In fact, many of AquaVita Swim pieces recently made their way across the catwalk at the International Swim Fashion Week in Curaçao at the Papagayo Beach Club in March. During the event, AquaVita displayed their timeless looks in trendy, bright colors from their 2016 resort line. The resort wear line included flowing skirts, tops, and dresses in the colors inspired by the beach; each designed to make women look spectacular in any setting. Swimwear and resort wear were styled with anklets, high-heeled sandals, statement necklaces, and straw tote bags. Instead of Brazilian bottoms and barely-there strings, AquaVita designed their pieces for women who like to look beach-fabulous without revealing too much. Their one-piece designs feature figure-flattering wraps and straps to keep everything in place. Their tankinis are carefully cut to expose just the right amount of skin, while flattering the bust and

D E S I G N E R LILIANA MONTOYA Redefines the Bikini

C

written by // Tara Kelly

olombian designer Liliana Montoya took the swimwear world to a whole new level in 2006 when she introduced her Montoya Swimwear line. The influence of Latin American fashion and culture is pervasive through the entire collection. Her feminine, upscale swimwear showcases the beauty of today’s modern woman. Montoya’s ultra-sexy bikinis and trikinis feature luxurious details in shape, texture, and color, and her fabulous prints are adorned with sequined borders, stones and Swarovski crystals.

Each suit is completed with the signature Montoya Gold Heart. Montoya’s interest in fashion dates back to childhood when she spent time watching fashion TV and runway shows, and developed a desire to one day live in that world. As she was finishing fashion design school, she created a beachwear line for her final thesis and knew immediately it would become her ultimate passion. Montoya shares, “I love sewing and have passion for every single piece I create either by hand or by just trimming and adding textures and colors.” Each day she looks forward to letting her senses flow with creativity and exploring new ideas and concepts. She finds inspiration in daily life, a trip, “a magical and fantastic day at the beach” and her ‘Mermaids’ (the models of the Montoya Campaigns) and the magic of their beauty. Her latest collection draws inspiration from the ocean – the colors, coral, fish, seaweed, landscapes and scale patterns. The result breathes life into women, making them feel sexy and beautiful.

Montoya credits the support of her “team” as her driving force, stating, “I cannot do it without them. I have the inspiration and the desire to create but without the friends and family that support me, I couldn’t do it. My ‘mermaids’ are a daily motivation to become a better and stronger designer.” Her greatest desire is for Montoya Swimwear to emerge as a serious player and successful brand amongst the swimwear competition, set apart by her unique style. Look for Montoya Swimwear in boutiques across Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Jamaica, Bermuda, Miami, Los Angeles, New York and, coming soon, Athens. You can also shop at your leisure on the Liliana Montoya website (www.lilianamontoya.com) which ships worldwide.
