LINCOLN ROAD
When one thinks of shopping in South Beach, Lincoln Road is the first thing to come to mind. With some of the world’s largest retailers such as H&M, Lacoste and Zara, it is a one stop shop for most. But little do the locals know, Lincoln Road was built back in the 1050’s by the famous architect Martin Lapidus, also behind the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc Hotel designs. Today when strolling down the outdoor shopping center you can find the Regal Cinemas South Beach, 18 state of the art Cinema, anchoring the corner of Lincoln and Alton, and a number of dining hot spots, such as Doraku Sushi and Chotto Matte. Food, shopping, art, movies, Lincoln Road has it all and makes for the perfect post beach spot for happy hour. LI N CO L N ROA D MA L L .CO M

SEA MIAMI
Life in South Beach, Miami, revolves around the water. With Biscayne Bay on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east, there is not one place in South Beach where you will be more than a mile from a large body of water. This means it is not uncommon to see a group out jet skiing on a Wednesday for lunch, a large mega yacht cruise through Biscayne, or a gorgeous Azimut pull up to a waterfront restaurant off Miami River. Boats, just like people, come in all shapes and sizes and are arguably the best way to experience Miami, wether it is to take a weekend trip to Bimini, cruise around Key Biscayne or take a sunset cruise. And contrary to what one might think, you don’t have to be a boat owner to enjoy the benefits of having a boat. Many visitors choose to charter yachts for the day, a weekend, a week, etc. Chartering is a very desired option for many reasons, one of them is being able to see Miami with a professional captain, who has extensive area knowledge to guide you and your friends to the best spots for water adventures and fine dining. Imagine cruising through Miami on a gorgeous 55 foot Azimut, included with 3 staterooms, a full gally, stove and all the amenities of a luxury hotel! With a day filled of open ocean exploration, snorkeling, cruising by Star and Palm Island and sipping on a delicious cocktail with your favorite tunes playing on board, it’s easy to see why chartering is a popular choice amongst Miami visitors. For a list of local charters visit our website.

THE REAL DEAL
DAS MODEL MANAGEMENT Rasheed Alli, the 31 year-old former Ford agency model and tech entrepreneur from Columbia, Missouri, is pioneering a new industry standard for the international talent management business since opening the doors of DAS Model Management based in Miami Beach. In less than 20 months, his burgeoning independent agency has not only attracted some of the world’s most acclaimed names from today’s fashion world, but has become a fierce and competitive powerhouse, forcing the more established global agencies to take notice and rethink their game. Rasheed’s formula for the company’s rapid road to success? Bringing equally talented individuals from the industry within the agency’s four walls with the same progressive mindset, complementing his own belief in a more personalized talent development ethos. After witnessing the modeling industry’s tainted reputation with mismanagement and blatant disregard for the overall welfare of models, Rasheed and his team have been turning a new leaf and implementing a corporate family-style structured framework that the agency’s growing stable of passionate models and loyal blue-chip clients have become fond of.
With an inherent focus on the personal and professional development of each individual image and reputation, DAS complements a client’s campaign with specific talent in the agency’s model portfolio of emerging and established names. This boutique ideology has created a more personable culture within DAS’ management business that has forged a lasting bond between the agency’s roster of models and its national and international client base. Rasheed dedicated himself towards building a world-class executive team with more than 75 years of combined experience in the fashion industry. At the helm of the agency’s day-to-day operations is Paolo Buonfante, one of the industry’s most respected set of eyes for recruiting lasting modeling talent and someone who has developed the likes of Kate Upton, Christine Teigen and Nina Agdal, among numerous others, during his esteemed 30-year career. Rasheed shares his thoughts on the past, present and future of the industry and his own successes as arguably the youngest trailblazer in the talent management arena. What do you think sets DAS Model Management apart from other agencies? There has been a long history of talent mismanagement in the industry – especially among new models who are starting out. Many girls are recruited and are not given the personal guidance or mentoring towards beginning their career on the right foot. This can lead to a model becoming despondent and rarely being booked. At DAS, we only recruit talent we know have a promising future as a working model. Our highly experienced team is very hands-on and grooms each individual towards reaching his or her full potential. We never charge for initial testing shots and give our models creative freedom to adopt their own personality in front of the camera. Paolo, our head of talent management, is one of the most experienced in the industry and is entirely hands-on with developing the models he personally recruits. Very rarely will you see someone so senior being so responsive and nurturing with every model on a day-to-day basis. A personal and attentive management style is our core philosophy. Tell us what the future holds for DAS Model Management? Growth in the modeling business for a young agency like DAS is a marathon not a sprint. Just like our new and emerging models, we have to grow and build a reputation within the industry in order to become established. This takes time. We aim to generate as much exposure as possible for the great work we do and convey our core philosophy in the right way so we can build trust and a solid history of competency in order to improve the culture, raise the standard and meet the needs of the industry that are currently not being met. One of South Beach’s newest crazes is David Grutmans vegan restaurant, Planta, located South of Fifth. With local foodies and visiting celebrities, it has had its fair share of amazing reviews and paparazzi. Not only is the restaurant completely vegan, but a large amount of their fresh ingredients come straight from their rooftop garden, taking locally grown to a whole new level. Pizza, chocolate desert, burgers, they have it all and you would never know it was vegan! And the space is just as inviting as the menu, with tropical interior decor, comfy seating and the perfect food selfie lighting in every corner, its no wonder Planta was a hit from the start. 850 Commerce St., Miami Beach; 305-397-8513; plantarestaurants.com

