HOW DO WE FUEL THE MISSION? CA’s worthy mission and renowned program have been sustained over nine decades by contributions from many alumnae/i, parents, grandparents, and friends of the school. ca has always been an institution that deploys its resources very carefully—this core value

CA’S ENDOWMENT in 1954, a small group of forward-looking benefactors planted the seeds for an endowment designed to ensure CA’s future. Since then, hundreds of individual donors have chosen to contribute funds to be invested for the long term. Some of these funds are designated for very specific purposes, such as financial aid or core curricular activities. Every year, CA relies on income generated by endowed funds to support our people, programs, and living and learning spaces. In the 2016 –2017 school year, the endowment funded 12 percent of the school’s operating budget.

Your gift to the endowment ensures that CA is “ able to carry out its mission of educating students, attracting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff, and providing the environment to do it in.”

1947

A 25th-anniversary drive is held with a goal of raising $25,000. Gifts will raise teachers’ salaries and swell the scholarship fund.

1954

A family anonymously contributes $50,000 to start the endowment and also help to pay to complete the construction of the Middle School.

1955

Elizabeth B. Hall purchases the Chapel for the school with her own funds. A small group of faculty and students then brings the building from New Hampshire to Concord.

of tomorrow.

1958

A deCAde campaign launches with a goal of $1.5 million to be raised over 10 years. In three phases, the campaign will support a new dining hall and infirmary, a renovation of residential houses, and a new science and art building. The school hosts a day-long session on December 16, 1958, referred to as D Day, to explain the campaign and its three phases.

1966 1977 1984 A new campaign, Steps for Quality, is announced, to raise $1.25 million by the end of the 1966–1967 school year.

The StudentFaculty Center, or Stu-Fac, as it is now called, is completed.

A Campaign for Concord Academy launches with a goal of raising $4 million over three years. Three-fourths of this revenue will go straight toward endowment, and the rest will fund the construction of a space for a library, new athletic fields, and handicap accessibility. Trustees contribute $1 million to launch the campaign. That same month, the Elizabeth B. Hall Chapel is dedicated.

1987

The J. Josephine Tucker Library is completed in the upstairs of the Middle School, a space student leaders deemed an eligible solution in 1982 at a retreat on Squam Lake.

1992 1996 The Math and Arts Center (MAC) is completed, thanks to the first $1 million gift to the school, received in 1991.

The school celebrates its 75th anniversary, as the Financial Aid Fund exceeds $1 million.

2016 2017 ANNUAL FUND The CA Annual Fund is a pillar of the school’s revenue.

this resource is both critical—in enabling the school to immediately deliver on its core programs with the kind of flexibility for which CA is known—and limited. It must be replenished every year in order to sustain core programs and fulfill the school’s mission. The 2016 – 2017 academic year was made possible by 1,978 donors who stepped forward to deliver $2,756,567. These dollars helped fill the gap not covered by tuition or endowment income.

The Annual Fund supports each person and every program at Concord Academy. In 2016–2017 CA parents, graduates, students, faculty, staff, and friends joined together to contribute $2,756,567—just think, it would take $55 million of endowment to generate that amount in a single year. These gifts are mighty and at the core of the CA experience. 11

the campaign prioritizes programmatic needs, inspires curriculum, develops strong learning partnerships, and nurtures creativity. We owe it to our students now and our students into the future to be the very best school that we can be. That’s where the Centennial Plan comes from. As teaching and learning have evolved over the years, so too must CA’s campus and program. create + innovate: The Centennial Campaign for Concord Academy has been a philanthropic investment in a set of strategic, coordinated initiatives that range from physical adaptations of current buildings and landscape improvements to curricular innovations and expanded experiential learning. As we are doing with all projects, “ this is an endowed project that won’t raise tuition or otherwise impact the finances of the daily operations of the school.

For me, CA meant enormous growth in my personality, knowledge, and abilities. I was granted generous aid, and walking onto our beautiful campus each morning I was enormously grateful for it. The person I was before CA would be overjoyed by the person I’ve grown into, and for that I can only thank the incredible generosity, acceptance, and passion of this community.” Mary Craig ’17 Student Head of School 2016–2017

Our student houses are as valuable as learning tools as they are as living spaces, and they feature prominently in our plan to expand the opportunities for learning outside the classroom.

In support of global competencies, the school will bring more of the world to Concord and also increasingly get more CA students out into the world beyond our campus.

Advancing Faculty Leadership By providing faculty with the necessary resources and time, our ambition is for more exploration and multidisciplinary collaboration that will unleash the greater talents of our community.

THANK YOU Generosity has always been an animating spirit of CA.

whether it’s through the time advisors spend with their advisees, the time our alumnae/i and parents spend volunteering, or the gesture of listening, truly listening, to one another in the Chapel, our community is blessed by generosity. You will find a testament to that in these pages. For some of you, spread as you are around the world, your gifts and resources expand and impact the experience we have every day here at CA. We feel it. We are grateful for it. Before we list names, we want to convey a simply message: Thank you.
