Bara EDR Clay The naturally unique plataeu clay for horticulture
Bara EDR Clay
The clay that makes a difference Bara EDR Clay is a high performance clay with excellent natural properties. It has been used by substrate manufacturers and growers for years all over the world. The product is chosen for its strength also during extreme conditions. Our plateau clay has a unique mixture of minerals. Since the clay originates from the ice-age meltwater lakes, it has never been exposed to chlorides. The special mineralogical composition makes it unique and powerful.

WOK (Water Uptake Characteristic) To have a substrate with high water uptake capacity is really important for the Grower. The substrate should take up water quickly and evenly to optimize the irrigation time. The strongly hydrophobic peat surface often have problems with long irrigation times and uneven distribution of moisture in the substrate.

The high content of Illit and smectite mineral as in Bara EDR Clay cover the peat surface and make the substrate strongly hydrophilous. This means that substrates with Bara EDR Clay take up water quickly and evenly. A substrate with 5-6% Bara EDR Clay makes a really big difference in the Water Uptake Characteristic (WOK), see the diagram.

A high Cation Exchange Capacity in the substrate benefits the Grower by holding nutritions in the substrate longer and are not washed out. In outdoor production, as much as 1/3rd of the nutritions can be washed out of the pots. Having a substrate with high cation exchange capabilities makes the substrate highly flexible on distributing the nutritions.

High P-buffering Capacity A high anion exchange capacity in the substrate is as important as a high CEC. A substrate with high P-buffering capacity can make a real difference in the uptake of Phosphorus. Growers have found that this supports and increases the plants root system and plant tissue. The easily mobile Phosphorus is often washed out from the substrate, which is bad for both the plants and the environment.

High content of Silicon For a lot of plants Silicon is a sensitive nutrition. Some cultures are more sensitive than others. If the Silicon is easily available in the substrate, then the roots can take up as much as they need. Silicon ensures that the plants become both strong and healthy. Bara EDR Clay is a natural and clean clay that is rich in Silicon because it’s plateau clay. A substrate with 4-6% Bara EDR clay increases the Silicon content in roses plant tissue.
Naturally clean and natural pH buffering It’s important to all Growers that the additives and substrates are free from heavy metals, chemicals or other substances that may harm the sensitive plant roots. It’s also a must that the pH value stays balanced over the growing period. Bara EDR Clay is a pure, untainted plateau clay free from chlorides, sodium and heavy metals. The natural and long lasting calcium content carbonates - stabilizes the pH levels over the growth period.
Balancing and stabilizing the pH over the growth period.
RHP certified
Bara EDR Clay has been RHP certified since 1998. Bara EDR Clay is heated to 95 degrees C – safe, dry and easy to handle, easy to distribute in the peat.