MODEL TO CEO: KAT QUINN
When walking into The Kat Agency, Fort Lauderdale office, you are first greeted by their cat, Meow Meow, and then several of their employees busily working at the office desktops. In the furthest office room is Kat and her husband/business partner, Jordan, answering phone calls, texts and endless emails. Kat Quinn, CEO and founder, is dressed to perfection, as always, her blonde locks laying perfectly over her shoulders and the most bright, white smile. With her full time staff of employees and a packed calendar you would think she has been running her agency forever. When in fact Quinn only just founded The Kat Agency 6 years ago, in 2012, with her husband Jordan Tomback. Quinn has always had a passion for being in the fashion industry, as she studied at Santa Reparata International School of Art, in Florence Italy and from there she went to the University of Miami where she received her BA in communication, fashion studies and studio art. Her love for fashion and all things industry related are what fueled her to start modeling full time and become an Imdb certified wardrobe stylist. In 2004 Quinn began her modeling career, working for brands such as, Google, Bacardi, Hyatt Hotels and many more. After years of working as a model Quinn wanted to capitalize on her personal experience in the modeling industry and fix the problems that were so commonly seen in modeling agencies.
She wanted to be hands on with all of her talent, to provide proper training, offer wardrobe styling for clients, create a software that allowed talent and clients to easily book jobs and create a space that would allow talent to virtually work for themselves, but through a platform provided by the agency. “Experiential marketing is a $350 Billion Industry and it’s such a new way of marketing that not a lot of brands are sure how to utilize it. At almost every event we work, companies come up to me and ask how we do what we do and how to hire us, said Quinn.” In a nutshell, Quinn created an agency that is an all in one, and the industry loves it. In more simple terms, The Kat Agency is an experiential marketing and talent agency. With talent in 265+ cities, providing 1,000+ bookings per year and representing high-end clientele such as JetSmarter, Isaiah, Sunseeker, and the Standard Hotel, to name a few. They staff talent for events, promotional models, makeup artists, athletes, and more. The agency is evolving in the marketplace, as a whole, from how a client finds talent, and how talent are presented to clients. And their newest endeavor is The Kat Agency app. “To date, we have grown strictly with word of mouth. When things really ramped up, we began creating our own technology to manage the many moving parts,” said Quinn. The Kat Agency has an in-house CTO, Sean Cosentino, who built a platform that allows for an easy and simple booking process, one that is revolutionary to the industry. The Kat Agency has turned their website from manual to a fully automated system. From a full time model, to a female CEO, Quinn has taken the industry by storm and made sure to keep her values a priority at every turn. Not only is she a prominent female figure in the industry, but she has recently begun to reach out to the community and get more involved in helping other, young entrepreneurs. “I want to be someone that young entrepreneurs can look up to and seek advice from, I love helping people, and I feel that I’ve learned so much these past few years owning my own business, and I want to share that knowledge,” said Quinn. As The Kat Agency slogan implies, their goal is to always “Lead by Example. Visit: www.thekatagency.com

