ave you ever dreamed of escaping to an exotic deserted island? Nothing surrounding you but private beaches and crystal blue waters stretched out as far as the eye can see?
The Little Palm Island Resort & Spa grants all the pleasures of a secluded island, but none of the spoils. Located just 45 minutes from Key West and 2.5 hours from Miami, one of the most exclusive and award-winning private islands in the world awaits. Guests are swept away in style aboard “The Truman, a custom built boat that carries you to and from your destination, 20 minutes from the mainland. The ultra-private 5-acre island is filled with exquisite surprises. Take, for example, the 30 suites uniquely situated in the well groomed forest canopy. From the exterior they seem to be jungle huts indigenous to any South Pacific or West Indian island, but once inside, they reveal a modern comfort and tropical luxury. The thatched bungalows are studded with sunken Jacuzzi tubs, outdoor showers overlooking the ocean, chandeliers floating from lofted bamboo ceilings, and the most romantic bedrooms around. The only items missing from these suites are telephones, televisions and clocks, allowing your stay to be completely unhindered. Even if you get reception, cell phone use is discouraged and only allowed in the privacy of your suite. Intimate sitting areas with cushioned beach chairs and hammocks are also scattered along the quarter mile path that winds through this paradise, creating ideal places to rest and watch the indigenous Key deer grazing nearby.

A WEEK IN PARADISE
S
tepping off the plane at the picturesque La Romana Airport, the hot, Dominican air leaves an unmistakable first impression: it is island time. Amy and I, wearing custom tee-shirts we had made for the occasion, are ready to party. And golf. And eat. And find adventure. And of course:
to relax under the sun with pina coladas. Whisked away in an air-conditioned van, the excitement builds along the glorious shoreline in the short drive to the world-famous Casa de Campo resort. Our plan is to spend five days and four nights here on an unofficial getaway with my law firm and some clients. Entering the property, we are giddy and a bit overcome at the scope of Casa de Campo: thousands upon thousands of acres of nature, manicured golf courses, pools, fine dining, coves and beaches. Having been to hundreds of hotels around the world, I have never seen anything so impressive in its sheer size. I think to myself the resort must be the size of an entire City in Florida. It’s that impressive.
Every adventure begins at check-in and we are pleasantly surprised when they hand us the keys to – oh yes – a golf cart that will stay with us throughout our trip. Amy gives me that devious look that says: we are going to have fun with this. A bellman in another cart leads us to our cloister of rooms in a beautifully gardened section of the resort. Inside, it resembles a luxury Tahitian Villa with high ceilings, a big luxurious bathroom, lots of wood and a huge shaded patio. It’s perfection! Amy and I are not much for wasting time and soon we are drag racing the golf cart down to Playa Minitas, Casa de Campo’s beautiful sheltered beach, protected from the open ocean by a cove-like breaker. As we try to set a new speed record on the cart path, we check out some of the beautiful villas of the rich and famous who live part-time in Casa de Campo and of course, get our first glimpse of the Links course. I remember playing the Links at Casa de Campo in Microsoft Golf when I was in high school, twenty years ago. Seeing it in person is just: wow! The long fairways in the tropical sun are beckoning, but we are on a beach mission. We follow the signs to Playa Minitas, wondering where the other roads might lead. Soon we are enjoying the hot tropical sunshine and playing Travel Scrabble on the beach, while quite possibly the most delicious pina coladas on Earth are served to us in comfortable chaise lounges. We decide to try our hand at kayaking. We wade out into the perfectly cool, deep blue water and jump aboard, paddling out along the rocky outcropping of the cove. It is magnificent! In deep, clear water its time for a swim and Amy is the first to jump out while I man the ship. Surely, we think, we are the first people to go out so far and swim in the sea. It is a tropical dream come true.

alk to any yacht owner and they will invariably tell you that the happiest days of a boat owners life are they day they buy it and the day they sell it, this of course is just a saying owning a yacht is always a good idea. But that being said the number one regret of most boat owners is that they don’t have the time to fully enjoy an
asset that requires maintenance and crew all the time, even when not being used by the owner.

Today the voyages, and the amenities are much more customized.” New standards include Top Chefs, custom menu and wine selections and of course: boat toys. Rapid communication means shorter voyages are possible, with itineraries tailored to the needs of the client. Most yachts now come with a full crew, luxury chef and toys ranging from water slides to tenders, jet skis, jet packs and even helicopters. Menus, excursions and equipment are customizable for the needs of the client. Whether you want to share Chateau Petrus with close friends, explore the Caribbean with your kids, or throw a birthday party to remember: modern yacht rentals can be customized to the exacting needs of even the most
