WOW of Inholland

The connection of Inholland University of Applied Sciences Sophie is part of the communication team of the Delft branche and explains how the project originated. “Last year, we organized the Inholland Summer Week. All social media activities were bound to each location and I envisioned an overarching concept. We made that happen and wanted to repeat it this year!”. Jorinde is responsible for Inholland’s social media content and also finalizing her last year of studies. She mentions: “Each location comes up with their own plan. This particular project shows that a cooperation is indeed possible!”. The project, a card game with compliments printed on it, was handed out to students and colleagues of Inholland. “Actually, the idea was to repeat the Summer Week idea in the last months of the year: Inholland Winter Week. This time, we wanted to add a gift concept. However, the situation around corona and lack of time made that impossible.”, Sophie explains. “Jorinde came up with the idea

to safe that budget for a gift concept in 2022. We chose Compliments Day as great moment.” “We chose Compliments Day because we’d all been dealing with corona and lockdowns lately.”, Jorinde elaborates. “Luckily, that situation changed, but we used to communicate online all the time. People really needed an extra act of kindness.” After the girls decided to go for compliment cards, Rosalie became involved. She is also part of the Inholland communication team, but is an illustrator as well. She was the one designing the card game. What did she have to take into consideration? “The core values of Inholland are ‘personal and close’. It was important these were visible within the card game. There are multiple ways to do this. Think about adding a leaflet to explain more about these values.”, Rosalie explains.

About Inholland Those that studied in one of the big Dutch cities know the name Inholland. This university of applied sciences has branches all over the country and offers education for students and professionals and conducts practical research. Rosalie, Sophie and Jorinde all work within the communication department of Inholland and specialize in social media. They’re all based in a different office, but teamed up for a valuable project. After the lockdowns late 2021, they wanted to rebuild the connection between students and employees and came up with a pack of compliment cards. Compacon helped them realize this great idea.

The girls already worked out the concept quite well. So, what was the role of Compacon? “We needed Compacon to develop the cards. Coming up with an idea is one thing, but making it happen for 30.000 students and colleagues is a different ball game.”, Jorinde explains. “We were in contact with Bert-Jan, account manager at Compacon, before and this was really valuable. Developing a nice idea into a suitable gift within budget can be challenging. “Compacon came up with some great solutions that are pretty much similar to our original idea.”, Sophie says. “BertJan did come up with some advice on, for instance, the print design. He really though along with us!”. Rosalie agrees with this: “I was in direct contact with Bert-Jan about the design. This enables me to get his feedback during the design process. I knew when I was on the right track and could export the file once the design was completely final. Very pleasant cooperation!”. Rosalie was able to portray Inholland’s core values into the card game quite well. “You can truly see the connection, which is beautiful. The package shows two hands with the palms facing each other. The game is meant to compliment yourself, but also give a compliment to others. The package design embodies this idea very well.”

Over 30.000 students and colleagues of Inholland received the game at their home addresses. Another situation in which Compacon offered a helping hand. “We were still dealing with corona, so we couldn’t ask people to come pick up the game at the school. Being able to send the game to their homes was vital.”, Jorinde explains. “Luckily, Compacon made sure all games were delivered.” According to Sophie, Jorinde and Rosalie, there were very few improvements to be taken into consideration for a future project. “The who cooperation and especially the communication was just amazing.”, Jorinde says. No project is perfect, however. “In the future, we will take sustainability into consideration more.”, Sophie explains. “Being sustainable is more important than ever. Also gift concepts like this game should be good for the planet. Last year, we handed out a hamam towel to Inholland colleagues. These were designed in a sustainable manner. Compacon can support us with this in the future.” This project surely reached its goal. Rosalie, Sophie and Jorinde not only made the connection between the three of them stronger, but also ensured a connection between the 30.000 Inholland students and colleagues.