NO. 3 SOCIAL
By Aroon Duncanson
I
t is no secret that Miami is home to some of the best restaurants and bars in the country. And quite a few of these hidden gems can be found in the Wynwood area, also known as an artists wonderland. In October of 2017, Wynwood had its very first rooftop bar and lounge debut, No.3 Social. With a gorgeous, rooftop view of Biscayne and its eclectic design, No. 3 Social serves as the perfect stop for
those wandering the art filled walls of Wynwood.
Not only does the wide arrange of delicious, unique cocktails and boozy popsicles draw in a crowd, but the weekly entertainment itself is worth stopping in. No. 3 Social lounge offers a number of different entertainments, such as Strictly Vinyl on Thursday, Funk-it-Friday’s, Straight Up & Dirty on Sundays and plenty of other performances during the weekend. Below the bar and lounge is Three restaurant, both helmed by legendary Florida Chef Norman Van Aken and hospitality partners Susan Buckley and Candace Walsh; where they serve fresh ceviche, straight from the crystal waters of Key West or a plate of Shorty’s Nachos, loaded with delicious cheese and toppings. No. 3 Social is truly a place that embodies Wynwood’s artistic culture, while offering specialty cocktails and delicious meals. LIVIN’ THE RIGHT WAY Local Miami model, Aroon Duncanson, and world renowned artist, Megan Duncanson, have started their own empowering fashion label based in Miami, Florida. The mother, daughter duo launched a designer purse line in January 2018 focused on providing empowering designs to women around the world. Their brand, Livin’ The MAD Life, is completely vegan and cruelty free, made from synthetic materials and faux leather. They also have a hand painted, original line, where they repurpose bags and purses and create a new original artwork, using fashion acrylic paints. The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, only behind the oil industry, and the mother, daughter duo are doing their part to eliminate fast fashion, and give purses a second life. Livin’ The MAD Life is also a large advocacy for women’s rights and female empowerment. Megan Duncanson, mother and designer, has a past history involving domestic violence, which inspired her to create her own symbols, and artwork, that inspire and bring happiness into those lives it touches. Megan and Aroon frequently volunteer with a local nonprofit that helps women involved with human trafficking and domestic violence. Livin’ TheMAD Life also donates 20% of all profits to a local non profit charity focused on helping local women. Their brand is currently online sale only, but they plan to expand and spread their message as the years go on. Check out this amazing mother, daughter duo, doing their part to help the environment, animals and women all over the world. www.LivinTheMADLife.com | @LivinTheMADLife | info@livinthemadlife.com

THE MAHINA LIFE
L
iving in Miami we are constantly seeking and finding new swimsuit brands. But one that has stood out to us, is Mahina Bikinis, owned and designed by Marissa Lew. This Miami based swimwear company has been seen on Vanity Fair UK, British GQ and Jetty Girl Surf Magazine. The brand is about creating swimsuits for every shape and size, something that can be hard for some. So we took a moment to ask Marissa about her company and here is what she had to say:
Do you find it hard to make styles that fit every body type? I know what it’s like to have curves and I know the areas that accentuate and what is unflattering so from personal experience i’d like to say it’s easy but not everyone has the same body! Sometimes it can be a challenge to get it right for all body types but luckily I have more than one swimsuit so if one style doesn’t fit your type another one will. What's your favorite swimsuit to date? Ah, this is a hard question! I’d have to say I am in between the “Jess” top and the “Dylan” top along with the “Emily” high waisted bottoms and our “Lauren” bottoms that are super small and cheeky - I guess I have a favorite depending on the day!? What makes you different from other swim brands? What sets Mahina Bikinis apart from other swimwear brands is that my main focus is on creating bikinis that run true to size without lacking in style. On a personal level I have had many issues in the past spending big bucks on bikinis only to have them not fit correctly. I also had friends from models to bigger girls who were having similar issues with sizing. Therefore, when I created Mahina I set out to make sure that bikinis ran true to size, no matter what size you are! Has Miami proven to be the best place for your company? I think that Miami is an amazing place to start and run a bikini company. I mean, it’s hot and sunny here year round so bikinis are a year round necessity. What's your favorite thing about Mahina Bikinis? My favorite thing about my brand is being able to make bikinis that make girls feel and look good in. Seeing it all come to life from my sketchpad to the customer is definitely very rewarding. What does Mahina mean? Mahina means moon in Hawaiian Marissa is currently working on adding new and updated prints and colors to her latest collection. To keep up to date with Mahina Bikinis and their upcoming events you can follow them on Instagram @Mahina.Bikinis
