OL . familyTown
The north harbour of the city was recently reconverted with a housing and harbour promenade project. The south harbour (Södra Hamnen) has still an old industrial character, partially inactive, blocking the relation between the city and the water front. The city could live to the water but for this, the south harbour needs to be reconverted making easy the chose of the extreme south of the south harbour as the intervention area in this project.

why not in Copenhagen? Copenhagen… (uhm…) what about the ? Why not? It is an idea… What could be the ’s role in the OL? Helsinborg is related with Helsingør through the ferry and in the future by a tunnel, so it works as a gate to this region, but it is also a pleasant and quiet city with an historic layer. These characteristics give the city potential to receive the temporary accommodation during the OL that after would be converted into a family town. This way not only the specific purpose of use for the OL in being take into account but also the future utilization of the space to avoid a non functional discarded use. For this it is important to keep in mind the transforming processes and adaptability concepts.
.SequenceDiagram 1.2.3.4 diferentComponentes of the strategy
The family town is established in this area based in strong vertical and horizontal connections. It works as a driving force of development, is a new centrality and an out to inside generator. The vertical connection is based on the existing proposal for a tram while the horizontal connection has two components, the pedestrian pathways and a low traffic car line. This communication network allows the connection to the Ramlösa station, the city behind it and to the city centre. As a strategy two patterns were considered for the family town. One more rational and the other more organic, used separately and as a mixture. This concept is used from the global to the detail and vice versa. As a parallel process was tried to find the pattern unity (DNA) never forgetting the global concepts.

The project tries to define the coast line cutting it and creating new channels. This invasion of the land creates new dynamics and relations between the city and the sea. The isolated existing green areas are connected by a green corridor that allows dragging the green and invading the city/harbour.

With this project the rehabilitation of the harbour is considered, preserving the old structures as well as the industrial character of the area. How to do it? How to activate the harbour area, converting it into a place adjusted to the interests of this contemporary society, population of Kolding and the Triangle Area, but without loosing this industrial character and attracting the persons from the rest of the city at the same time? The main goal is to create generators, units specifically placed in the harbour, to create dynamics by itself and between them. These units should dialogue in between and with the surroundings. This dialogue may have physical representations like trails and paths for bikes and pedestrians. The results may also be visual, created by the observed relation between the units and their location and shapes. Finally the required and wanted attraction from the surroundings will come naturally with the location of the units. Each unity will then have a different relation with the different elements present (sea, city, supporting structure - HOST). The units will be dependent on their location and their programs/functions and this will result in different unit expressions (shapes, spatial organization, facades and “skins”). A larger diversity will arise, answering to the also larger diversity characteristic from the contemporary society. Each different unit is a different generator grabbed to a base structure, this is the PARASITE CONCEPT. But contrarily to natural parasites, these parasites will not absorb the qualities from the host, this one acts only as a support. They will generate good qualities in the old industrial structure gradually renewing it. The purposed units will almost have a pill effect on these sick bodies that are the old industrial structures.

Parasitism is an intimate and obligatory relationship between two heterospecific organisms during which the parasite, usually the smaller of the two partners, is metabolically dependent on the host.
with
T.C. Cheng - General Parasitolgy. Academic Press 1986.
It is clearly difficult to define parasitism precisely. It is a relationship between two species populations. The essential features are that the parasite is physiologically dependent on the host, that it has a higher reproductive potential than the host, and that it is capable ultimately of killing heavily infected hosts, and that the infection process tends to produce an overdispersed distribution of parasites within the host population. C.P. Kennedy - Ecological Animal Parasitology. Blackwell Scientific 1975. pære,sait - [par-uh-sahyt] –noun
A parasite is an organism which has a detrimental effect on the intrinsic growth rate of its host population. R. M. Anderson & R. M. May J. Animal Ecology 1978.
1. an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment. 2. a person who receives support, advantage, or the like, from another or others without giving any useful or proper return, as one who lives on the hospitality of others. 3. (in ancient Greece) a person who received free meals in return for amusing or impudent conversation, flattering remarks, etc.
I resort to Webster's Third International Dictionary for what must be a generally accepted definition: a parasite is an organism living in or on another living organism, obtaining from it part or all of its organic nutriment, commonly exhibiting some degree of adaptive structural modification, and causing some degree of real damage to its host. P.W. Price - Evolutionary Biology of Parasites. Princeton Univ. Press. 1980
