specifications; increases the attic insulation to the Department of Energy recommended level of R-60, and a radiant barrier that reduces the attic’s temperature by as much as 50 degrees every day. Using these techniques Roof Time knows that homeowners can extend their roof’s life, make their home quieter and more comfortable, and reduce monthly utility bills by 20 to 30 percent. Owens Corning’s fiberglass insulation material is clean, non-allergenic and
resistant to mold, and will never settle. The material is treated with an aloe to prevent skin irritation. It will leave your attic clean and your home much more comfortable, and never get that old “wet newspaper smell” in your home the way cellulose insulation often does. An average insulation job costs less than $1,200, so by combining the tax credit and the savings from smaller energy bills, insulation can pay for itself in two years! According to the D.O.E. 25 percent of a home’s energy is lost
through the attic/roof, compared to only 10 percent through walls. Insulating your attic is the least expensive way to cut energy costs and provides the largest return. In addition to savings, you’ll prolong the life of your air conditioner and furnace. You’ll also have a more comfortable home that has increased in value, should you ever want to sell. Visit www.newrooftime.com or call Missy at 513-753-TIME (8463) to get a free inspection of your roof, attic insulation, siding or gutter system!

What you’re looking for in a new home could be right under your feet With the housing market still unsettled, many homeowners concerned about losing money at time of sale are staying put and improving or expanding their existing living spaces rather selling their homes. Many real estate professionals believe that this is a sound decision. Not only do homeowners benefit from gaining additional square footage of living space today, but they also increase the value of their home. When the market turns around, their property is more valuable. Mother-in-law suits, teen suites, man caves, sewing rooms, entertainment areas, basements turned into family rooms, decks turned into real living space, playrooms, and media rooms are great investments when done properly. “Adding space and major remodeling projects can be tricky,” according to Brian Martin, partner in J.K.Best Construction. “When adding living space to any home, the key is to create additional
living spaces that are architecturally compatible with the original structure.” He added that remodeling projects that are not completed with exacting care often turns off prospective buyers when the time comes to sell. J.K.Best takes exacting care to be sure that rooflines, transition points, common walls, lighting, and colors are well matched and that nothing detracts from this blending the new with the old. Because it is helpful to homeowners to have a second opinion when it comes to design and color, J.K.Best provides onehour of consultation free prior to beginning work on any major project. “Homeowners like being able to talk to a professional design and color expert,” Martin said. “In the end, the homeowner still makes the final decision.” For information about expanding your home the best way, contact J.K.Best at 239-8400.

Even guys can enjoy the treat, as many salons and spas now offer pedicures designed to pamper men’s feet. Foot massage – A foot rub can be the ultimate way to decompress after a stressful and tiring day. Or, you can start your day with an invigorating massage. You can give the gift of a good foot massage in several ways, such as a gift certificate to a spa. Or, make the good feelings last even longer by giving a home massager. Lovely lotions – It doesn’t take much for overworked, tired feet to become dry, cracked and uncomfortable. Nearly three quarters of Americans suffer from dry, rough, cracked or irritated skin, the APMA reports. More than any other part of the body, the foot cries out for soothing moisture. You can find quality lotions, polishers and foot scrubs in supermarkets, drug stores and department stores, or from a plethora of online resources. Look for ones that offer optimum moisturization and an aroma that
mimic the recipient’s favorite scent – many people find peppermint and vanilla particularly pleasing for foot lotions. Insoles for the soul – Sadly, style and comfort aren’t always in lockstep with each other, and we often wear shoes that look good but don’t feel good on our feet. In fact, the APMA cites poorly fitted, uncomfortable shoes as a major source of foot pain for many people. Fortunately, a host of high-tech shoe inserts has made it easier to ease the discomfort caused by shoes. Insoles can help cushion and support the foot while easing chafing in problem areas. You can even find varieties with gel inside or ridges that purport to massage feet while the wearer walks. Tips for protecting your pet during the holidays Well, it is time for the fun holiday season. Thanksgiving, with all the wonderful food more than any dog could possibly imagine, is just around the corner. Sometimes those visiting want to feed the canine members of the family, so they goodheartedly share the bounty. I think it is important, howev-
er, to remember that dogs’ stomachs are different than our stomachs and usually the food we eat at Thanksgiving is inappropriate for them. It can cause intestinal upset, which usually means diarrhea and sometimes vomiting, which you will have to clean up. A little turkey might be OK but please no dressing or cran-
berry sauce. Christmas brings different possibilities such as ripping open boxes and eating wrapping paper and cardboard. Don’t forget the tree ornaments as they are very tempting tasty toy for a dog – the likes of which they have not had before. Please remember that puppies are not usually good Christmas
presents. They are usually bought without a lot of thought and when the cuteness wears off we find ourselves contributing to the homeless dog problem. Remember these tips as you celebrate this, the most wonderful time of the year. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
Clermont Senior Services is ‘one-stop’ shopping for services One of the things people appreciate most about CSS is that it basically provides “one-stop shopping” for senior services. Besides Meals On Wheels, the agency provides transportation, homemaking, personal and respite care, adult day care, home repair, support groups, and lifelong learning centers! They practically have a “smorgasbord” of services. Clermont Senior Services offers a wide variety of services to help seniors live at home for as long as possible, and help caregivers take care of themselves. Services are available on a donation basis and there is never a waiting list for Meals On Wheels. And if CSS doesn’t provide a service that you need, they probably know who does. The intake staff is knowledgeable on all the services offered in Home Health Aide Dianne Turner regularly visits Clermont Senior Services customers Leroy Clermont County. and Elsphtha Uhrig and tends to their personal needs.
