March 2011 Dear Friends of Concord Academy, We are very excited about this year’s Benefit for Financial Aid on Saturday, April 2. The event has already received tremendous support from the CA community and area businesses through dozens of one-of-a-kind donations, direct financial contributions, and the time and talent of a small army of volunteers. We hope that you’ll be able to join us and the many other CA supporters for a fun and memorable evening that will include a cocktail hour, silent auction, raffle, dinner, live auction, and entertainment by our own CA students. We hope you enjoy previewing the items on the following pages. You can use this book to choose the items that interest you and then plan your bids accordingly. If you’d like to attend and have not replied yet, please RSVP, either by responding to your email invitation or by email to carol_antos@concordacademy.org. Italian Wine Tasting Kit Attack of the Killer B's Barolo, Barbaresco, and Brunello. This three pack "Collector Kit" in a decorative wooden box, consists of one bottle each of 2006 Macarini, Barolo "Bricco Boschis," 2006 Produttori, Barbaresco "Torre," and 2005 Argiano, Brunello di Montalcino. Together they represent the most collected pure-varietal wines of Italy, competing with the Grand Crus of Burgundy as well as the cult favorites of California. These are Italy's greatest red wines, capable of aging over decades, attracting loads of attention, and providing aromas not found elsewhere in the world. They are among the most collectible wines of not just Italy but of wine connoisseurs everywhere. This tasting is designed to provide individual wines that exemplify their respective categories so that you can educate yourself on the key characteristics of each. Three Spanish Vive Espana! In Spain, winemakers often use the Spanish word elaborar (to elaborate) rather than fabricar (to produce/make) when describing the Spanish winemaking philosophy. This relates to the view that the winemaker acts as more of a nurturer of the grapes and wine rather than as a producer. Enjoy these two bottles of Las Rocas, 2003 Garnacha Vinas Viejas de San Alejandro, grown from the grand old vines of garnacha in the rocky mountains of Aragon. Then compare with a bottle of 2006 Spanish Palacios Petalos del Bierzo, whose vintner, Alvaro Palacios, has been named by Wine and Spirits to be one of the most influential winemakers in the world. Host your Own "Transcendentalist Salon" Host Your Own Salon In the 1800s Margaret Fuller, a feminine counterpart (or at least contemporary) to Thoreau, attempted to bring women more fully into the life of Transcendentalism. 911L. Four Red Sox vs. Yankees Tickets on Opening Day What is the World's Ultimate Rivalry? Greeks vs. Romans? Old news. Christians vs. Lions? Too messy. Kennedy vs. Kruschev? Too political. It's our beloved Boston Red Sox vs. those Yankees from NY! What better way to celebrate the dawn of a new season of hope and opportunity than by watching our Sox trounce the Yanks on Opening Day? Four tickets for April 6 at 2:05 p.m. can be yours in the State Street Pavilion which features not only some of the finest and most comfortable sight lines at Fenway Park, but also access to the club lounge and dining area, two full bars, in-seat food and beverage services and flat screen TVs located throughout the Pavilion so you never miss a pitch. These tickets were chosen by the Red Sox head office especially for the CA Parents Benefit for Financial Aid and are never available to the general public. This is truly a chance of a lifetime! Let Wikipedia remind you that "Since the inception of the wild card team and an added Division Series, these American League East rivals have squared off in the American League Championship Series three times, with the Red Sox winning in 2004. In addition, the teams have twice met in the last regular season series of a season to decide the league title, in 1904 (when the Red Sox won) and in 1949...The teams also finished tied for first in 1978, when the Yankees won a high-profile one-game playoff for the division title. The 1978 division race is memorable for the Red Sox having held a 14-game lead over the Yankees more than halfway through the season. Similarly, the 2004 American League Championship Series is notable for the Yankees leading 3 games to 0 and ultimately losing a best of seven series. The Red Sox comeback was the only time in baseball history that a team has come back from an 0-3 deficit to win a series." But, then again, the citizens of Red Sox Nation know that miracles can happen. Donor: Boston Red Sox Priceless

Silent Auction Rules
The Silent Auction will open for bidding at 6:00 p.m. and will close by 7:15 p.m.
A bid sheet for each silent auction item will specify the minimum starting bid.
To place a bid, record your assigned bidder number and the bid amount on the next available blank line on the bid sheet.
When the Silent Auction closes, the highest bidder will win the item. A bidder in the process of submitting a bid at the time of the silent auction closing may complete the bid. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the silent auction supervisor exercises final discretion with respect to the winning bidder.
NOTE: All items are categorized and presented at the discretion of the auction committee in order to maximize contributions to the financial aid program at Concord Academy.
Live Auction Rules
The Live Auction will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m. and will continue until all items have been auctioned.
Guests may view the items from 6:00 p.m. until the start of the Live Auction bidding.
To enter a bid, the bidder must raise his or her bidder number and be acknowledged by the auctioneer. This must be repeated for each increase in the bid.
Each bid legally obligates the bidder to pay his or her bid price in full at the end of the evening, if such bid is deemed the high bid.
The Live Auction will be fast-paced so bids must be made quickly!
If the auctioneer determines that an opening bid, or any subsequent bid, is not commensurate with the value of the item offered, he might reject the bid and withdraw the item from sale. If, having acknowledged an opening bid, the auctioneer decides that an advance thereafter is not sufficient, s/he may reject the advance.
The auctioneer retains the right to add or delete any item from sale, make verbal corrections, and provide additional data with respect to each auction item.
The auctioneer reserves the right to announce conditions of a sale at any time during the bidding.
In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer will have the sole and final decision to either determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the article in dispute.
